The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

Amazing trip, WOW, 4dayer is probably pricey but worth it, thx for sharing, new scriber here, heading down from Idaho to hopefully get on the Bite, grew up fishing those waters, alot of toad tuna, vagabond is the boat? 👍🎣. Nothing better then the HOOK UP.
@artemisadventures17342 жыл бұрын
If I were coming from Idaho, I’d do a longer trip if you can. The odds of getting into the fish are better. If you do a one day trip, there’s a chance that that one day can Bo an off day or bad weather. Just a thought. Better book ahead. The good boats fill before the season even starts

@@artemisadventures1734 thank you, I'll be down for a long while, I've got family down there, I'll get on a few boats for the hit or miss, I'm moving to Texas after the trip, maybe I'll see you out there!! Tight lines 👍

Love seeing you using the Shimano talica reels. I have the talica 50 2 speed, 2 talica 16 2 speed, 1 talica 25 2 speed, and 1 talica 12 2 speed. They are some of smoothest reels I have used.

I have a 3 day trip booked for may of next year. May I ask what are your setups for rod and reel pairings?
@artemisadventures17342 жыл бұрын
Hard to say what will be biting that far out but I almost always bring a 30, 40, and 80 lb setups. I like two speed for all these line weights. I like the penn fathoms and graftech rods for entry level gear (still pricey though) and penn torques with Calstar or United composite rods for better stuff. Honestly, there’s a lot of good gear out there now. And I vote for white braid so you can see it.
@tamalpias2 жыл бұрын
@@artemisadventures1734 thanks for your response. I am thinking of making a trip down south to hit up a couple tackle shops to buy gear. My local tackle stores up in the SF Bay Area mainly have salmon and bass gear.

Which color do you love???
@artemisadventures173411 ай бұрын
I’m guessing that you’re talking about the knife jigs? If so I honestly think it doesn’t matter. What does matter is being at the right depth at the right time. So, mark your line to know your depth. With that said, if I had to pick a color, I like the silver ones with fat stripes of glow in the dark bands.

Awesome video! What’s the custom handle on your talica 20?
@artemisadventures1734 Жыл бұрын
Dude, I don’t know. I picked it up from Squidco in San Diego. I was fine with the original handle but it corroded through and broke. I think the talicas have an issue with that. I’ve seen a bunch of corroded handles.

Drop the fish on the floor crack the meat inside the fish ,no bleed and dress the tuna, gonna be poor quality !!

Don’t forget the gaff to the top loin. If it makes it any better, they do get dressed and put into a cold salt brine right away.

Weight was from the processor then add 12% for the blood and guts. I didn’t eyeball this one. I will say that the camera doesn’t do it any justice.

I hate when they slam these fish down on the deck. Especially when they dont walk the fish down to the back deck, less clean up when the bites hot.
@artemisadventures17346 ай бұрын
Yeah, it’s not ideal. I can’t tell a difference in the meat from one side of the fish though. At least I can’t tell…
@AbleHammer2 жыл бұрын
So how much of the meat do you get to keep on these tuna runs? It’s been my experience there’s a percentage involved.
@artemisadventures17342 жыл бұрын
I’ll guess 25% of the fish weight. So, a lot!

Yeah, you’re right on the handle. The stock one corroded so I had to get a new one. This is what Squidco gave me. “Time at the rail”!!
