Me and my son met Martin at the British Grand Prix in about 2006, my son asked for an autograph but we didn’t have a pen between the three of us, Martin said we should come back with a pen after qualifying and he would signed an autograph, we turned up and through a crowd we saw Martin looking around for somebody, he spotted us and came straight over and asked if we had a pen and signed Joe’s race programme, we are still amazed by his kind gesture and still can’t believe that he remembered us and stood by his word, what an absolute gentleman.

Synthetic fuels are still a long way off I think. The cars will get slightly lighter with the removal of the mgu h which will also make them louder. Though the battery getting bigger will add back some of the weight. The size is partly a side effect of safety as you need space to crumple and absorb energy or we'd return to the dark days of drivers being serious injured or worse, same is true for modern road cars. It is not the crash that kills, but the rapid deceleration mincing organs. So I can't see how cars get smaller by too much. Perhaps easier to make tracks bigger I guess.

I was at Spa, when Martin drove the Williams, due to Mansell being injured or ill, and I can still remember taking a sharp intake of breath when he went flat out through Eau Rouge, in the wet. He was a vey talented driver and, given the right car, could have won the world championship. He also battled it out with Senna, in F3. Top man.
@jamesdyer79602 ай бұрын
It's not often mentioned by Martin but the legacy of his '84 Tyrrell smash held him back. Same with Johnny, whom Martin, Damon etc all say is the British WDC we never had because of his F3000 Brands Hatch injuries. The kids who watch these days and make sweeping comments about 'average Brundle' or 'rubbish Herbert' don't have a clue about the risks drivers involved back then of there was even a medium level shunt let alone a big one. It maddens me (as i'm sure it still does Martin) that Flav dropped him for Patrese for '93 but also just how close he was to getting Mansell's drive in the Williams only for SFW to plump for Damon in the end... Sliding doors and all that.
@geofffield64932 ай бұрын
Yes, I also remember Johnny’s accident at Brands - it looked unsurvivable, but he did, thankfully. F1 cars were not a good vehicle to have an accident in during the 60’s to 80’s, as a lot of talented drivers died in what would be a “walk away uninjured” scenario today. Roger Williamson, Jochen Rindt, Ronnie Peterson, Francois Cevert and Gilles Villeneuve all immediately come to mind, but there were many more, sadly.

14:38 Gerhard Berger has the best Eddie Jordan story ever told: Once in the early 2000s (either 2002 or 2003, I don't exactly remember) Eddie Jordan and Ron Dennis were flying back to the UK together with Gerhard Berger on his plane, who was the head of motorsport for BMW at the time. Before they took off Gerhard made a BMW employee print out a fake engine supply contract between BMW and Minardi, which would grant the Italian backmarkers exclusive customer status. He then put that paper in his briefcase and on the plane he made sure that it sticks out a bit for Eddie and Ron to see, while Gerhard went to see the pilot. Eddie took the bait, sniffing a chance to get out of his engine contract with Ford and get the best V10 on the grid. So he kept nagging Gerhard for HOURS(!) to reconsider and give the BMW engines to Jordan instead. Back in the UK, Eddie didn't want to give up and went to Bernie Ecclestone to ask for help in trying to persuade Gerhard into giving Eddie the BMW engines. Bernie immediately called Gerhard to do something about this pesky irishman in his office. Gerhard couldn't keep his scheme alive anymore and told them it was all just a hoax 😂Unsurprisingly, Eddie wasn't quite as amused as Gerhard was about this situation.

Seeing EJ make a 180° turn, suddenly forgetting all about Ford and not being able to sleep for hours was quite a nice picture for Berger.

100% time to admit the hybrid era was a chapter... that is now over. Make cars lighter + smaller and noisier!
@bionicgeekgrrl2 ай бұрын
Manufacturers won't want it as they're moving all of their road cars to hybrid and electric, especially in Europe. If f1 is no longer relevant to the road then they walk away and then you have no f1. Love or hate it, hybrid is here to stay and its at least getting some of the engine noise back in '26 with theremoval of the mgu h, which is effectively a big muffler. Never going to sound like the v12s or turbo v8s, but should be a bit better. The Manufacturers are all working on making batteries smaller, lighter and especially greener and its the best option currently as hydrogen is still a deadend due to cost and efficiency and efficiency pressurised storage being a potential crash hazard. Synthetic fuels may change that for racing but we're still a long way from that being viable for f1.

Martin is the best. Says it as it is without bias. He’s been there, done it and has respect of the drivers.

Martin is the best, there's no else like him! I have been watching F1 for a long time and his color commentary along with David Croft are some of my best memories of watching F1 races!

We're so lucky to have Martin commentating, he cheated death so many times. He's been there, done that, and bought the t-shirt.

Martin is a legend. Thank you for all the memories over the years! Look forward to many more races hearing you commentate on!

Martin Brundle should have win 2+ F1 World Championship"s 🏆🏆 very gifted driver !!!!!!!!
@jamesdyer79602 ай бұрын
Even he would think that a bit of a stretch. However he was certainly good enough for several wins when you look at some of his contemporaries who won a load.

We dont have Sky TV now and I miss Martin lots for his amazing commentary , I get the "other " UK highlights show which is dire tbh, but I get to see EVERY lap of Moto GP so im still happy :)

My favourite F1 commentator of all time. It’s a shame Martin has to share the job with Crofty, who is the worst ever. So bad I’ve stopped watching Sky and pay for the F1 app just so I don’t have to listen to David Croft anymore.
@IMHAVINHOOPS2 ай бұрын
Crofty is awful. David Addison would be my choice, but then, I don’t want to lose him from BTCC.

I'd bring back v8 or v10 engines instead of v6 and ban some rules like: - moving unter braking - no refueling during race - refuelling before the feature/sprint race - virtual safety car - no cursing on team radio
@steve61212 ай бұрын
On this particular occasion, I would ban David Croft. And on any other occasion, particular or not.

Ban billionaires from having a say in how any of it is ran. Force them to work on such strict limits that billionaires are no longer interested in the sport and it opens back up to real people.

Met Martin at Silverstone and had my photo taken with him, shortly by chance after I read his book what a legend. Think he was watching his son racing and managed to catch him in the paddock.
