1. Pay for play system is idiotic - 90% of great footballers in History came from poverty, poorest children can't afford to play, immigrant kids from South America or Mexico can't afford to play, because of that system you loosing your best talents. Football is not and never was elite's sport, it always was poor people and working classes sport, 2. MLS is not competitive at all because few teams play for the title and more than a half of teams play for nothing because nobody gets relegated. At least 4 teams have to be relegated every year to elevate level of competivness. When your ass is on fire you run quicker and your'e way more focused

Testify my brother. Champions are born and bred in tough backgrounds, they grow up with a chip on their shoulders always having something to prove to themselves. The US teams, the players have no backgrounds that's worthy of anything. Not that they should be ashamed that they came from good homes, but we're missing out on talent because there is not the infrasrtucture and the monies to help develop these kids. Another point that was made is all the best players from around the world eventually make their way to Europe at a young age to develop better, they're so arrogant they think they can do a better job than the Europeans in developing talent.

Klinnsman was one of the architects of the German revival starting in 2004. It's not his fault that when he arrived in the US he had to deal with stuck up players, stuck up USMNT management, and stuck up media who did not want to revamp their system. I remember saying for months how shit talking Klinssman in the US won't make anything better for the US................ well.... Now we have to revamp everything, otherwise its back into the dark ages.

+Soberanis Fam Set US soccer back from what? Before Klinnsman got there there were what 3 good players in howard Dempsay and Donovan? Now we at least have young talent like Pulisic, Yedlin, Zelalem etc. Klinnsmans been the only US coach to actually go out and get players from Europe actually try to build up and farm talent and push his players to go to Europe cuz he knew the MLS was a joke. Hes not a great coach by any means but hes miles ahead of what the USA has ever had... the main problem is that the USMNT didn't buy into his system.

The big problem with US soccer is 1) Players are offered much more money to play overseas than in MLS resulting in a move far away from your home. Euro players on the other hand can visit their loved ones back home much easier just by hopping on a cheap flight. 2) For soccer to gain popularity in the US, MLS will not and perhaps never create the level of hype needed for new fans to get on-board. The most watched cup with some of the best talent in the game is by far the Premier League which is usually aired early-late morning in the US. I'm on the east coast and I need to wake up at 7am on a weekend to catch some games. The majority US population will never get on that schedule. Bundesliga and La Liga will also never get fans on-board as it's A) dominated by basically a 2 or 3 clubs for an overall lack of excitement and competitiveness compared to the Premier League and B) hardly ever broadcast in English over here. 3) Complete lack of incentive for our younger generation to choose soccer over (American) football, baseball, and basketball as each of the latter offer extremely high scholarships and the ability to play in your home country/not have to move overseas.

Simply being not good enough and complacency are the main problems. People moan when the older players are still being used, but that sums up the quality of the younger players. The MLS as a whole, is a poor league. Most of the players aren't playing in the top leagues. Klinsmann did wonders with the US team and they wouldn't have qualified for as many tournaments as they did if he wasn't there (which now shows). And if you think doing well at the Olympics means that you'll do well in the professional game, then you are deluded. And now, they seem to have this American attitude of doing just enough and expect to win. And if they think that relying on Pulisic is one idea, then they'll just go backwards.
@suryavajra
@suryavajra 6 жыл бұрын
Klinsmann was overrated for various reasons. Back in 1994, the US National Team made the quarterfinals without all of the soccer infrastructure. Until someone comes around an coaches a team to go beyond the quarterfinals in the World Cup, every coach under-performs.
@suryavajra
@suryavajra 6 жыл бұрын
One more thing. Look at the last three world cup champions, what do you see? Teams chalked full of players that have play with and against each other on a regular basis in their own leagues. It's no accident that the German national team is full of guys that are playing for Bayern Munich and Boroussia Dortmund, and Spanish team full of Real Madrid and Barcelona players. Soccer is a team sport primarily, and it doesn't matter as much where you play, but with how often you play and with whom. A national teams full of players who play all over the world is not going to be successful, a national team made up of guys coming out of the local clubs that play with and against each other are a lot more suited to playing as a cohesive unit.

Until US soccer can find a way to work around the ridiculous pay for play system, there will be absolutely no progression as a football powerhouse. The inability to give inner city kids or kids from financially unstable backgrounds an opportunity is seriously holding back USMNT. As an Englishman I find it unbelievable, as half our national team and greatest football players are lads from working class families or tough backgrounds. Their individual desire to prove their strength of character and rise to stardom with football IQ and hunger. I guarantee USMT and US soccer will be losing future quality stars to other sports and that as lover of this great sport is so disappointing. I’d like to see them back at a World Cup, but a whole systematic change to the national soccer infrastructure and youth development is needed if the US are ever going to compete past the qualifying rounds of the World Cup

@@rohithraman6488 At times, missing out on a major tournament can be the best thing that can happen for a national team. The USMNT isn't alone. Look at France. They missed out on the 1990 and 1994 FIFA World Cups and went on to win the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000. The Netherlands at times miss FIFA World Cups and they bounced back.

So much re-structure is needed but there is hope...For example in US Soccer history only 3 American players have gone through the Juvenil Divisions (U17-19) in the challenging Academy system in Spain (the best development system in the world) and are now playing in 3rd Division National as Seniors: 18-yr old Ander Egiluz (CD Basconia), 20 yr old Mukwelle Akale (Villareal C), and 18 yr old Hayden Canizalez (UP Plasencia)...perhaps the '99-'97 age groups is what U.S. Soccer needs to invest on.
