Issues I had with it 1. there was a TV series at the time and they had to play in to what was happening on the TV series which had also messed up its writing 2. Comedy writing of the era had changed. Look at any film from the 80s compared to any film from the 90s/2000s you can feel the tone is different 3. It was trying to be too PC, too kind. Tackelberry was nerfed by being told he couldn't use excessive force. 4. not enough returning cast 5. the forgot there own continuity things I would have loved to see in a police academy film characters have children who also become cops a bomb disposal officer with a robot side kick integration of new technology one of the old cast members becomes head of the academy and things I hate in movie, when Hollywood is clueless on how video games work. Honestly, some one could do a whole video on video games and there depiction in movies and TV. Its a huge rant with many examples on both sides. Comment if you want to discuss that more and build a new topic around it.

This sequel felt so different that I am surprised producer Paul Maslansky was involved. Robert Folk's themes from the other films were mostly in the film but there are a lot of comedic music that sound nothing like his work. I wouldn't be surprised if it was an uncredited composer. So many of the gags felt so out of place. It was so weird. The part that always gripes me is the use of the Game Boy in the plot and the absolutely poor production design, especially the Bear of the game. I know they had a lot of problems in the making of this film in Russia but it felt like the writers didn't even study the previous films especially for the characters. Great review, well studied and I liked your ideas too. 👏

The real difference is how they portrayed Captain Harris. Devolving from a pompous, mean-spirited a**hole representing the worst in authority figures where he still refused to buckle despite becoming the butt of pranks to a sniveling cartoon coward that, for some reason, suffers from extreme anxiety when around the other cadets. The Harris of old wouldn't be pulling deer-in-headlights faces in their presence when caught red-handed or simply sharing company like what he kept doing here.

People blame writers ("the writers did not care...") but as someone who has worked as a screenwriter, I can tell you writers are usually not to blame. Writers are outranked and outvoted by the producers and the director. I have sat in a room with a producer to my left and director to my right, each giving me notes, telling me what they want to see in the film. Sure, I could refuse. Just as a cinematographer could refuse to get the shot he's directed to get. But then I'd be replaced and probably end up with credit anyway. In short: Don't just ASSUME it was the writers' fault. Maybe it was in this case. I dunno. Wasn't there. But I'd suspect it wasn't them. Or at least, not JUST them.

Can't you have your name removed? I know Andrea Romono removed her name credit from the Jetson's movie. Because they replaced Waldo's voice. Or do writers have different rules to voice directors. If I wrote this film. I would have had my name removed from it.

Cosigned. The writer's name may appear in the credits, but the producers/directors can butcher the script as much as they want.

This was my least favorite of the Police Academy series. The tone didn't feel the same as the other six films.

Wait they called the game, The Game, weird. You should do What Went Wrong with Scooby Doo Return to Zombie Island and believe me it felt like a slap in the face type of film. Also I never watched any of the Police Academy movies but this film sounds like they really didn't know what they were doing.🐻

I genuinely love the first six films. They start to go downhill after Back in Training, but I still find them very watchable and fun. City Under Siege was pushing it, but there are enough entertaining moments to carry the runtime. Mission to Moscow was just a disaster! To this day I don't think I've made it all the way through the whole film, and it's just a cash grab crapfest with no redeeming features, bar maybe Leslie Easterbrook's singing. Some franchises just needed to stay in the 80s.

Wow, I knew Police Academy had like a truckload of sequels, but I never even knew that was a 6th, and 7th one, though considering that the last 2 did very poorly--7 especially--even more so then the previous sequels, it's obviously not surprising at all. PA6 came out the year I was born, and I was 4 when PA7 came out, and if the latter was my first exposure to the series, I'm sure I would've been flabbergasted even back then, even I would've been able to tell the obvious lack of Game Boy cartridge inside the Game Boy. Not to mention the 7th movie isn't even numbered like all the sequel films prior. I agree, they shouldn't have wasted all their budget on filming in Russia especially since how much it cost so many actors to not return, and how little we saw of the country itself. It is impressive that they were able to make each PA film for every year throughout most of the 1980's, minus 7, but, eventually, the movies started to lose steam, with the first movie being the only one rated "R", and 2 being the only one rated "PG-13", while all the others were rated "PG", and became far more kid friendly. You'd think with all those different sequels there'd be character development up the wazoo, but no, let's just keep reusing jokes for the sake of it, bring in new characters while also ignoring current ones. (This is just a coincidence, but Police Academy 6 came out during the franchise' 5th anniversary, and was already a flop, but Police Academy 7 came out during the series' 10th anniversary, a roughly half-decade between 2 films. You'd think between that 5 year gap there'd be plenty of time for effort, but of course not. 6, and 7 even coincidentally insulted their own respective anniversary years.) I was just speechless by the new Three Stooges clones. They can do awesome things like acrobatics, and, they mostly waste them by just giving them generic foot soldier grunts...? Why? Music always seems to be the 1 saving grace when it comes to awful entertainment. Your rewrite is loads better. The Police Academy series definitely should've long ended with characters fully developed. I'll just stick to the Blu-Ray releases of 1, and 2 (even if there are people that debatably consider the movies getting bad even with 2).

It's such a weird thing where they have this interesting cast. The first film's core is seeing how Mahoney becomes a better person. But they don't think to do that for the other characters. With Mahoney acting as a anchor. The closest we got with that, was Zed.
@kingnewcomer2029 Жыл бұрын
@@rangerreview1780 Yep. And after that, the series just kept getting more, and more kid friendly, awful jokes, constantly bringing in newer characters while at the same time scrapping out older characters, characters not acting like themselves, lack of character development, etc. So much wasted potential with Mission To Moscow, and several of the other sequels prior too. Sorry for the late reply.

Judging by the political aspects of this film, one would PRESUME they would head a more serious direction. But no. Everything smells and feels very direct-to-video from start to finish. It deserve every single penny it lost. Everyone who accepted to be part about this project should feel ashamed, the russian actors included for embarrassing their great nation.
