Well, the Al Queda rebels may need Russia's help against Israel who's been bombing Syria with impunity and destroying all their military assets and military hardware, quite an insult to these rebels actually lol. While ISrael controls the South, the rebels also need to stave off Turkey and it's proxy militia who controls the North plus the US backed Kurds who controls the East. So the rebels have not won yet, they are surrounded by enemies and would still need to fight and defend against these 3 groups.
