What we packed for our move to Ecuador

Today we are giving our viewers information on what we packed to move to the Ecuadorian coast.
This does not include the Andes or Amazon as the climates are much different.
Many people move to Ecuador for many reasons including but not limited to; lower cost of living, nature, adventure and a healthier style of living. Another benefit is low cost health insurance!
Many people don't realize that Ecuador has a great private health care system with current equipment and excellent doctors!
The majority of foreigners who relocate to South America are retirees and a few younger adventure seekers such as ourselves.

I'm bringing a container. My reasoning is that I've spent 40 years accumulating my treasures and don't want to start over. I'll be buying a house within a few months, in the Loja province, southern Andes, so replacing everything will cost more than the transportation of what I know to be of high quality. I've found that so many things in Ecuador or either very expensive imports from the US or Europe of much lower quality from China. I did a lot of window shopping on my pre-move trips and am sorting and packing. I expect to store everything in the US for a bit and make my trip in a few months. As travel is so cheap and expenses in Ecuador so economical, I can come back to visit and supervise the move of my container once I've gotten the residency process started in E...

Thanks for showing me closer to what I'd want in Ecuador than most YTers. I bet, just like a lot of people, my stuff is holding me captive. My idea is to rent a 10ft x 20ft storage unit for stuff I'm not ready to part with but, I'm not making much headway toward that goal. I live alone in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house with a full basement. I have a 28ft x 40ft garage so, I have a lot of stuff. I do realize I don't use much. A lot of stuff I do use, I think there are good replacements for in Ecuador. I have 10 motorcycles but, Ecuador has Voge or Loncin 300 Rallys that do not come to the US and people in the rest of the world seem to love the Voges for adventure riding. I believe the Loncin is the same KLX 300 clone with a carburetor instead of FI. I have lots of cast iron cookware, most vintage but, Victoria is made in Columbia. I'd bring a few Victorinox paring knives but, my favorite bigger knife, a Mundial was made in Brazil. I have lots of tools but, most of the stuff I'm attached to I keep hidden so it doesn't get stolen. I'd love to have a tiny house, not apartment, not a condo, free standing house with a yard and out buildings but, tiny houses are very, super illegal where I want to live in the US. It looks like there are lots of those in Ecuador. I'd like to move out of the metropolitan area I live in (crime) but, moving to the outlying areas, the roads are posted 55mph but, you'll get rudely passed or followed closely at 80mph. I keep telling myself "the first step in getting where you want to go is knowing you don't want to continue doing what you're doing". Even if I end up not staying in Ecuador, I believe I could find something that works better for me in the US than what I'm doing.

We Blessed many ! Harleys, welders, Trailers, all sold cheap or given away. we shipped a lift van, however the US based Devries failed us in not packing our belongings correctly 😢. We order Amazon here and the rest is found in bigger cities. Sheets, blankets, towels, knives, cookware , and small appliances were our bring alongs. We’re tall so inseams over 32 not found for men . OMG ! I brought my Geometry towels too. They are fabulous

I am retiring next March and we are planning to move to Ecuador by next September and we have already started to sell stuff as of this month. If you know you are going to be making the move then start as soon as you can and sell items you can do without.

Definitely a good idea. We didn't start as soon as we should have, but that's ok. Just materialistic stuff. We're very happy with no longer having a bunch of "stuff" in our new home in Ecuador. Thanks for watching!

Canisters: buy on coast ? Magnetic strip for knifes bring? Find stainless steel pans,,shorts :I dont wear because I like LONG shorts. I wear dresses. Jeans. Rugs ? Yarn: merino I knit. afghan. sweater for Cuenca. can buy there ..Mildew ? clothes ? items mildew ? Great presentation. thanks.
