Good points were made in the video. What I got out of it was; ... buying/owning things should serve one's journey. Maybe it's a boat, golf clubs, motorcycle, sports car, music instrument, family cars/vehicle, or home. When one owns something that no longer serves a purpose, the journey, it's time to get rid of it. Lighten the "Burden". Ownership is a burden. All the things I mentioned require maintenance and money to keep them, and one's time. Now I' know you aren't against ownership. Nor am I. But the video got me thinking.... I've lost interest in a couple toys I bought a few years ago. They are just sitting there, a burden. Time to "Lighten the Burden". It just doesn't fit any longer.

Until I retired and decided to live halfway around the planet for a long undetermined amount of time, I didnt understand how my possesions complicated my life and plans. I now appreciate and understand a priests vow of poverty. All the stuff we own distracts us and limits the things we can do. Once I return to the US I will move across the country, and a whole lot of what I own now will not be going with me. For the last year Ive lived happily with nearly nothing.

You're looking at this all wrong. It isn't about "stuff" for people, generally. They build up and buy those houses and get stuff to put in them just because of kids. People looking for purpose tend to (mostly) find it in having kids. To have kids you've got to have a job or business, get married, get a house and fill it with stuff. To bring up kids it has to be a decent neighbourhood, you have to get involved in school committees, you have to have a healthy social circle, you have to have networks and influential or important friends, etc. Bringing up those kids becomes their "purpose" in life - they don't have any other aim but that. It takes up at least 20 years, and for those 20 years they maintain everything and have purpose. When the kids move out, they relax a bit, the house slowly falls off, etc. Then when they die the kids inherit it or whatever, but have left and are repeating the cycle themselves. It goes on forever like this. Nobody is trying to build an empire or even anything enduring. The house can be made of wood, not even bricks, for that reason. The stuff doesn't matter to people. Fulfilling what they see as their life purpose, does.

Scotty shares an unexpected expense related to importing a motorcycle into Mexico and reflects on the transient nature of material possessions. He explores an abandoned house, expressing curiosity about its history and the previous occupant's life based on the items left behind. Scotty reflects on the true value of possessions and encourages letting go of things that no longer serve him. He shares his personal experiences of simplifying his life and contrasts it with the complications of maintaining material possessions. Scotty emphasizes that it's a personal choice and not a judgment on one's worth or accomplishments. Throughout the video, Scotty encourages viewers to reflect on the value of their possessions and the impact they have on their lives.

Couldn't the argument be made that you Sir (and all of us) have benefited from the complicated lives of others? For example without their complicated lives there wouldn't exist motorcycle production or the roads on which to ride them, or the production and transport of fuel that we benefit from no? Not to mention the healthcare necessary to treat your injuries in life or your inevitable care if and when you are aged. In reality all who work contribute to the benefits of advanced society, but those with complicated lives contribute more I think. Food production on that farm led to you and I (and thousands of others) to not needing to be tied down to one place in order to spend 90 percent of our time producing food for ourselves. I for one also prefer infrastructure and the many other things in an advanced society like healthy clean water over a life of subsistence in the jungle. Many in those primitive societies watch their children die at young ages from waterborne illnesses. The discovery and production of Chlorine through complicated lives has virtually eliminated waterborne illness in our society. It does come at a cost of lost freedom, but it also is a source of pride to have contributed so much to our society, and indirectly to our own happiness. I guess I just believe in credit where credit is due.
