Put the zippo in a zip lock bag after use. Lack of oxygen will suffocate it and it will turn off. Also, the zip lock bag will keep the fluid from escaping.

I would lean more towards a foil cap vs a plastic. I know it’s not really hot enough to melt the plastic. The fluid shouldn’t leak as long as it’s not over filled. The idea is similar to the Zippo lighter.

My only concern is with a harm warmer I wanna throw it in my pocket I know it comes with a heat sleeve but still a concern throwing the gas one in my pocket when I'm casting 500-600 times and then we stop to take a smoke break and warm up. Generally we bring a propane tank and heater with it so when were sitting we can warm up dry off the propane heater will warm you up in any temperature no doubt but when we're running the boat up and down the river that's when Id be using the hand warmer rest of the time it's gonna sit in my inside jacket pocket and or my pockets under my bibs so that's my main concern

I have both electric and fuel hand warmers. I find they both have their own pros and cons. For me personally, while I like the lighter fluid ones more, I find the temperature to be very inconsistent, I'll take it out of my pocket, and it's blazing hot. Then, 10 seconds later, it will be barely even warm from just being in open air, but they last longer than the battery ones, both in operating time and longevity. The electric warmers I find get hotter and have more consistent temperatures, but they also tend to damage themselves due to poor insulation between the heating serface and battery.

I work industrial repair and have two of the liquid fuel Zippo 12 hour hand warmers. They have, several times, kept me from having a thoroughly shitty work day. A couple of things I’ve noticed and learned about them; to turn it off simply remove the cover and let it cool enough to handle with bare hands ( 30 seconds is plenty). Then, with the edge of the cover, pop the catalyst head off the fuel tank ( bottom part). Obviously caution must be used to not drop or lose it. I simply set it in the top cover for a minute or two and it’s out. I bought a small bag of platinum catalyst to keep a small amount as a backup, as i travel for work, I don’t want the catalyst to go bad and not have any replacement. If you’re having trouble keeping the unit lit but still has fuel in it and the catalyst is good, check the packing under the catalyst chamber. If it is not soft and pliable it wont let enough fuel vapor pass into the catalyst chamber to keep combustion happening. If you’re going to use one of these, i suggest using it and getting used to it at home or in a controlled environment before venturing into the cold. It’s not completely intuitive and knowing how to use it and avoiding the quirks is extremely helpful. You don’t want to ruin an outing in the cold because you couldn’t get your hand warmer to work. I love these thing and have turned on a half dozen co-workers to them. Hope this helps some folks.

Appreciate you checking out the video! It's hard to compete with the fluid filled Zippo though the battery version still does a decent job on most days. When they stay lit, they do work as advertised and will last a full 10-12 hrs. They heat great and consistently. Worth the money they cost. Mine may just need a new catalytic element as they're only good for so many uses before needing replacement. But not everyone who uses them will remember to get new elements for them and may run into issues. I used mine last winter when plowing snow and doing outdoor chores on the 4 wheeler.

Used my Zippo hand warmer last winter and have started using it again this autumn. Absolutely love it. I hold the lighter underneath the catalyst part for around 30 seconds and have no issues with lighting it though I have done this since day one. The caps can be purchased from Zippo. The Catalytic material burns away over time. I normally get about (1) winter of heavy use from a cap, then it needs replacing. You can also repack the material with fireplace 'embers'. Same material. I double pack mine and it burns hotter. Minimal effect on time. Maybe 9-10 hours instead of 12.

I bought the Zippo 12 hr fuel type from Amazon and just used it today. I filled a whole capful using that plastic bottle thingie, and Ronson lighter fuel ($4 on Amazon). I had a lot of trouble lighting it. Not sure if it was lit or not. Some heat came out but it was very low heat and it kept going out several times, turning stone cold. Not sure what the problem is. Did I get a dud? I filled the plastic bottle to the level marked, which should be for 12 hrs. It went out every 3 hrs or so. I kept relighting it, it would be faintly warm for 1-2 hrs then go out again. What am I doing wrong - anyone?

Sorry to hear your having trouble with your zippo hand warmer. I'd personally return that one and exchange for a new one just in case it is defective which sounds like it is. Looks like you did everything correctly. Hopefully that helps and thank you for checking out the video.

Some of them have a break in period. You can overfill it a bit for the first 1-3 times. Then it 'breaks' in. Otherwise, make sure the little cap is snug tight on there. Also, they sometimes get shipped with the packing material -too low. You can return it, or use a safety pin to pull it up toward the top -but not over.

I personally haven't had any problems or safety concerns with the refillable but I wouldn't let a child handle it if they didn't understand the do and don't of this product. It's definitely gets hotter than any electric hand warmer and may be a little to warm for a young persons hands if they touch the vented area without the sleeve on it. But again I haven't nor have I heard of anyone have any type of safety issue with this model of Zippo.
@mjremy2605 Жыл бұрын
That was my question too, but apparently not! I bought one. I just used it today, and it's very safe. The fuel is safely below, and it floats up to the top as a vapor or soaked sponge. You can keep it in your pocket all day, no problem. Occasionally a faint whiff of lighter fuel but other than that, nothing. Very effective. Just buy it.
@Machria2310 ай бұрын
The fuel based handwarmer will not start a fire, it is really not “burning”, its more of a chemical reaction (catalytic) like in your cars exhaust system. And it does not get hot enough to burn anything. Especially if the cover is left on. Think about it, we put them in our pocket for 12 hours while running.
