Yes I wrote a longer summary for the steps to the Civil War and this the Wilmot provisio could have been step in a newer version. I think Calhoun was one of the worst politician for pre Civil War era! His effect was horribile for the conflict. If I could say who was the biggest responsible for the 750 000 dead people in the Civil War I can say him first among others as Stephen Douglas with the Kansas Nebraska act!
