I’m just gonna say that almost all of the stories you hear off to the death gladiator fights weren’t actually gladiators, but criminals forced to fight as punishment, where they would fight and fight until they died or became so popular with the crowd they were spared. Gladiators would stop fighting when the other was knocked out or too injured to carry on, not when the other was dead. It was more like a boxing fight with weapons.

Finally someone who knows their Ancient Gladiatorial history. So many people think that it was all a bloodbath of death and brutality.
@iamaidansmith75422 жыл бұрын
@@puglordofderp5085 well I mean gladiators killed each other but not all the time but techilly those criminals who fought to the death were gladiators still if they got too popular then there life would be spared gladiators are imo the most fun bit of history to study I love it

Weren’t gladiators mostly treated like celebrities or sports starts like today? Or was the stuff in this video how it was in the early years? Because I watched a video a while ago about gladiators saying that the gladiators were expensive to train, feed, cloth and look after so killing wasn’t allowed

Awesome effort, really enjoyable, congratulations. However, there was no such thing as "thumbs up, thumbs down" on gladiator fights. If you want the loser alive, you just wave the tip of your toga and say "missio"; if you want him dead, you just say "iugula" (behead) and move your thumb under your throat from one side to another, as we still do today, and that's all. At the Colosseum, the Vestal Virgins decided who must die or live.

It's like they acknowledged that killing didn't really happen so much between gladiators but then went on a tangent about all the emperors would just do it whenever and every time. No, the emperor has a budget too, he's not going to just randomly waste what could be the cost of a company's equipment for nothing. Especially over the course of long events like Titus'. How many legions could that waste buy?

Most gladiators were glory seeking athletes who went to gladiator school There were some slaves but not all of them since gladiators were like modern day Hollywood stars in the eye of the masses loved and cherished by them sponsored and some gladiators done the ancient Rome equivalent of ads
