This video explores a hypothetical conventional arms war between the whole of EU and the US. Who could do more damage to the other side? And how would that war go? Which territories could be lost and how many troops might perish? All is touched upon and analyzed. In this first part the setup and the war in the Atlantic is the main focus.
The second and concluding part can be watched here: • EU vs US: Hypothetical...

You said no other countries, but pulling greenland into the conflict would force Canada to pick a side. Canada has just as much pressencse in green land as the USA. This would also probably panic Northern Ireland(EU) as it would position them as a staging ground. Its impossible to think Britian would be able to cope with any of that situation. They can't afford a war on their shores but if Canada sided with the USA they'd probably have to follow us into a war with Europe again.

Taking Ireland would be stupid anyway. They've already got a history of throwing down against invaders and conquerors - like England - and even against themselves for something as stupid as religion - that's why there's a North Ireland. Better to just hammer their military capability using our hideously bloated whale carcass of a defense budget. Really though the likelyhood of this ever happening (even if Trump had a second term, say) is statistically insignificant - at least so long as Russia still has a competent and antagonistic leader (Putin or someone like him), China still has more money and manpower than god, and the Middle East is still a tinderbox where it isn't already actually on fire.

@paul Provenzano You forget that there are systems in Germany that can take out ballistic missiles relatively easily. Furthermore, German aircraft, for example, have far better air-air missiles than the Americans, which are of course passed on to alliance partners in the event of war. And the Americans would be doing a lot right now to get the German AAM's technology. The German submarines are also quite difficult to detect. I refer to an exercise by the Americans and Germans, where the Americans wanted to practice their submarine defense and the Germans suddenly came with the reports that they have just sunk half of your ships. The problem would still be that a war cannot be won by air strikes alone. Of course they pave the way, but if they are destroyed by European systems before, it would be a lost war. To bring troops to Europe you need the sea route and imagine how many soldiers would die if you would sink the American ships all one after the other. I mean, experiences were already made with this in the First and Second World Wars.

He discarded many strategic keys to give favorable odds to the US from the beginning. He forgot many Europeans are Slavic in the East and even thought they fear Russia's belligerence in the real world, in the fictional scenario the imminent menace are the US, so these countries would flex their diplomacy with Russia which would be directly interested to lend them a hand under the table.

Having a billion people doesn't really matter if half of them spend their time harvesting rice with their bare hands from flooded rice patches. Development of a countries population is much more important then it's population size. We've seen this in WWII with how far the German military advanced into the soviet Union. The soviet had a massive man advantage, but most of their troops were ill equipped, poorly trained, poorly fed and sometimes only partially armed. The same thing happend late in the war with the German army on the western front, where American troops outclassed the German forces in every aspect, as german equipment was cought up in the Eastern theatre with garrison troops and outdated equipment being stationed at the western front and Atlantic Wall. The takeaway here is: Numbers don't matter that much. What matters are the multipliers. How well can the effect of a single unit be amplified by it's equipment, intelligence, strategies, tactics and supplies. A squad of elite infantry could beat a division of militia, as has been seen in some firefights in Afghanistan during the German and Canadian deployments there. The whole is more then the sum of it's parts.

@germantopgametv - Very true. I mean the English subjugated the entire Indian subcontinent with a paltry force. Experience counts in a war too. Say what you want about the US military but they're the only army in the world to have combat experience from its lowest ranking NCOs to its highest ranking officers. You'll have people knock the US for getting bogged down in Afghanistan and Iraq but those people miss the point - the US is involved in police action in those states, not all out combat. The convemtional US military in a straight up fight would roll over just about any combination of forces you can out in its way.

@House Plant - The US hasnt been in any wars in the middle east - Afghanistan and Iraq (the 2nd time around) are occupations, not wars. You could say the US fought in the Middle East for a couple weeks, in Iraq in both 1991 and 2003, Afghanistan doesn't even count, but after that all the US military was trying to do is pacify two populations who didn't wanna be pacified. Thats not war - that's babysitting.

@Octavian Ordinarily the UK does police Irish airspace but in this wacky war scenario that is unlikely to continue. The UK has some of the finest military forces you'll find in Europe but it won't change the inevitable defeat for the EU. Both the EU & US are unreliable allies and there isn't really anything to gain sending UK service personnel to die for either side. It would be far more sensible to just sell arms to both sides and rake in as much cash as possible from this mess.

I can't see Ireland being opposed to US. 3. If there was a war US v EU, I would be AMAZED if UK were neutral. Instead the UK would be the US unsinkable aircraft carrier and its base to attack the EU. 4. Not being biased, but a clear cut victory would go to the U.S. Military in just about every category. More numerous, better technology, better production as well as completely independent in its military production. If it were an actual war, and doesn’t have a strong orientation towards ethics, it would be completely one sided.
@Aegis-_-

@@EmperorLionflame You do realize the United States military technology far succeeds Europe’s? That’s not even including secret military technology kept from the public. And if ethics were kept aside, the United States could bomb all the UK into oblivion from guided missiles 1500 nautical miles away? You’re literally unmatched in every way, and that’s including nuclear bombs (cause if you include that the war would be over within hours as the EU has surrendered all little nuclear weapons it has). Even the US’s shear numbers would be enough. Also, US does not have any core systems that rely on Europe, as all essential and major economic trade is outsourced to other countries. Not you. However, EU has a hard reliance on US for many natural resources needed for production

Ireland would be strategically important with the UK as a neutral country. The UK acts as an Eastern shield. That means any attack from anywhere but Spain or Portugal would have to go around the UK. So Ireland as a staging area for the invasion of the European mainland makes strategic sense.

An issue with the neutrality of the UK. To supply Ireland, the EU would either take a large detour so they don't go into UK waters or traverse through UK waters, which would bring problems. The UK currently also defends Irish airspace, so aerial attacks on Ireland by the US would be trouble for the UK. The fact that not only is Northern Ireland is part of the UK, but is also part of the island of Ireland would be a political and military nightmare for both sides of the conflict and the UK And let's not forget the US troops stationed in Britain. It would be difficult for Britain to remain neutral for an extended period of time. I think towards the end, the UK might act as a broker of peace terms or at least a ceasefire.
