A few comments: 1. About the tea cup size. People usually ask "can you add me one more". Usually in Ethiopia tea is served one time...but coffee, you may have three of them in a single cup 🙂 2. About the waiters and waitress language issues: Even if English is medium of instruction in school, there is a huge gap of English language skill. Hence, when someone start speaking English, many get scared/shy and want to go away from the scene to avoid misunderstanding or not to feel ashamed. It is not because they don't want to serve you. (In rare cases they may think you are Ethiopian(because you do look like Ethiopian, and you don't want to speak the local language, that time they may feel angry/sad)). Hospitality is indeed getting better. 3. About the transport system: There is all option but still people are lining up for public transport. Hence, there is a long way on this. It is because you guys were using local Ubers like RIDE or FERESE. Hence, if you tried public buses or mini buses(blue mini buses), there is a shortage still. 4. About the beggars, the government put a policy to make street begging illegal. Even drivers will be punished if they give at traffic lights... but, there must be a big strategy to minimize it....some elderly use there kids to make money out it... 5. Staring at people...hmmm...Keep in mind people are not at all comfortable of recording videos...and they may stare at you if you do so and ask you to stop it...Anyway, that staring is there 🙂 6. Electricity/Water... For your information, 60% of Ethiopians don't have access to Electricity and Clean water....that is almost 60 million people... the water/electricity problem/shortage in the city is related to service quality. The government must solve this. We export electricity because we need $ not because we have extra 🙂...Maybe after GERD dam is completed it will get better.... 7. Internet is getting better...I was there a year before and as you said best option is unlimited monthly internet Ethiotelecom...like below $20... 8. People should be smart where to go and shop if in budget 9. Life generally is ok for those with $ or Euro...but for the local it is extremely difficult... 10. About the supply at supermarkets, Ethiopia still didn't open it to foreign investors, and local supply chain sometimes has shortage of supplies do to different reasons $ shortage is one of them....But, I saw many big supermarket such as Shewa who are very big...keep in mind also the trend of going to supermarket is not yet a habit for all...people go to markets such as Markato or mini markets at their nearby...hence, not everyone goes there.... Good summary...Thanks for visiting Ethiopia. Comeback!!!

@@rob21112 I would rather continue loving Ethiopia and advocating for Ethiopia to be better, greater, and united... when you are helping from the side you can serve the country longer and better... In Africa, democracy is far from reaching, hence, it is difficult to get embedded with governments...I would rather prefer being helper, supporter, advocator for better services and life of the people. Thanks for the good words!

Welcome to the land of origins, Kish & Jacki. The observations here are quite accurate: regarding beggars, the locals are generous believers & often donate, which encourages beggars & children to come out. For tea, if you need more, order a double tea, though it will still be slightly smaller than a Kenyan cup. As for English, few people speak it, & they often avoid using it to prevent embarrassment in front of their friends. It’s best to have a local language speaker with u whenever possible. Hope u enjoyed your time.

Thanks for sharing your experience Kish my world! Of course, Ethiopia generates a surplus of electricity but the frequent electric outages are attributed to an old distribution grid that needs intensive upgrades to cope with the demand. Regarding water, the supply doesn't meet the demand of the city.
@eyosiasshimelis6763
@eyosiasshimelis6763 24 күн бұрын
As an Ethiopian, I agree with 95% of what you've said. The power outages are indeed due to poor infrastructure, like the cables and transformers. However, one thing to note is that exchanging money at banks isn't practical because they offer a rate of $1 = 57 birr, while the true value on the black market is around $1 = 120 birr. So, using cards or banks for currency exchange means you're getting a much worse deal.

Of course there is Both water and Electricity in Ethiopia but the reason is due to civil war in some areas where the electricity and water is coming form or due the reason that they are still bust contracting most of the cities. Guys electricity is a serious problem even in a country like France and South Africa.

Brother Kish let me be honest with you, we love you. But most of us Ethiopian men are very jealous when we see any foreigner with an Ethiopian girl. 🤭 Even though we don't have a biological relationship, whenever we see our women dating a foreigner, the thing that immediately comes to our mind is the fear and negative message of She's taken away, she's gone. 😂 And the funny part is always We are not willing to accept.
