hey guys! this video is a REUPLOAD. The original video was taken down due to my usage of the word konnichiwa. here was the comment I posted before removing that video. *My sincerest apologies for not using better judgement on usage of the phrase "konichiwa". my understanding is that it is a greeting. And because I was feeling very Geisha-ish when I added red in the center of my lips, I thought...well....none of that matters. It was hurtful to some, so I apologize

I will add my two cents As an asian who lives in Asia and has never been outside of Asia. Jackie was simply living for the look gurl. That lip look was cute. The ombre gradient lip look has been around Asia forever. It is not exclusive to Korea or Japan but it was popularized by K-beauty. Saying hello in Japanese is not meant to degrade or to be culturally insensitive. Aunty Jackie is better than this. I truly believe she would never be insensitive to Asian cultures. In some way, us Asians dealt with the same issue as black people. Us asians LITERALLY promotes skin whitening products and we urges asian boys and girls to have the most snow white skin. We are rarely taught to appreciate darker skin tones let alone medium and tan. So please, Jackie has been fighting for diverse shade range so that people of darker skin can feel beautiful and the palest of skin tones can feel beautiful. Jackie is not in any way racist or culturally insensitive and I love it when she said Konichiwa.

One thing I don’t understand is how in the hell is it okay for (just an example) Nikki Minaj to dress and act as a very stereotypical Asian character, make money out of it and Jackie here literally has to edit and reupload the video JUST for saying hello in Japanese!?! Even as an Asian person I don’t understand

When I visited Bali I was so shocked to see how many 'whitening' face products I found in the pharmacy stores. I genuinely couldn't believe that having soft snow white skin was such an aspiration in Asia and it was troubling since many people in Bali aren't in fact white.

doyeons I love Japanese and South Korean culture (I'm from the Caribbean) and I'm aware of geisha history and the lip gradient trend in SK. Could you explain why it was offensive because when I saw her paint her lips it did remind me of a traditional geisha. Does the word have a racist history? I'm just trying to understand.

fxwafuwa I don't think that was mocking, but trying to speak the language properly. For example, there's immigrants that try to do American accents and it seems like mockery, but in reality it's trying to learn. You can't effectively speak another language in your original accent. P.s. I'm not taking sides just addressing that part

Jmo I mean if someone tried to do cat eye liner look and creating a makeup look that make their eyes look more upturned, and proceed to say a Asian related comment then yes I would understand, but Gradient lip on the other hand is just a famous east Asian makeup trend and red lipstick in the middle of the lips is Geisha makeup..not a Asian related facial feature.

Ssofia As a Black woman, if many people took offense to something someone of another race said about my race and didn’t apologize and/or take it down, I’d be mad. You’d be mad. Just because YOU’RE not offended doesn’t mean that others don’t have a right to be, and I tell that to offensive white people all the time. Jackie handled this impeccably and good for her.

If you're actually offended rn by Jackie making her own decisions about her ethics you should take a hard look at yourself. Even if it was just a few people who were offended, and for the vast majority of us who are not Japanese it's not really our call to make, Jackie's a grown ass woman and can decide for herself how she wanted to deal with it. She decided even if it was a small number who wrote in, she didn't want to contribute to the problem. As a black woman who has spoken about microaggressions before I'm sure she has empathy for those who felt hurt. Even if its no big deal to you or me, it can be one more little drop that brings them closer to the edge.

Fraya, Actually, people WERE being too sensitive with it. I didn’t see the need to bash on Jackie for something she did that wasn’t meant to offend people. Whatever it was she did, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t her intent to offend anyone. Many are offended by what they consider an "attack" on their deeply held beliefs, but saying hello in another language is not an attack. And as for you calling me ignorant, no, I am not. For the record, I am Asian and I didn’t find anything wrong with what she did or said. If certain things like this offends you, that’s just really sad.

Calling us Ling Ling, throwing rice at us, wearing our culture, etc but when someone even LOOK at y'all wrong, WE all of a sudden are racist... Jackie gained much more respect from me 👏🙌 she understood that she made a mistake, apologized, and fixed the problem. 🙌👏 Now for those who don't understand or are too ignorant to understand, people weren't offended by Jackie using the word. They felt offended because she said the word in a "mocking" way. Also, some took it as she was lumping Koreans and Japanese together because she was doing a typically south Korean trend while speaking Japanese. (Basing this off what everyone was saying in the comments) Telling people to get over it because its just a "greeting" is just like when non-blacks tell black women to get over it because braids are just braids. The problem with alot of people (this goes for every ethnicity ) is that people only want equality or respect when it comes to their cultures but don't want to give that same respect back. Its a two way street.

Firstly baids are a basic hair style that anyone can wear so I am a okay with a non black person telling a black person who's bothering them about their hair choice to buzz off. It's fucking hair get over it, black people didn't invent braids and we should be happy that they are becoming more socially acceptable. As long as the non black person isn't talking shit about black people there should be no problem. (Fun fact braids are a hair style found in all cultures) Secondly she didn't say it in a mocking tone, she said it in a silly way as if she was saying hello in English when she's feeling herself. She felt like a geisha so Japanese was appropriate to use. (Fun fact number 2 gradient lips are big thing all over East Asia, not just in South Korea)
