Summer 2018 marked the 25-year anniversary of the Clayoquot Sound mass blockades, where over 12,000 people took part in the largest act of civil disobedience in Canadian history to protect the area’s remaining intact ancient forests from logging. 25 years on, old-growth forests in Clayoquot Sound and across BC are still awaiting protection and, on Vancouver Island, thousands of hectares of ancient forest ecosystems are being forever lost to industrial logging each year.
To commemorate these landmark protests, the AFA released a series of films exploring the significance of the War in the Woods of the 80's and 90's, the ecological and economic values of old-growth forests, and the role of Indigenous communities in their protection.
This film, which concludes our series, presents an overview of these issues and the solutions urgently needed to finally protect ancient forests. These solutions, including science-based old-growth protection legislation; policies that ensure sustainable, value-added second-growth forestry; and support for First Nations’ sustainable economic diversification, are fully within reach. They require political will from the NDP provincial government and broad support from British Columbians from all walks of life.
Please help us in calling on the NDP government to finally end the decades-long battle for BC’s ancient forests by sending an instant message at www.BCForestMovement.com today.

I would peacefully place my life on the line anywhere anytime to take a stand for the protection and the much needed immediate legislation needed to conserve these national treasures, our environment and recreational areas for all to enjoy for generations. I also strongly support the cessation of exporting logs and to create a value added industry for implementing a proven sustainable system of use of our forest resources that will protect our forests, create employment and spin off income for other Canadians. It's totally unacceptable, irresponsible and disgraceful to export raw logs (ask anyone except the owner/shareholder in the forest industry) regardless of what trade deals and agreements have been made that are solely influenced by corporations with self interests who influence/dictate policy to our governments.

Amen, @gkbowie1 -- i am with you 110% on every point you make here, being of the utmost importance & urgency for B's policymakers (ie. OUR PUBLIC SERVANTS) & trust we are able to translate our wholehearted support for AFA's crucial work into & actualizing the rightful preservation of our ancient forests via implementation of the proper lasting legislation required.. WITHOUT FURTHER DELAY. We clearly cannot afford to waste any more time discussing/ pondering/ talking about this urgent matter, as saving these forests from further logging is the sole solution which makes sense: Come on @BCNDP your job has been laid out for you in no uncertain terms, it's a no-brainer & your duty to GET IT DONE NOW! (Anything else has zero integrity & will taint your entire political futures with the same blood & shame as that if the Liberals' indecent disloyalty to a thriving sustainable BC..

Anyone who wants to destroy old growth deserves the worst torture and death in existence. Logged forests are unrecognizable from perfect old growth ecosystems.

There is no replacing old growth forests. There should be no need to log something that is not replaceable. It's nothing more then government poor management and corruption.

Where I'm from originally (live in Indianapolis now) the UP of Michigan theres a ton of forest and pockets of old growth sections. The logging boom in the late 1800s and about 60 70 years ago really wiped out I'm sure a ton of old growth. Luckily theres a lot of new growth now
