That's pretty brave of you to show us your sewing room, thank you. I feel at home there. I have the same style of upsidedown lamp shade, in a corner with a roll of fabric stood up in it. It is my dream to have a place for everything and everything magnetically attracted to It's place. When my kids were in school, every fall, I would organize right after school started, but come October my kids would tear it apart looking to make Halloween costumes. They'd " put it back" by just stuffing willy nilly. They've all flown the nest but I'm too tired and there's grandkids and cats.

I'm currently working on my first Advance pattern from the 50's. So I'm adapting as best I can to 'not having my hand held' by the pattern instructions. Translation - where the heck is _that_ dart marked in the perforations and what do you mean, in step 8, I suddenly have to make bias tape... no where in the printed does it even mention that you little... augh! I recently reorganised my sewing room - swapped out of my child's ex-bedroom and put the bookcases in there instead to make room to have all my sewing stuff in one room. Three weeks without sewing and my family knew to avoid me and my moods! I planned to *finally* make a pair of jeans I've been planning for at least 5-10 years first. Made a pair of leggings (which I knew I could do in a couple of hours) while planning the jeans toile. Next up is a 1953 Australian Home Journal dress for a bit of a different sort of challenge. I skipped a line in the instructions and was puzzled for a bit, but figured it out. To my utter surprise the toile actually fits! Need to choose buttons next... and the right fabric from my stash...

For the attached seam question, I think they mean like for example if your center back seam has been folded left when sewing the neckline and folded right when sewing the hem? Either way, I got sewing slob and busy enthusiast. I would personally call myself a chaos goblin. I just finished a project and there's a mess over the entire surface of the table. 😅

i got Sewing Slob You know what you can get away with - whether it's not snipping your seam allowances (seriously... no one's going to see them) or not top stitching and pressing (because it's just for you/your kids and you don't care so no one else should). But it doesn't matter; you love sewing and you have a lot of fun doing it. Oh, and you and I have the same pile of clothes that were never hemmed. Oops...LMAO

About 20% of the time, when I finish a project, I glare at it and it goes into time-out for a day or two before I come back and fix whatever issue came up, but I've also been developing a shorts pattern and it's driving me NUTS.

The only way sewing saves money, factoring in the time aspect, is if you can do your own modifications and mends. We have several sewing shops around the office building that hem pants, take in seams, replace failed elastics and fix burst seams. Every visit takes at least 45 minutes, and every transaction includes two visits. My hemmed jeans have slightly visible hems, but my colleagues literally pay someone to take away two of their lunch breaks.

I did the Buzzfeed quiz but not the Seamwork one because I didn't feel comfortable with some rando company having my email address. The resutl I got was "Capable Clothier".. It states... "Capable Clothier - You make the most of your time sewing. You know that you don't have to baste EVERY TIME, but probably when you're gathering something. You know how to hem properly, but you may skip the cover stitching in favor of a plain zig zag stitch. You may find yourself multitasking - eating and sewing, maybe? You probably enjoy sewing a lot since you don't let it stress you out." It's pretty spot on, especially the part about multitasking aka "eating and sewing at the same time" 🤣

Pattern calls for an invisible zipper…then I e) redraft that part of the pattern to work with some other closure. Maybe a lapper zipper, maybe buttons, maybe lacing. And I do take invisible zips out of RtW and put in real closures, too.

I also identify as a chaos goblin/floor troll. I don't have a sewing room so my fabric is stored in two trunks in the spare bedroom and the iron in the bathroom next to it. The current projects pile is downstairs on my sofa and piled on top of the rabbit cage... I do plan out some projects meticulously (usually because of limited fabric) and I've had to implement a firm rule that before starting something new, I must finish a UFO and get something off the mending heap. And aside from notions, no new fabric, all new projects must be made with stash fabric until stash all fits in the two trunks...
