The light punches he's throwing aren't to condition the brain it's to get his fighters used to getting hit in the head without flinching or fear. After a while you lose all fear, but even after that you need to learn how to control breathing to tank the punches better

Learning to take blows. Your muscles can constrict very quickly too, so when you flex as a blow connects you can lessen the force. It's like your muscles becoming compacted sand for a split second and the forces are absorbed and cancelled out. The face is a bit tougher, as it requires the neck and jaw muscles to do the said process. The brain however gets best to shot bouncing against the skull. The vibrations create small tears and pockets in the tender brain too. This is why football has and had so many issues.
