We live for the resume, but we are left with the eulogy. Goals are good. Accomplishments are amazing. But at the end of our lives, the Who we have become will be vastly more important than the What that we have done.
Please subscribe to our newest KZbin channel "Sundays with Ascension": ( / @sundayswithascension ). Starting this Sunday, August 28th, Fr. Mike's Masses will be streaming there along with Sunday reflections and more.

Hopefully nothing, I won’t be having a eulogy as part of my funeral mass! It shouldn’t be there. As a wise priest said: if you’re talking about someone who has died in the past tense, you’ve lost your faith. Love to you, Fr Mike 🙏

Thank you for this homily. The priest at my parish completely side-stepped the readings today and went off-topic with his homily. I guess he figured the Gospel reading was too much for my fellow parishioners.

Last night I found out Dot died. She was like extended family to me even though not a single one of the persons I know her through are actually kin. It's funny how you can feel connected to ppl you've only spent time with in passing. You keep up with them and they keep up with you even though you spend no real, significant earthly time together. It's just odd those kind of connections. Here I am all deeply saddened and upset that she died and, yet, there I am, too, barely able to remember what her face looks like. She was one of those ppl I just liked and that's all there was to it. There didn't have to be anything more. It was an unspoken thing. Ppl kept me up on her cause they knew I liked her without me having to say anything about it. I don't know what ppl will say at my Eulogy. If I even have one..., I'm still rooting for an assumption if I can't do the ascension on my own volition. This could be a fun found art project. As everyone is out and about write down the random things ppl say about you and write up a mock Eulogy for yourself. I would start mine with something this guy I was training the other day said: "Everyone here says you're super anal and real nit-picky..., you're not anal or any of that! You just like to get your work done right. You're doing it the way it's supposed to be done"! He was all shocked sounding. lol. Friggin' Tucson. You stand out here as "anal" when you follow the proceedures dictated by Accounting... 🤣 Ppl are gonna say and think all kinds of stuff, smh. I only pay attention to what lifts up and sits right with my soul for doing and/or for not doing. What anyone says about it changes with time and place.

Father Mike, you speak of our eulogy saying that after our life is lived all that's left is what people say about us, i.e. our eulogy. The Catholic Church believes we can get to Heaven by our works which according to God's written word is NOT true and now you're saying it matters what people say about us /about our life after we're gone. Another flawed statement...bcuz it only matters what Jesus says about us when we stand in judgement before him. I think it better that you open The Bible and preach from it. When I was Catholic I was never taught The Bible..but PRAISE BE TO GOD, I'm learning it now. And as I learn I remember how full you church was with psychology and philosophy -man's "wisdom"- not God's. So sad. I pray for all my family and friends and all Catholics that The Holy Spirit remove their spiritual blindness. 🙏✝️🙏✝️🙏

“We need to be the party of nationalism and I’m a Christian, and I say it proudly, we should be Christian nationalists.” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) “I’m tired of this separation of church and state junk - that’s not in the Constitution.” Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) Lauren Boebert calls for laws to enforce "biblical citizenship training" in our schools. “We’re not bending the knee to the two percent anymore,” said Andrew Torba, founder of the right-wing-friendly social platform Gab, referring to Jewish people in the United States. Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser, told a Christian gathering last November, “If we are going to have one nation under God, which we must, we have to have one religion. One nation under God and one religion under God.” The 10-year-old Ohio girl who crossed state lines to receive an abortion in Indiana should have carried her pregnancy to term and would be required to do so under a model law written for state legislatures considering more restrictive abortion measures, according to the general counsel for the National Right to Life. Former President Donald Trump said during a speech on Saturday that "Americans kneel to God" alone, as the concept of Christian nationalism continues to gain traction among conservatives. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is attended a rally in Pennsylvania with state Sen. Doug Mastriano. Mastriano has praised Andrew Torba, the founder of Gab and a self-described Christian nationalist. Desantis is the most insidious of them all because he knows better. The Trump-Republican Taliban and the majority of Christians want to force their delusions and hatred upon everyone! When the Civil War starts will you choose America or Theocracy?

People dismissing your superstitions and how you feel about it is irrelevant in a free society! Get over it snowflake!! Mrs Clark. Same thing here because I will need every single prayer. I was actually thinking about setting aside some money to have masses said for my soul in the TLM, I think it’s Gregorian Masses or requiem masses (not sure of the name but I know it’s 30 masses said for my soul once I’m dead). I kind of want to write my own eulogy pleading with people to pray for me and then have a portion from The Four Last Things read describing what Purgatory is like.

I'm 51. I was kind of wondering what you would talk about, here. I'm in the midst of planning my second marriage. The next big plan, according to my friend, Mike that I met at a Catholic bar owner's pub: have a good second marriage. The next big plan will be your funeral. I don't really worry about what the priest will say. But I know what I want my headstone to say: Mom, wife of two, consecrated lay woman of the Holy Roman Catholic Church. I did say to my second husband to be: I don't care if we adopt a pack of kids or I'm given the gift by God's Amazing Grace of having a whole litter of our own, he will have to move to wife # 3 to help raise those kids. I'm older. He's younger. To me, that's a good man, because I want to live like this. I live to help my own kids, everyone who asks me for help, and just to Love Jesus.

THE GOSPEL Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: - 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4 KJV Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. - John 15:13 KJV SAVALATION For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. - John 3:16 KJV For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:17 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. - John 14:6 KJV Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. Romans 5:10 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. - Isaiah 53:5 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. - Mark 1:15 KJV

Well actually I believe that everything in this world perishes this includes the memories people have of you because eventually people die any any memories of you will eventually be forgotten about in this world. What matters is how you are remembered in the afterlife in which God remembers everything you had done or not done this includes the saints who remember what you had or hadn't done for them while you were with them during your time in this world. Remember the martyrs will want vengeance upon those who slain them from God. I think to better understand what matters is not placing so much effort to better yourself but rather what you do for other people like showing kindness to people and charity.

Then there is a another matter within our Holy Religion that appears to be the Devil working through Pope Francis, with some of his questionable appointments, but particularly the tamping down of the Traditional Latin Mass. I appreciate that you have your primary vocations, as I have been told by the Ascension folks, but if you would or can, please, I pray, address this sad situation that feels like it is gaining momentum and dividing our church like no other time in history.
