Awesome video, I was curious about these things as well. I had to kind of laugh though... I guess "the new generation" of pilots are coming in with RotorRiot instead of Charpu, as did "my generation". I think that sort of makes you part of the 3rd generation. 1st were the pioneers, which Charpu is probably a part of the trailing edge of. But regardless of where you discovered FPV (almost always on KZbin), you started same as me, with a crappy LOS brushed toy quad. I liked it, but like you, it didn't really inspire me. It was only when I discovered FPV that I became instantly obsessed. XD I did have 3D heli experience before the toy quad, but while it lasted longer than the toy quad, I was drawn to the geeky side of it, and then once that part became annoying and the fact that I then had a baby daughter who could now run into my helis, it was over instantly, with a few years before the toy quad. By the time I was into FPV my daughter was old enough to know better. :-) Keep up the good work. PS, so, if not cooking for kids or engineering, what IS IT that you want to do?? Pro drone pilot? ;-) PSS, You are from France originally? I kind of get that with your accent, but it seems different somehow from what I have heard before. Such as Parisian being different than Bretagne. My father's side of the family is originally from Lyon, which I guess is the accent I'm most familiar with, and then Paris since I spent some months there.

Yeah I think I'm definitely part of the generation inspired by Rotor Riot. Thanks for sharing your story ! PS : I'd like to work in media such as photography and video editing. I wouldn't say no to a Pro drone pilot career, but i think i'm already too old for that haha ! PPS : I'm from France indeed, the region I come from is called Alsace and it's next to Germany. Maybe it explains why my accent sounds different from what you're used to, because my French already has kind of a German accent too :)

kewl, yes, I know of Alsace, some delicious white wine comes from there. ;-) Good luck with the medial career! I made a stab at being a fashion photography in the early 90's, even landed me in Paris. Then my inner geek took over and that's all she wrote. LOL Cheers!

Try turning your rates up. It could smooth you out a lot. the stick movements become a lot less and when you relax, it's sometimes much easier to fly.

Kabab FPV Thanks for the advice. I think I still haven't found the rates I need to fly. There were really high when I started then I turned them down a lot 😅 I'll try to turn them up a little bit now that I've improved a bit, to see how it goes 👍

Hi, I like your channel and I just wanted to send an encouragement message! I've recently got into FPV after watching (in amazement) at Rotor Riot videos. But I find interesting watching people making progress… By the way, I'm an expat too (living in Paris right now), but I've spent a few months in Australia (back in 2000)… so it's a special country to me… Anyway, keep going, KZbin needs fresh creators like you!

Really liked the talking part of this video. Engineer! Awesome. Nice to see where people came from & into the hobby. I am right there with you as being inspired by Rotor Riot but also by Charpu. Too old to be a racing pilot? You're never too old to do anything until you determine it so. You're also never too young or old to follow your dreams. Nice flying also & I agree with Kabab you should increase your rates a little bit, you have transcended the limits of that setting.

I'm also a mechanical engineer and currently quite addicted with FPV drones... I cannot dedicate too much time to them due to three main reasons which are: 1) my work 2) my daughters 3) living in Venice (old town) where it is impossible to fly... What I cannot tell is whether I prefer to fly those things or fix and modify them... I've recently burnt my first ESC (there is a video of the accident in my profile) and replacing + sync it was very very funny. BTW: my first drone was a Syma X5C-1

First drone ever?.. Syma X5SC, still playing with it around the house. In case that didn't give you the clue, I'm still very new to flying quad copters (started a few weeks ago). I'm not what you would consider a "pilot" yet, still trying to keep it out of the trees and ground. Weather is wet, windy, and freezing here this time of year, so flight time is minimal. Spring will be here in a couple months, maybe then I can get to where I don't totally suck at it.. Great fun, something different from the main passions of motorcycles and bicycles..

You never really told YOUR story... Here's my answer: The formidable Estes Proto X was my 1st factory quad. My sons (HS students at the time) and I flew indoor helis in the winter and the ProtoX was too cool NOT to add to the fleet. Back then I was flying FPV fixed wing planes, had plans to move into long range FPV, but the "drone boom" and resultant new laws killed that plan. (I have a Dragonlink Tx and a lot of 1.3ghz video gear that I hardly broke in... My longest fixed wing flight was about 2 miles one way into a tree. (I digress, as usual)) During this time, I had built a Flamewheel with a KK and 2212s, but never really did much with it. I flew it LOS when it was too windy to fly GS a few times, but it never called to me. Last year I decided to learn to fly FPV quad (It's nothing like fixed wing), so bought a Diatone whoop (2nd factory unit) and a dozen batteries. That got me 'in the game' and when the weather improved in the spring, I built a ZMR250, mostly because I was tired of 1:40 flights, and 6 minutes sounded great. I finally sprung for 10 HK Graphenes (4S1300) and burned them every chance I got. (got 10 more on sale so now have 20) It took most of the summer, but I built and fly a course in my backyard, occasionally flying at the clubs I belong to. I have a ways to go before I'm 'ripping balls' like Steele, but am enjoying the trip. Mistakes cost less than Giant Scale Fixed wing, and I can fly in my backyard when I have an hour or 2.
