Thanks for this video... playin wotlk fresh start and I love warriors... started a rogue because it sounded like warriors just weren't up to the task, but this video highlighting the strengths of the war in wotlk instead of the weaknesses has convinced me to give them a go. Even if I don't end up MT in any raids, it sounds like a top pick for dungeons.

The only problem a Prot Warrior will have is finding a raid inviting you. That problem however, gets neglected when you make your own raid :) Everything else is doable and people should still play Prot Warrior if that's the most fun tank for they. Prot Warrior is actually for people who like to tank over dpesing, because is the most complex tank class in WOTLK, if you can tank with Prot warrior, everything else is just easy.

Holding threat on multiple mobs aid soooo much easier in wrath as a prott warrior Also with the amount of CD upgrades it becomes a very good tank for surviving bosses who have one shot kill abilities or moments when they enrage for a short while. Played it back in the day all the way to lick king and it was great

Pwarr is a pvp class in WotLK. Two minor pieces of t10 tanking gear, two major ones for DPS, you get the medallion if you need it, the rest are all DPS items. You blow people up after having stacked ARPEN, it's ridiculous, Shield Slam goes through for like 20k damage against platers in Wrathful.

20k is a bit much against someone with ~1k resilience, at least in an arena setting. Your higher end crits will end up anywhere from 8-10k in S8.

i can see from this that u play on warmane xD kekl... anyway....This is so true and so NOT true... u can hit hard as warr that true, but for 20k dmg on 0 resil target u need full 25 man buffs!!! Prot warr abilities are based on attack power so armor penetration works very well... but ... w/o many buffs and on target with 1000-1400 resil u will not hit over 4k... U talking about full pve prot warr with STS and DBW vs ppl with pvp rele/furius gear .... make it real... imagine 6.5k gs pve geared sub rogue with pvp talents meet u, and u have trinket on cd... he will crash ur game how much dps u will get...fatal error... aslo if u dont kill s priest or affi lock on burst during chain lock...u dead...u fight with 400 resil or even less, u hit hard, but vs magical dmg u have only spell reflect which have CD ... its all perfect JUST while u have all your def CDS and spells avalivable to use... Also prot warr is disaster in arena 2v2... I wont even comment that u said prot warr is just pvp class in wotlk, u know nothing about pve and prot warr....

From the beta... arms/prot is now what fury/prot was back in vanilla. It's easily going to be the fastest levelling tank. Not clear currently how well this will scale into raiding but for 5m and 5m heroics its at least as good as the others. You can stance dance for sweeping strikes on CD, use cleave as a rage dump and revenge hitting multiple targets on CD. You also have all the shield abilities and mitigation and can probably out dps most of the dps at the same time. It wasn't a thing afaik back in OG wrath but it sure is a thing now.

I think I'll play prot in wrath classic for sure, but it will be an offspec. Like not even in the dual spec set up, that will be arms for pve and arms for pvp. But rather just for "oh we need a tank for a 10 man or a heroic and everyone has their paladin/dk locked? Okay I can fill in" kinda thing

I would love for you to try the Unrelenting Assault Arms tank build. Revenge cooldown gets reduced to 1-second, and procs free Hero strikes when Glyphed. I believe it completely solves any threat issues a warrior may have, and puts it above or next to feral tanks.

It really urks me when people say Prot Warrior single target threat is the worst of all 3 tanks in TBC. Im not here to tell you its better than a geared bear, but its right behind him. Even on undead target, with 4pc t6 has a Prot Paladin out done me in single target threat. 20% crit unbuffed, 2/2 impale and you're good to go as a Prot Warrior for threat.

@@undertyped1 In TBC they have the best defensive CDs and the 2nd best single target threat. They're in a decent spot where they have their own niche. In WoTLK you're going to see speed run comps in Naxx with Prot Warriors due to their explosive threat. Then can unload all their threat on a pack of mobs better than any other class. Shockwave, Revenge, Tclap and sunders make them valuable. Later on they disappear sure, but if you enjoy playing one they're super fun in Wrath.

as someone who has also played all three tanks. warriors are fun to play but terrible compared to druids and pally. i 100% did not find it easier to hold threat single target compared to my pally. my pally out threat my warrior single target by a lot in every metric: burst threat and sustained threat without sacrificing nearly as much mitigation as my warrior has to

I will say that Prot Warriors are shit on way too much. My ICC25 raid team back in the day had a prot warrior as my off tank, he did his job just fine with very few issues. I think the private servers have skewed perceptions over the years, from the tier rankings that is not how I remember things being back then. They don't have things tuned 100% to how retail was and people will see that once the official servers come out and people actually raid with these classes.

Warrior has always been my favorite tank. I tanked a lot in wotlk with dk as well which was hella fun (stacking dodge Nd perry stats) but nothing beats the ol'standard sword Nd board warrior tank

A little rant: My experience from wotlk private servers is that warriors become even less wanted as prot pve wise. Compared to other classes they dont have that much hp , cooldowns, unique buffs, threat is lower even with a slow dps weapon. They are not bad but since we are limeted to 2 tanks most of the time any other classes have higher chances to get a spot. Blood/frost dk have a lot of buffs cds and one insane aggro spell and a baseline 2min defensive cooldown for which we have to spend 2 talents and a glyph and theirs are still better. Druids have a bunch of armor and hp, they are easy to heal and have creazy dmg since their talent tree is a dps one too. Palas are easier to play, have argent defender to mitigate a certain death, their aggro is not tided to their weapon anymore(they dont have to gave a spellpower one) , resist auras, aoe mitigation cd.. unique buffs, and since 2pala is must you can have a prot and a holy to cover the main buffs and auras. Warriors however much more likely to get a spot if they are fury. But i must admint i love to play my prot warrior, they are incredible mobile and if you know what you doing, they can be realy helpful with intervene/safeguard. And shockweave is amazing in paper but makes your dmg shield useless since it stuns the adds and the dps not gonna wait while you thunderclapping them only.. every other classes have a better verison of our spells safeguard is nice but bop is better, in wotlk a lots of adds are undead so unholy wrath is the same except that is a baseline spell for all palas. To increase our dmg we have to take 20 more, not like the wings that palis got. Dks have anti magic shell, we have spell reflect which is useless for bosses. Our critical shielding talent is rng and wont do much against bosses heavy slow attacks.. And so on. Prot pvp is amazing however, especially with lots of armorpen. We cant really be killed and can dash to safety is things go wrong. Spell reflect is just super annoying to play against and so on. So play fury if you want to pve.

My experience on private servers is quite the opposite I find a well skill warrior tank can just be as good as any class. Its a higher skill ceiling and a personal taste but they are more then viable.

It sounds like your experience was with shit warrior tank, since warriors literally have the best ST threat, tied with DK, but Vigilance makes them go slightly ahead. (Why would you think spec that hits for 10K with Revenge and Shield Slam have shit threat, also Vigilance that literally takes 10/15% threat off the person that has it) Regarding HP you should probably look at tank sets comparing Pally/DK/Warr HP on Eightyupgrades when warriors have consistently 1-2K more HP over Pally whole expansion and same as DK. That is just HP as obviously paladin and DK are tankier with more and better defensive cooldowns, talents and raid utility. As warrior you just have to communicate for externals and swap glyphs around for shorter cooldowns. They're more than fine, if you're decent player, and you can clear all the content without making your raid perform worse.

Ok no points in rage related talents you honestly won't need it in dungeons and raids you'll be at 100 rage basically 85% of the time simply through blocking and charge. Don't put the points in disarm as a vast majority of bosses can't be disarmed in fact skip that whole row you won't need them. Basically 15/3/52 is a good distribution. Vigilance is basically free threat especially if you have a warlock in your group who spams dots and generates alot of threat or a party member who like to rush in a pull without the tank it can help salvage a messy pull.

I love prot warrior. I started to play tbc and wow for the first time over a year ago, and I only played as dps. I never commited to tanking because I felt like I would just be really bad at it since I never tanked in the past and prot warrior seems to be the most complicated out of the three tanks. I respecced yesterday and I‘ll main prot warrior from now on, I don‘t care about the meta, it‘s the most fun tank and tanks are cool as hell with their shields

I am a bit worried about prot warrior in WOTLK. As you, that is my prefered tank class but all videos I have seen so far are putting the prot warrior in last position in the tank meta. By the way, I do not think you should neglect Vigilance. It seems to me that it provides free threat as you gain 10% of the threat generated by the player you put vigilance on.

Here to maek you feel better. Warrior is either best or second best boss tank in pretty much every situation. The problem wasn't that warrior was bad at tanking, it's that warrior doesn't provide a lot of tools for the raid. No blessings, no judgement, etc. That's why paladin is great, it's not that paladin is a straight up better tank.

Worry not. In practice for speed running heroics and pugging raids, warrior is if not the best, really close to it. Besides if you like to pvp and tank in pve, thats your best bet.

Depends in what sort of gear the rest of the group has, you'll probably do fine with ZA, t5 gear unless some pumper dps in your group can't control themselves then you'll need bt/swp gear

I disliked all talent versions, I use my own talents and I almost never reduce tanking talents for dmg ones. The main trick is to put vigilance on hight threat targets like balance druids, arcane mages, fury warriors, affliction warlocks or something like that.

By far the warrior is the best heroic speed clear tank if done right. That and the aoe classes lick their lips to see big numbers with all of the mobs. With the amount of control the prot warrior has it's a no brainer that it's the most fun and challenging. Prot Paladin can be played with minimal brain cells, but is boring af Imho. Personal preference I guess.

The enrage from prot does not stack with the fury tree enrage. They apply the exact same enrage buff, it's just not clear in the descriptions of each.

These talents are so bad and so wrong.... Its more like u made spec for pvp .... but since we talk about pve (specifically in end game wotlk (Toc, icc and rs )) Which boss u mean to disarm ??? Also theres no boss that require [Improved Disciplines], u will use it once per fight no matter what. Your job as tank is to keep agroo, second job is to INTERUPT, so DPS dont have to do that ! [Concussion Blow] & [Gag Order] IS A MUST ! Skipping [Vigilance] mby can work, but u will need to cry to hunters to MD u all the time, so they cant help off tank to pick up some adds or second boss during encouter, also rogues will need to TOT u all the time instead tot each other to increase dmg. Also once u meet SM warrior u can say goodbay to agroo w/o vigi on him.... [Safeguard] are u joke ??? what u gonna do with that ??? Intervene pala tank during he MT some boss to get 1 hit on you ? Mby can help on Sindi during switch in last phase...but u risk 2 much, cause healers must be prepare for it or u will die.... [Death Wish]?! U are not dps + u will get 5% increase dmg to yourself, that u dont need since u are tank and u focus to that u get less dmg u can get ....whats to point to increase boss dmg on you ??? Shockweave is a must ! Also theres no way u will keep agroo for AOE w/o [Deep Wounds]....Keep in mind that prot warrior is most difficult tank in WOTLK, i rly dont recomend to start tank as warr if u dont have expirience with other tank class, u will disapoint yourself and everybody in dung or raid around you.... go for DK or Pala u will have fun... make warr ALT if u rly like warr, and start slowly u will understand all of this over time.
