I would love to see you do “what to wear in the field” video. :) I would love to get some inspiration as to what gear/clothes you like to wear out in the field. I love hiking and outdoor clothing but I’m at a loss as to where that type of clothing meets “professional” job attire.

8:36 - This part makes me very thankful that the University i'm attending in September has a built-in 'Year In Industry'. They find me a work placement in an area I like (Hopefully Freshwater Ecology) and i'm there for around 9 - 12 months. Should give me an idea of what I like and don't like!

Hello Kristina, I’m a junior in high school, and I day-dream of being a wildlife biologist. I appreciate that you share more info with us; now I kind of that understand more what a biologist do. I understand that being a biologist isn’t a perfect career and that it is really tiring sometimes, but that’s what I want to do… thank you for inspiring me! and I wish you a great time while working and resting!

Maybe a bit of a weird question, but is environmental science/ wildlife biology a good career for someone who wants to make art on the side? How tight is your schedule, and would you have time to work on art outside of your job?

@@kristina_lynn I am currently obtaining a bachelors in biological sciences online through ASU. I am not able to get a more specialized degree because my husband and I are moving a lot in the next few years for his job and online is my only option. I was wondering what I should do to make myself more appealing for this line of work. I plan on getting my masters of fish, wildlife, and conservation biology through Colorado State as well as paying for an abroad program later on. I'm justing looking for ANY tips you can give me. I'm very dedicated to this field in general whether it's being a wildlife biologist or a wildlife conservationist.

The masters program sounds super useful! In the meantime I would look for any opportunities (paid or unpaid) in your area to work at. That could be with a parks department, wildlife sanctuary, zoo etc. Just to start building your resume. since you want to go to grad school the more research focused the better. Start thinking about your grad school application references and building relationships with teachers or bosses. Hope that helps!

Here’s a question , my goal is to be a professor and /or do research in the field. I want to get a tattoo on my arm for my dog that passed away , it’s a flower that is her name . Jade . It won’t huge or anything but I was wondering if this would affect me negatively
@kristina_lynn
@kristina_lynn 5 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. I've seen accomplished profs with tattoos, piercings. Depends on where you work though, I've only worked on the west coast of North America where you could get away with a full sleeve, more conservative countries may be a different story. I would just do it honestly, that sounds like a very sweet and meaningful tattoo.

So where did you find your Bolivian internship and what costs were involved?
@kristina_lynn
@kristina_lynn 5 жыл бұрын
Here is the organization I worked with: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comunidad_Inti_Wara_Yassi I worked there in 2012 and at that time the fees were $500 USD a month and that money went directly to your housing, all meals, and water costs. You would have to get yourself there, I paid about $600 round trip for flights to Colombia and spent awhile backpacking my way south before I arrived. I highly recommend if you’re not afraid of bugs and hard work and want a true amazon field station experience 🌴 also they’re almost always desperate for workers as they have more animals coming in every day.

What do you think of the vegans who say that people shouldn’t own cats because they eat meat? I find this so ironic, that it’s not ok to have speciesism between animals we eat and don’t eat, yet it’s fine to suddenly abandon all the cats because they eat meat
@kristina_lynn
@kristina_lynn 5 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question and a pretty hot debate in the vegan world. I think some people are extremely uncomfortable buying meat for cat food so they don’t get cats which is fair. Abandoning the cats breaks my heart though. Meat is their natural diet and I couldn’t personally justify feeding my cat vegan cat food or ever abandoning Tiger, nope no way. But I don’t get too into the debate since I don’t want to focus on attacking other vegans when there’s so many changes to be made outside of the vegan world.
