All of that has happened, and I carry all that stuff. What’s fun is grabbing g your backup guitar and not remembering, after the song started, that it’s tuned differently. Breaking a string on your our backup guitar, that’s another fun one. Forgot my strap, had to use a small rope I found backstage. And finally, I just plain forgot my amp. Fortunately we set up early and I could drive back and get it. Good times, great show, jack.

A little more work, especially for old guys like me, but the extra guitar(s) and back-up amp hits home with me..good practical easy fix. Thanks!

Did my first event as a brand, the fretboard summit, and I had an emergency bag with a soldering iron, solder, wire, tools, an extra set of tubes, a couple extra cables etc. plan to add a few more items before I do another event.

In-ears in case there are not enough monitors. Earplugs for when your drummer has to let some emotions out and goes tribal. Nose plugs in case you need to use the venue's microphone. Duct tape for the guitar strap plugs that have fallen out. Sunglasses to hide the tears when everything has gone wrong. Some more tips: carry all of your stuff in one bag so that if you forget the bag you can experience what real anxiety is. Before the gig: set up your complex rig and test it out before the show, dial in your settings, then don't touch it. Make sure the amp or pedal knobs haven't moved or you get it back to the right settings before you start playing. Point the amp at your face so you can hear that you're playing a trebly amp with the bass on 0 and treble on 10. Have a gig checklist so you don't forget anything.

This is also true of filmmaking. People weren't there on the day to know that your lens was cracked or that people were sick or that you had bad weather. The filmmakers always need to be thinking about the audience's experience. And I found this to be true since I started doing live music, too. So, in short, I agree with your dad :)

Funny story - I played in a power rock trio with a few quite older guys some years ago. Caught them popping pills before the gig and I got worried - they said “here man, take one of these, you’ll feel amazing.” It was Motrin 😂

I keep an IR pedal on my board. It stays off unless the amp dies, then it takes almost no time to keep the show moving. I just need to turn it on and have the soundman plug me in direct.

During my venues in theater (11 shows in Paris) everything was fine. Hopefully because I have brought only one guitar and one amp (tone master, no tubes) I have brought extra cables, strings and lights to see my tab.

Apart from not forgetting my tuner and guitar, I make sure to always bring my crew and film crew on my first and on any gig. That will be my best advise.

would also include, super glue. leatherman (bonus points if your holster has a pocket for extra driver heads.) flash light. electrical tape. also, the vehicle you came in should have at least a basic tool kit in it. may not be much use in the middle of a show, but during setup, or break down, remember it's there.

Fuses, if your amp use’s them. Easy to replace. Also, a small towel. Good for sweaty hands or forehead. A bottle of water won’t hurt. Also lots of picks. Someone always needs a pick.

Q. What do you need to bring to your first gig? A. Some talent Here’s the thing though - you don’t need much, just enough to get by! We all have to start somewhere! 🎸🙂
