Like the focus at the end that the sky isn't falling in these rough games. Progress isn't linear. We still need and will have many draft/FA/trade opportunities to make huge talent upgrades after that started with Wemby as 1 guy of a minimum 9 man rotation. Go Spurs Go. This is still minimum a 2026 & realistically a 2027/2028 project to really be so confident in the roster that coaching adjustments are going to be this important to analyze game to game in preparing for a deep playoffs run for example with how Pop tested so many experimental rotations over the years and not always going back to his best lineups until the playoffs

Why Did Mitch not challenge the goal tending call on Vassell? Thats a better question.
@FuMaPeS1014 күн бұрын
They just started scoring 3s for fun like in the first game. Contested or wide open its the same.
@michaelharkins719214 күн бұрын
So Wemby, Sochan, Vassell, Castle, Paul. Is clearly the best line up. Tre, KJ, Champ, all do a great job off the bench. We just need to stop other teams from scoring. Protecting the basket is more important than scoring. Steals, fouls at the right time, try to draw a charge. Jeremy is the only one doing it.

What is getting frustrating is that the spurs keep allowing a role player off the bench from the opposing team to go off. Aldama averages 12.9 PPG and against the spurs he put up 20 and 28.

What you say is not correct, the Grizzlies played with the same number of players in the second game 9 against 9, over 17 minutes. In the first game, roughly the same number of players 9-on-9 over 17 minutes, and a few more at 10 minutes. The problem isn't what you're talking about, but rather a question of shooting accuracy. Where business has been disastrous, they're getting the baskets, the Spurs much less so, and from there, they're flying up the scoreboard.
@williamjohnson712714 күн бұрын
In the post game press conference a reporter asked Mitch why he didn't use a timeout when the grizzlies went on that run. Mitch said he didn't have any to use and that's why he didn't use one. Maybe he didn't have any timeouts to use, but it was early enough in the 2nd half that I'm pretty sure he did have some timeouts left. I would look it up to verify it but I really couldn't be bothered beyond just the thought.
@phoenixkane198614 күн бұрын
Rules say you get seven. You can only use four or less in the fourth quarter. Game log says he had some left so either I don’t understand time out rules, log is wrong or Spurs have some kind of team policy to team some for the fourth quarter. I tend to trust the coach and worry about other things in life.

When you're putting up numbers and scores that it's real close to winning a game and you can't close it then yes that frustrating and pathetic. If you're close enough to have a game like that you're good enough to win so make it happen make it happen Spurs but you can't

The more important moment of the game is at the end of Q2. The Spurs are dominating the game and lead by 10 but Wemby is sent to the bench. Mitch decides to put a smallball lineup with Tre, Vassel, Champagnie, Johnson and Bassey. Memphis puts both JJr and Aldama on the court. Nobody manages to defend on both of them and they are both scoring to finish with only -2. Everytime Mitch uses this smallball lineup, Jenkins answered by putting both JJr and Aldama on the court in both games. The result is definitely in favor of Memphis and Mitch just stayed without any solution. The Spurs cannot play with no PF on the court against these teams with a very strong frontcourt. If Sochan is absent, just put Mamu on the court !!! (as he is the only other PF in the roster !!) And if the advanced stats of Mamu would be terrible, I would understand that Mitch hesitates to use him but look at those stats !! You will see that Mamu is doing a very good year. But, in general, this season, the Spurs frontcourt is not deep enough. If Sochan is injured, Barnes is obliged to play PF (even if he is by far better as SF) and the second unit should play smallball (with a 6.5 player to defend on JJr or Aldama !).

This is a young team with a young Coach. They will make mistakes. I can understand why Branham and Collins are not in the Rotation anymore. I don't trust them too. Cissoko and Ingram are still not ready for NBA Minutes. Maybe you can give Wesley or Mamu some Minutes here and there. But the reason why we just play a small Rotation is because we don't have a deep team.

Mitch has no concept of momentum. Didn't challenge the goal tending block by Vassell, didn't call time out when Grizz went on a run. Bassey was playing good and made an impact late but he took him out to insert Wemby. He's a 1 trick pony with 1 game plan and can't make adjustments. 😢
