Yeah the USO rep showed me this app during my transition counseling. It was a great tool to get an idea of what I’ll be making once I retired.

My brother retired as a W-4 Army pilot. He did the Republic of Vietnam, Korea, Germany, and flew other hazardous assignments. My son-in-law did all the nasty assignments like Iraq and Afghanistan. These government criminals can't pay enough for persons with disabilities. I served 33 months and in Vietnam and get $4079.00 month for my disabilities. Nice video. My government health care SUCKS!

Thanks for the comment and to you and your family for your service to our country! I’ve heard stories both very good and terribly bad about gov/VA healthcare. I think it really depends on the location, which is no excuse at all for bad healthcare to our veteran community.

Retired W4 21 1/2 yrs active service. Retired effective 01/01/1991. GRPE $1606.00 - SBP of $104.87 and Fed Tax. Net $1320.24. Now GRPE is $3697.00 - fed tax. No SBP payments. Plus 80% rated disability and Social Security. Retired pay based on last paycheck at 21 1/2 years. The older retirees take a haircut. COLA never caught us up.

Not bad for being able to retire as early as 38 or before 50, although for most if not all it is a well earned pension, and we can never pay you enough for what some of you went through. For those getting out early after one or two enlistments, look into the pay and benefits, as well as relatively early retirement options for public safety careers (police or fire) in a state like Cali.

I think this video should be required viewing for everyone fixing to separate or retire from the military! I went to a pre-retirement briefing, but it wasn’t this detailed, instead it showed us the grim reality of the outside world if you’re without a college degree or highly-demanded trade. Until the year 2004 you could not collect both retirement and disability. That means a paralyzed vet from the Vietnam war and basket case unable to hold a job that was single and no children was collecting $3700 a month. Nowadays that’s just enough for a single person to live comfortably in the cheap parts of the United States. Now you have retired senior enlisted and even some officers drawing 100% and working GS-12 positions living high off the hog! And servicemen need to be educated on how to get disability. I kept getting the runaround for a long time and failed to realize you shouldn’t go to the VA itself for help, but rather get an outside third-party like Disabled American Veterans or the VFW service officers to help you out. and never go to those self-appointed parties like VA claims insider or vet benefits guides! They charge you for a rating! I retired with 30%, but now at 90%. Unless you have a serious disability or disabilities, you have to have a LOT of stuff to be rated on to get 100%! Using VA math, once you cross the threshold of 86% disability or more, every 10% rating only counts as an additional 1%.

As an enlisted, it's not enough for a mortgage in Texas. Good luck if you have young dependents.
@jondstewart
@jondstewart 8 күн бұрын
@@glendacastillo6504 it depends on where you live in Texas and how you want to live. I bought my first home in 2000 as an E5 in San Antonio. Paid $65,000 for it. It was an 1100 square-foot home in an older neighborhood. That same home is worth close to $200,000 today. Today unless you live somewhere like Temple, San Angelo, or Abilene, most Texas cities are expensive, especially Austin.

@@glendacastillo6504 it depends on your lifestyle or what you’re looking for. I live in Alaska and when I retired initially, my mortgage was $500 more a month than what my retirement check was. I was stationed in San Antonio, half my career, and it was dirt cheap living there, but even now the cost of living there has gone up quite a bit
