This week, after decades of signing up to the EU policy of free movement of people, Boris Johnson announced Britain will halt low-paid immigration with just a few exceptions at the margins - and he'll make high-skilled immigration a little easier if you're outside the EU.

There are people who care about finite resources and controlling immigration numbers. There are also those who want people to leave because of a xenophobic attitude ie don't like hearing people on a bus speaking different languages. There are those who think EU migrants and external migrants are the same thing and think Brexit will reduce both. While there are those who are truly racist, some of whom will admit to it while others deny that's the real reason they want immigration reduced and think Brexit should/will decrease the numbers of people of colour. England is one of the most densely populated countries on Earth. The English have already been made a minority of live births in relation to people of foreign extraction; this will also be true for Native UK Britons this decade by 2027. The English will be made a minority of the population in England within 30 years before the half century. Indigenous Britons of the UK will become an absolute minority by 2066 or before, (also the Irish in Ireland). The greatest change to these Islands' population in 6,000 years & not only, in supposed democracies, has it not been proposed to us but a taboo against honestly discussing it was invoked & still holds, let alone there being a democratic mandate for it to occur. There are those who wish to take the moral high road in terms of immigration; surely such people oppose this slow ethnic cleansing on principle. Secondly, barring the Romans - of which there were only a few - all were North Sea peoples, of common bio cultural origins only separated by only a few hundred years & so their genetic difference from the Indigenous Britons is within the range of difference within Indigenous Britons & so within one or two generations are indistinguishable - which is the real meaning of 'assimilated'. As you have people with more distant & different ethno cultural origins it takes an increasing dozens of generations to assimilate & they are currently already here in such numbers that assimilation is impossible without a drastic change to the essence of British nature & culture. Brits have been far more liable to emigrate to the EU 27 (1.5m from a population of 67m) than people from the EU27 have been to migrate here (3m from a population of over 500m). It is a myth that the UK is a popular destination. It is for Indians and Pakistanis but not for most Europeans. The UK was not considered for the European base for Tesla because of Brexit, so that's 10,000 R&D, marketing and manufacturing jobs going to Germany. Advanced opens a new factory near Prague rather than expand in UK. TS Tech in Swindon has 740 jobs dependent on Honda. HSBC are moving 1,000 jobs from Canary Wharf to Paris. Nissan Sunderland lost the production of the new X-Trail. UK inward investment rate has dropped by 25% since 2016. UK job creation rate has dropped by 20% since 2016. We are still in the single market and customs union so the economic effects of Brexit are yet to be fully felt. Project Fear was a stupid attempt by Cameron to get people to vote remain whilst appeasing the ERG by not giving a positive view of the EU.

After the £ collapses as a consequence of exiting the transition without a trade deal, UK has to bend over backwards to attract skilled immigrants. As for the unskilled ones, no one will even be _considering_ immigrating to the UK. So immigration will be a non-issue going forward. Brexit would have automatically solved it, but in a manner few Brexiteers would have anticipated or will like.

Let’s see if British businesses go back to employing British citizens in its IT programmes, or if they'll still out source to India at the loss of British jobs. After all, immigration and 'British jobs for British workers' was the mantra and the key issue in voting leave. Our British businesses are literary full of people from Cigniti, Diligenta, Tata… the list goes on and the irony is that that that they are not as skilled as brits with proper academic qualifications and BCS recognised certifications, but the ‘bean counters’ in businesses seem to put short term gain over long-term resilience. E.g. The RBS data breech? That one was quickly on-shored before customers hot footed it to the ‘home grown’ competition. HSBC is now in reverse gear in China and Lloyds Bank has effectively sold off British pensions and investments to be managed in India by Tata. Of course, you still get the Lloyds Banking Group letter head on your statements, but it should really say Tata. The rationale is obvious. So, the British government - what are you going to do to promote 'British jobs for British workers' - like every other country in the world does?

I disagree with the commentators. Immigration will continue to be a HUGE issue with a sizeable majority of the population. This is because the OVERWHELMING majority of leave voters cited immigration as THE NUMBER ONE ISSUE, as the biggest reason they voted for Brexit, and they will DEMAND that tough immigration rules are RIGIDLY enforced. The typical Leave voter is NOT concerned with NHS staffing, is NOT concerned with a lack of care workers, NOT concerned with a lack of labourers in the construction industry, and NOT concerned with any lack of fruit pickers. Concentrating on high paid skilled immigration creates no incentive to educate and train British young people for the best jobs. In fact it seems quite counter intuitive from, for want of a better word, a nativist point of view. A practical immigration policy should concentrate on attracting/permitting foreign workers to where they are immediately needed, irrespective of 'skill level' or wage packet. In fact, to not do so actually seems quite arbitrary. The agricultural and caring industries are in danger of seeing a shortfall and by the criteria being mooted, the supply of labour will be limited. Also the issue of pressure on services and housing are very serious but the two factors which are in danger of being overlooked are the cuts to local government finance and internal UK migration. There is a surplus of housing in the deindustrialised north. Redistribution of economic activity and solving regional inequality (the worst in Europe), would address many of these legitimate concerns about squeezed resources.

The English will be made a minority of the population in England within 30 years before the half century. Scotland has loads of space and comparatively few foreigners currently - if you took all of ours you'd be an immediate minority & we'd quickly see how long your claimed virtue if openness would last.
