To think that might not have been touched for 100s of years from a very different time is kind of mind blowing and super interesting

Very nice find! I wonder if the two coins joined is significant? I've found a few "love-tokens" and was very surprised they were more than just bent coins when I first found out.

Amazing find, i have a detector ive been out a few times with ralllys but finding my own permission is next to impossible. Im based in South wales would love to go out more any tips on how other than rallys?
@unearthed-detecting-tv24 күн бұрын
Gaining permission isn't always easy, concentrate on small areas first like paddocks etc, easy win 👉💥

Gaining permission is the key, don't rule out small paddocks

A completely uneducated guess? This person had something they were off to buy that cost the sum of these two coins, and to prevent the two becoming separated, he bent the larger around the smaller? Unfortunately for our adventurer here, there appears to have been a small hole in the pocket where he placed these coins. Good reason? No? Okay, back to my d&d writing...

@@unearthed-detecting-tv I’ve seen this before in Yorkshire in the 1960’s at a couple different antique shops and the old lady that owned one of them said they were curse coins to hex people and bring bad luck. Silver coin wrapped in a bronze coin.

My guess would be it was a symbol of allegiance. There was a lot of religious persecution at that time, and perhaps this was a way to secretly let someone know something when being searched, without it having to be spoken.

@@unearthed-detecting-tv I read about folded JEttons on website about Jamestown (US) and it said that coins were used like this for "apotropaic" reasons, which means to ward off evils apparently! What a lovely find.
@morrit3325 күн бұрын
Maybe... The coins were used together as a common denomination? Knowing nothing about this btw, just conjecture. Bit like buying lots of things all priced at £1.50 and instead of carrying lots of £1 coins and 50p pieces, they folded the £1 in the 50p piece... Or maybe paid like a wage...?
