I am not usually a flower person as they are hard to grow in the desert. However, some flower varieties are awesome for teas, so I am adding those flowers to my garden. Congratulations on the little one. Best wishes!

@@bluebirdhomestead I have several varieties of mint plants that go well with Lemon Grass, Hibiscus and Lavendar. I also have German Camomille that is really yummy with Hibiscus flower. Rose Petals, dried orange peels and dried lemon peel is also a good flavoring. I use Cloves, Cinnamon, Licorice, Cardamom and Ginger as spices to add to the tea combinations. My favorites are Earl Grey with Lavendar, Orange peels with Cinnamon and Black Tea, Hibiscus flower with Lavendar. I know there are more flower flavorings, but I've just recently gotten into making teas. I'm buying some tea plants to grow, also.

@@bluebirdhomestead Anything to bring in the pollinators. I have only seen one bee over the course of two years. An occasional moth or butterfly only. So, I have modified what I am growing in my apartment garden for things that don't need as many pollinators. But still want to plant medicinal flowers and herbs.

I also just learned that a neighbor behind my apartment was spraying anti foliage chemical for a vine that runs along the fence to some of my garden containers and above ground troughs. So it could be situations out of my control. I am happy there are no wasps though lol

I had severe morning sickness with my daughter and had a one month pause and the only thing I wanted to do was plant bulbs that needed to be planted in the winter. It was a crazy desire because I had never planted anything before. But having my hands in the cool dirt was so soothing to me. Those yellow cannas are still blooming in that side garden and my daughter is in her 40’s!

Congratulations!!! Strawflowers are one of my favorites! So easy, and it germinates great with milk jug winter sowing. How do you grow so many pumpkins/squash without the borers taking everything out? That is my greatest enemy!

@@b-chomesteading3066 Awww well I wish you lots of happy flower success this year :) Theoretically you can take cuttings in the winter time, but they are considered "hard wood" cuttings. It is easier they say to take "soft wood" cuttings in the spring time instead. You can always give it a try though! :) You are cutting the branches to prune anyway haha -Cara

So awesome you are able to harvest year round. I am working towards that but being in zone 3 it will take a lot of cold frames, lol. You gave me some good ideas for flowers, I am trying to grow more. They really do add a lot to the garden :)

Thank you! Oh no I am sorry you were sick the whole time for all of your pregnancies. That is really hard with little ones running around especially. We are in zone 7 here, so our winters are fairly mild, but still cold. Not too much growing right now besides carrots haha. I am loving growing flowers for cutting, I think that is something I am looking forward to the most this year in the garden, plus the yummy food of course ;) Do you have a favorite flower variety for cutting? -Cara

@@bluebirdhomestead It was all worth it though :) I haven't done much for cutting flowers, just your standard marigolds and calendula. We do have a lot of wild flowers than I like to pick a bouquet or two from every year. They are pretty small though, nothing like the bigs ones you can grow in the garden. I did buy some sunflowers for cutting this year, hopefully they aren't too heavy in pollen, that's not something I ever though to think about!

@@bluebirdhomestead I have not found them to shed at all. Especially if you cut them just as they start to crack open. You’ll be very impressed by them! I did have a bit of an ant problem on mine but I dunk them in mild Castile soap water and that takes care of the ants.

I grew up on a farm playing outside everyday, so my husband Ryan and I wanted our kids to be raised the same way. It is a blessing to be out in the country for sure. She was supposed to save the seeds for me, but we both forgot and I'm sure the pumpkin has been fed to the chickens by now. 😉😂🤷‍♀️

The best thing to grow for sure! CONGRATS! I like my artichokes as I leave many to bloom instead of harvesting the artichoke. Have you tried them - they are beautiful and bring in the pollenators.

WoW - you're growing so much watermelon! 👏👏👏 SunGolds are my favorite Cherry Tomatoes, too. 😁 Very true about the "forever" nature of volunteer Ground Cherries. ☺️ My Purple Tomatillos, German Chamomile, Cilantro, Okra, Borage, and Ruby Red Lettuce are all the same way around here. ☺️ I enjoy growing and drying herbs, too - planning to harvest even more of them this year. Congratulations and blessings 🎉 I’ve gotten my seeds all started. Being zone 9b I’m reworking my garden thinking. The brutal heat makes growing really miserable so I’m hoping by having my veggies in by the 1st week of March my garden will be put to bed by the beginning of July 🥰 Then I can prep for fall planting. Flowers are so wonderful to grow. They bring so much joy to a garden 😊

I absolutely loved canning applesauce. I had about three bushels. We are out of applesauce 😳 it was just so out of this world delicious and so was the apple juice. No sugar added.
