Great info on Fall starts! My starts are hanging out indoors but harding off has begun. The next 4-5 days is above 90 degrees. So, just wondering about a risk of bolting if the are planted out too soon.

First time gardener here in Mississippi 7B. Love your channel and glad its not too late to fil up my garden with veggies. I started my brassica veggie seeds in late August in 4oz cups on the side of the house to get morning sun and afternoon shade. They look okay like 2-3 inches now. I want to transplant directly into my raised bed around mid-October. Thoughts?
@JulesGardening
@JulesGardening Жыл бұрын
Well they were started outside so should have strong stems. Already acclimated. I would transplant and use the plastic bell cloche. That would retain heat and keep moths off until the plants get established. Watch them everyday though with the cloche on. You don’t want to cook them. And good luck and thanks for watching. 👍

Great idea with using the bell cloth to protect against moths, which I have noticed in the raised beds area. I like it! Thanks!@@JulesGardening

4am = some horse dirt , they used to bronco bust can hurt rider & horse they tie to post. ... I read American Indian take horse in water get on. ... Guess what knights in shining armour the woman take care of horses. Guess what they take in water to ride. ..I read (it's like to me gold fish/guppies in tank or pigeons on sidewalk they scram but come right back) Amer. Indians push horses then stop & go back the wild horses they pushed followed them they go to valley/canyon to catch. They ride in water. It works for deer they are much scarier than horses. The female runs the herd if she ejects you away from herd you lose. In a race (there should be enough horses) they get strung out. Front runners those just off the lead horses & the closers .. it's called a flight. It's like 3 or 4 flights of horses. (5 horse race not really right can't unfold right)

I've noticed, ungions, leafs, and I'll just stop there!😁 I'm bad, I should have had my fall garden started already...😭 I'm shooting for this week.🤞 Oh good info on the garlic. How deep to you plant the garlic cloves? Mine never came up last fall ... Yea, I think I'll try to start my cabbage and broccoli seeds inside tomorrow. Ughhh.... Maybe I'll go look for starts! Bahahaha, I'm hopeless!😂 Have a blessed week, Jules!🌻🎶

Ba ha ha ha. Should have time still Misha. Especially for those short day crops. You plant the glove 1-3 deep. Do NOT leave them "half" like an onion. That doesn't work. And good luck, seeds or starts. Pros and cons for each. We went with starts. I am more concerned with slugs given last fall's fiasco!

Good list. All slugs aside, the brassicas should hold fairly well for you if you get them started now. I wonder if insect netting would help with the slugs. 🤔 Sept seems a bit early for garlic in your location? I usually target mid Oct but adjust based on forecasts showing daytime highs being in the mid 50s.
@JulesGardening
@JulesGardening 2 жыл бұрын
END of September, after the equinox. Basically Sept 22 to Nov 01 is the sweet spot. Ours were well established by Nov 01 last year. Simply hill them up with leaves and you are good to go. The consideration is time and space. If we wait until end of October then the pull would be late June. That is 30 days gone that could be used for a summer crop like cukes or peppers, etc.

@@JulesGardening makes sense. I'm my location, I prefer there to be no vegetation above ground because we get so cold here during the winter and don't always have snow cover to help protect it. Avg lowest temp is -15 F but some years we get a solid week hitting -25 F. That's character building weather right there. 🤣

September is just around the corner. I'm in zone 6b to 7a. I grew some stuff under a cold frame last winter. Actually the cilantro did better than any other time. (I was born in the Piedmont area of NC)

That is interesting on the Cilantro. We grew some outside in a container but it did not seed quick enough to come back. But it really was very healthy! Are you going to use the cold frame again?

New to gardening, don't know what I'm doing. Saw a couple of your vids and know you're in zone 7, I was told I was in zone 7a so I thought I could learn from you because you seem to LOVE IT. Will you let your plants stay in the grow bags until they mature or do you have to take them out and put them in the ground? Like I said, I'm a newbie but am wanting to learn.
@JulesGardening
@JulesGardening 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for leaving a note. Yes those will stay in the bags. Everything planted in the bags can grow in 1 to 3 gallon containers. Grow bags or containers allow you to control the soil and weeds. They do require more watering though versus growing in the ground. But growing in the ground means more mulch or weeding. It is a trade off. Thank you for watching please feel free to ask any questions you may have about growing. It takes a few seasons to get a good feel for it but it is fairly easy and fun once you get the hang of it.
@theage3888

@@JulesGardening thank you for your response. I will get some bags as I am not able to till my yard with this pitchfork and weeding can be detrimental to my back and hip. I'm learning how many of each plant I need to plant since it's only me so I'll go from there and I'll remember it may take a few seasons for me to get the hang of it and I will stick with it. Again, thanks for your help.
