What to say when you pray for people and they don’t get healed?

I once prayed for a seven year old, who was laying across his mother's lap. The father was an atheist and said "I'll believe in God if my son gets healed". So I prayed for the boy and nothing happened, I prayed a second time, again nothing happened. The parents were grateful and left. I was frustrated and discouraged, I cried out to the Lord; "Lord if only you had healed the boy, his father was an atheist, it would have been a powerful testimony! " About one week later I received an email from the boy's father who said; "I wanted to tell you, that night after we left you, when we returned home, my son seemed to recover, he was eating normally and for the first time slept at night. But I was sceptical, so I waited a couple of days, and it's been one week and my son is still healed!" I started rejoicing. However, the Lord rebuked me and said; "don't ever doubt the integrity of my name and the authority behind my name. You prayed in my name, your work was finished, after that the boy's healing became my responsibility. " Lesson learnt: always have faith in the mighty name of Jesus.

Lion-Heart IV Amen! I prayed to my aunt awhile ago, I said that as I pray the Lord would heal her. I prayed once and nothing happened, I really felt ashamed. Then I prayed again, for the second time. She checked it, It seemed to me that healing didn't come to her. So I just said " It will just heal". It almost took me 1hr to have a guts asking her if I could pray for her, and now I was asking in my mind why didn't she get healed. But I know God would heal her and I just pray she would recognize that it was the power of Jesus.

March 1st, 2018, I prayed for 2 different women in Walmart. Walking out, I had a MASSIVE HEART ATTACK! God told me, "Do NOT be afraid, it is not your time". After 33 hrs of surgery, EVERY Dr. And Nurse from the O.R. told me, " You are a MIRACLE! We did NOT expect you to survive!" One Dr. said, "I've NEVER SEEN ANYTHING like it! On a scale of 1 to 10, you had a TEEEEEEN!!!" I don't know if either of those women got healed, but I sure DID! I've wondered if I hadn't been calling on the Holy Spirit, would I have been, being that it was SO Severe? Probably so, since God said it wasn't my time. I NEVER ONCE felt ANY fear, and the Holy Spirit moved incredibly during the 5 weeks in the Hospital! I shared Christ with everyone I could, and the Drs. we're Amazed, every time they checked on my progress. Our God is an AMAZING GOD!!!!!!!

I prayed for one of my friends who hurt his knee and was having a hard time walking. He's a Muslim and I asked if I could pray for him. He let me and I laid hands on him and prayed. He walked and seemed better so I prayed for him a second time, but seemingly nothing more happened. I told him that sometimes it's not instant and that it could take a day for him to be healed. My husband, also a Muslim, was very skeptical that he would be healed in Jesus' name. That next week I asked him about his knee and he said the day after I prayed his knee was healed. Be bold, walk by faith and never speak death over miracles you are praying for.

Our experience in Italy: there is an old lady on the wheelchair and her daughter pushing it. We stop them. The daughter is very skeptical and almost laughing at us while saying:" there, pray for my wrist. I am in pain and your prayers won't work. I am going to show you just how deluded you are". So I pray 1,2,3,4 times and nothing happens while she looks at me with a kind of "I told you" look in her eyes. Meanwhile, her mother gets healed from her pain in the knees by another brother and starts praising god! After two minutes the daughter comes back to me with a totally different face and humbly asks: "would you please pray again?". Just one prayer and she gets healed immediately and completely. What I want to say is that sometimes people who have a very close/mocking attitude won't get healed but still god is working in their heart. And it's easier for us if we know that; but let's have no prejudice in approaching people. We never know what's in their heart and how God will touch them!

You couldn't have said it any better. We all need to cease every opportunity to pray for people. Prayers always make an impact no matter how insignificant it seems. Some people might need to be prayed for couples of times before their healing hence you praying for them once or twice helps even when u didn't see immediate impact. Keep it up.

Oh, I can answer that. You get that way, like the girl, when you've been disapointed so many times by prayers not working. I'm there now but I would always show appretiation anyway. People have prayed, prayed and prayed and put their hands on me for healing and..nothing.

April 2014 when I was staying in Arizona with some friends, You and Don prayed for me in Phoenix, AZ when I met up with you to go out on the street. I had a paralyzed vocal chord and had not been able to speak for 3 months. It seemed that nothing happened that day, but the next morning I woke up and my voice had come back. I called Don on the phone and told y'all what happened. I don't know why God worked overnight like that instead of instantly, but He did work. That’s a good word . My friend Jarret got prayed for his flat feet . The person that prayed for him was their first time praying , nothing happened right then. Over the next 3 days he got arches on his feet , but never see the girl again that prayed for him , she doesn’t even know unless God revealed it her.

I was in Costco today and this man was waiting in line next to me with his hands on his head and it seemed like he had a bad migraine and I wanted to pray for him SOOOO badly but I was afraid because I didn’t know if he would get healed!!! Thank you Torben. Yes this video has helped me. The last year I've had tooth decay along the gum line of one of my lower molars. It had gotten so bad that a large hole has appeared, and I regular clean out food scraps lodged in it with a wooden toothpick to avoid any pain and further tooth decay. As I'm currently unemployed partly due to the pandemic, I was too afraid to visit the dentist because dentists are extremely expensive in Australia. I was concerned a dentist visit may cost at least $500 plus, maybe $1,000 or more to repair the tooth, Or it may have to be removed, leaving a gap (I already lost an upper molar last year which fell apart when an old filling fell out). Even though I regularly clean and floss my teeth! In recent weeks pain would come and go. I love cheese, and if I ate my favourite light cheese the acids from the cheese would cause pain. I prayed for pain to go but in a weak way. I even spoke to my older brother (23 years older) who has been a Christian as long as I can remember, and asked him to pray for healing over the phone a week or so ago. But my brother seems to pray in a weak way.... you know, "IF it's your will God heal David's tooth". Not from a position of authority at all. A bit wishy washy. Anyway a few days ago the pain came back very strong. It was throbbing and was almost unbearable. I was considering calling a dentist the next day. I accidentally bit on a corn chip I was eating on that decayed molar and the sharp pain was excruciating! I was watching some more KZbin videos Of Pete Cabrera Jr. in Kingdom Carnival praying (maybe one of yours too Torben). Then I watched some videos of a young pastor praying for tooth healing when I realised that I have AUTHORITY from God to COMMAND pain to leave and the tooth to regrow in Jesus' name. So this time I PRAYED WITH AUTHORITY. Pain immediately left my tooth!!! The next morning still no pain. I kept praying for the tooth to regrow as this young pastor said even if the healing isn't 100% complete, God is working on it and taking His time. So realise it's happening. That was a few days ago and still NO PAIN. While I'm typing this I'm eating my cheese and chewing hard corn chips on that molar and still no pain! It's faith and authority that will heal myself and others. I'll keep praying for my tooth to heal, for bone, pulp, enamel, nerves, and gum tissue to heal and regrow. I hope this testimony helps someone who is feeling discouraged in their healing prayers. Remember this Bible verse which is one of my favourites: And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. This is exactly what I want to do ! It's my dream to serve God and share the gospel with people and pray for the sick to get healed in Jesus name . But the problem is that it's forbidden in my country to evangelize and i feel afraid if i prayed for a non believer even secretly and nothing happens that they might mock on the lord and say that he has no authority to heal or to do anything . So i don't know what to do . Although i do put my hands on my non-believer parents and pray for them secretly to get healed but nothing happens but i always hope that a miracle would happen to them so they can believe in the lord and get saved. I have seen people healed sometimes. One time I will never forget. I was on holiday and was asked to pray with a couple for three friends who had cancer. We prayed in their absence . I remember that when we prayed for one of the three we felt God's presence very powerfully. That person was healed i found out a few months later , but the other two died. Since then I have learned never to question of be surprised, God is sovereign and He will do as He will But we should always ask.K

That is so true Torben . My son was around 5 years old, and he was extremely underweight, he didn't have much of an appetite.. One day a man came and asked can I pray for the boy, so I let him, anyway he prayed that my son would get a better appetite and gain weight and be healthy.. Of course we didn't see that happen immediately but over the next few weeks, I had noticed he was eating more,, he started having a good appetite and eventually gained weight.. God is good..

I have seen people healed (and other miracles) instantly and others not (at least immediately). Truth is, even Jesus was unable to heal many in a certain town due to the lack of faith from the people. Don't be discouraged. Thanks for your efforts.

I have a very bad knee. One time at a meeting the pastor asked if there is anyone here with a bad knee. I waited to see if someone was going up there but no one did so i went up. He prayed in Jesus name for healing and i thougt i got healed. But when i tried out my knee later i ended up in crutches. I dont understand, but i know that He is there, and i know that He is good. Jesus is Lord and if i know nothing else i will always know that.

Sometimes God doesn’t want the person to be healed from it at that time or at all. Pray for God’s will in that person’s life and the person must also have Faith when you pray. 🙏🏽 When the Holy Spirit leads you to pray for healing that is an indication God does want that person healed so it IS God’s will and they will probably be healed and maybe it will happen when you aren’t there have faith that the darkness or sickness was broken nomatter what it looks like it. It’s up to God and them. 😊🙏🏽 Thanks so much for sharing this. I needed this 😊🙏🏽

Really good advice Torben, thank you! If nothing happens after a couple of prayers and I feel that the person is still open, I have begun to share a testimony about a previous experience where I had to pray like 10 times before the person got fully healed. After having shared the testimony, things have turned around and things started to happen, the pain started to go away, and after 2-3 additional prayers, the person is fully healed. If nothing happens at all, I usually say that we always pray for an immediate healing, but that prayer often starts a process of healing and that I have faith in the fact that the person will be healed later on. I have in fact spoken to people I've prayed for where nothing happened and they confirmed that they got healed later. Ofcourse, this isn't always so. Sometimes, there simply is no breakthrough at that time. In these cases, we must encourage the person not to give up.

Hate rejection and when people deny you praying for them or get irritated because you're asking them to or irritated about God. I've always had a hard time with being denied or rejected, it makes be feel scolded. Please pray for me that as I go into my ministry that God would help me to just brush that stuff off, and not let it take hold in by mind and discourage me. That has the power to make me just stop and give up, if I let it.

When praying for someone, sometimes the amazing thing isn't what God has allowed to happened that we can see right away... it is what God is going to allow to happen in the future that we cannot see. You sowed a seed even if you didn't get to see the seed grow. Sometimes you must let God tend to the seed so he can give it a kick start. If nothing else, the amazing thing is that you trusted in God to sowed the seed against all odds now matter the outcome of that prayer. Thank you God and brother Torben for this message.

When Jesus ministered to the sick some had instant healing some recovered as they went. Any healing ministry shows that some are instant some recover. So tell them God with some heals instantly and some recover over time just pray and leave the results to God and don't forget to tell them about God healing them spiritually and giving them a new start in their lives.

It's a mistake SO many people make,thinking that it's the priest or the persons prayers that have brought about the healing miracle, but it is infact GOD who through the medium of the particular person has done the actual miracle. First of all, we must have faith that the person that you prayed for will receive healing. Secondly, we must never give up praying and learn how to wait patiently on God. Thirdly, do never doubt God when someone does not get healed. Every words you spoke over anyone in Jesus name are never wasted. Jesus says, knock and the door will be opened to you. Ask and it will be given to you Seek and you shall find.

This question came up on Wednesday at church when I was teaching on the Holy Spirit. When believers are stepping out into the realm of the “humanly impossible “ these are good question to have answers for.

The first time I prayed for someone and he got healed on the spot, I was really, really excited. And of course I kept going praying for anyone else I could pray for. Some got healed and some didn't. It's really exciting when they get healed, but it can be discouraging when they don't get healed. The best thing to do is have regular practice with this--if you don't do it for a couple months, it may be hard when you come back to it. In West Palm Beach some of us go to a food distribution and pray for people lined up there. We usually do this every Saturday (9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) when are in town and can make it. We have learned a lot in that process with regular practice, and I would like to share some things here. 1. We are not on a mission to rid the world of sickness--God could do that in a moment if He wanted to. We are on a mission to make disciples for Jesus, and healing is a big part of that. We want to share the gospel and the power of God! 2. You have to decide who to pray for and who not to pray for. If you go around trying to pray for every sick person you see, unless you are in full time ministry, I think you are going to get tired and run out of time. I have learned to be a little more sensitive to the Holy Spirit and see where He is leading me. If I feel compassion and an urging, I'm more likely to approach the person. (But I still sometimes approach people when I don't feel anything, just not everybody!) 3. Remember the focus... it's salvation and the gospel. Why would you approach everyone you see with a physical problem, but not approach everyone with a spiritual problem who needs the gospel? Can you talk with everyone in a store about salvation? We need to be led, or we are going to spread ourselves too thin and labor ineffectively. 4. I have found it makes a big difference if the person is interested or not, or really cares or not. I have seen an atheist get healed, but perhaps that's because God was directing and working and drawing the person. If you feel an urging, go for it! But when people have hard hearts, don't care, or don't believe at all, it's not as easy. If you learn how to heal all those, please tell me how!!!! 5. Sometimes we pray for someone and the pain goes down a little, but then it stops and won't move more. In that case, we often switch to emotional healing or check for unforgiveness. The key is to soften the other person's heart and get something started. After doing that, sometimes we do one more prayer and boom! All the pain is gone. EMOTIONAL HEALING (as first learned from Praying Medic) a) Ask the person, "Has anyone ever hurt you?" or "What is the worst thing that has happened to you in your life?" b) Ask, "When you think about that incident, what emotion comes to mind?" We don't need to know all the details of the event, just identify the emotion. c) Ask, "Are you ready to get rid of that? Are you ready to give it to Jesus and have Him heal your heart?" d) Forgiveness is a very important part of this. We often remind people of the words of Jesus, that unless they forgive others, they will not be forgiven. Of course you can amplify on this, talk about the parables and teachings on this. e) If a person is ready, have him or her pray and confess to Jesus. It's better if they make their own prayer--don't tell them exactly what to say. But they need to forgive that person (say it out loud, if possible) and release that person. They need to ask the Lord for forgiveness and then ask the Lord to heal their heart. It's a great time to confess sins and ask the Lord to forgive them. f) Usually a person is crying at this point, weeping and confessing. You know something is really happening in their heart. g) Ask them to think about that worst situation again and see if the same emotion comes back. Often the answer is no, it is gone and their heart is healed. You can check for any different emotions; if a different emotion comes to the surface, give that one to Jesus and ask Him to take it away. Whey they are all done, there will be peace. h) Pray for the physical problem again, and you are pretty much guaranteed it will leave immediately. Jesus came to save and heal! 6. The other trick is sharing the gospel first and explaining God's word about healing and why we do what we do. (Mark 16:20) And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word by the signs that followed. Amen. Signs are to confirm the word. If you don't first share a word, there is nothing to confirm!!!!

It's a bit challenging for me, but if I can help someone to become a disciple, then the amount of possible successes doubles. Thank You this really helped me. Right now remember when God gave word knowledge to a Gma on a child in hospital dying ; I didn’t know what it meant. 4 days later Gma ran up to us & say’s Dr knew what it meant & in 24 hrs child pulled out Iv n was running halls n God cured her then (over past years) rest family all tested n no longer this rare allergy any problem too them.

So encouraging brother Torben, thank you for sharing the advice and testimony! Among the times that I have seen clear evidence of God at work, there have been many times that I have felt strongly lead by the Holy Spirit to pray for or talk with someone and it seemed like nothing happened, and it would cause me to question whether I was hearing from God and rob me of my confidence in Christ to hear and respond to His voice. I think the enemy is always wanting us to make everything about us and focus on our abilities, when it is never about us. It is about Christ he is the one who asks and he is the one who performs the work. We are not responsible to make something happen, all we do is obey and He does the work. God bless you Torben and my other brothers and sisters out there! Let's be bold for Jesus regardless what things look like around us! God is always working behind the scenes and our witness for Christ is never wasted!

My father was a non beliver and he comes from hindu religion. I was born in a hindu family and now a born again beliver. I could never prove my dad that why I took such a big step to accept Jesus. One day he got really sick because of depression and we admitted him to the hospital. I was in prayer whole night and suddenly I had a vision of Jesus taking out the demon from my dad's stomach and kicking him off. I knew that my fathe healed. I got a call from the hospital next day that my dad is able to talk again. When he came home I explained his healing and he believed my words. The only thing he couldn't do was to leave his religion and give his life to Jesus. I kept insisting but he kept resisting. Today his condition is worse than before. He still believes that Jesus is just one of the thousand god's here on earth.He still wants me to pray but he is not ready to leave his religion and worshipping his idols. I have also seen the healing taking place immediately after prayer but nothing happens to their spirit further. I tell you why? The moment healing comes,God gives everyone the opportunity to surrender his life to Jesus. But they resist the Holyspirit and it never takes place. Conclusion: when we pray for people and we see nothing happens it doesn't means God didn't heard us. He always do but sometimes its people logical mind and their resistance towards Holyspirit which stops the further process that could take place more than just a physical healing if they would only believe.

Amen. Wonderful testimony. There are also wonderful, born again and spirit filled men and women of God who die everyday in this world, despite having the Holy Spirit, despite submitting to God. God is sovereign😊. His ways are not our ways, and sometimes He will NOT heal out of His own choosing. He does not always enact His healing power. But He is still a good,faithful and sovereign God.

Thanks for the lovely testimony - very encouraging. Yes, I usually say, "Would you like me to pray for you?" (Regards healing.) I don't promise healing. On occasion one will be led of the Lord to tell the person they will be healed: it is a prophecy and I think it upsets the demonic realm around that person. But only if led to. Thanks Torben.

A few years ago I was discouraged when I would pray for people to be healed and wasn't seeing anything happen. I felt like the Holy Spirit showed me that just because I don't see anything happen never means nothing happened. I would then get testimonies later that people were healed. After I pray for people whether I see anything change or not when I walk away as far as I'm concerned they are healed. I do see way more happening now when I pray for people than I did a few years ago.

Amen however when one pray for someone the should say I have no power of my own but it's the power of Jesus Christ which I give, some healing are instant, and some are gradual, and the hope we should give people is the word of God on healing by doing this they will hold God to His word by faith then their healing will come to those when nothing happens immediately. I never forget this testimony by Andrew Womack in his book a Better Way To Pray, when he was praying for a person blind eye, like Tobern he prayed several times according to the word of God and nothing happened, but he knew he prayed in faith and in accordance to the word of God, so he prayed in the spirit to find what was hindering the healing, a word of knowledge came to him saying the person don't need healing they need a CREATIVE MIRACLE which is not the same for healing, the reason was the person was born without all the eye parts for them to see so he then pray for the reconstruction of the eye and the MIRACLE HEALING came, the person was able to see for the first time in the L-eye, another hindrance to one healing is sin, always ask the person your praying for to ask for forgiveness to the Lord, otherwise your prayers may be a waste of time.

EXACTLY, if God wants you to be healed, healed you will be and not until then. As the angel said to Elijah, Oh rest in the lord, wait patiently for him, and he will give you, your hearts desire, commit thy way unto him, and trust in him, and fret not thyself because of evil doers. Pray and ask for healing by all means, but remember, it's up to him whether you get healing just THEN or at a time in accordance with his will. And I speak as one who has been seriously ill and disabled for many years, and now on ltd lifespan.
