Think of it more of like looking through a cloud llit by the city lights vs being in a light polluted area or not. Example, I live near the beach in a heavily populated area. Now when I look at the sky over the city I can't see anything except the brightest stars. But If I look out to the beach over the ocean where there are no lights I can see everything. Now If I move far from the beach to the otherside of the city and try to see the stars over the beach looking through the sky over the city then it will be hard to spot anything. So, if you're on the mountains where there isn't light pollution then your target also should be over an area without light pollution. So, for you straight up is the best area as there is nothing to prevent you from seeing

Years ago when I was around 5 years old in london there were millions of stars✨ but now I don’t even see them anymore I remember seeing this it was amazing it really shows how much damage humans have done to this planet
@EricT37692 ай бұрын
On a clear, dark night, the human eye can only see about 6,000 stars. On average about 2,000. Not millions.

i live right next to louisville international airport, i remember as a child, my friend who was staying overnight asked "hey...why does it not get dark here?" "huh?" "i can still see the trees, why does it not get dark?" 😅. been to the grand canyon once, i can remember the awe i felt seeing so many tiny dots in the sky, usually i can only make out larger singular stars. when there's snow, the light reflecting off it lets u make out everything in the neighborhood as if it were almost day, its the most uncanny feeling

Omg, I need to see that for two reasons. One: I'm obsessed with astronomy. Two: I have always wanted to see so many stars. Also was this in the northern or southern hemisphere, in summer or winter?
@4PRKB Жыл бұрын
same 😭
@yeetoburrito7 ай бұрын
Northern Hemisphere, you can very easily recognize Perseus, Taurus and Andromeda which are all northern constellations. As for time it depends. Judging from the position of the Pleiades and Ahlpa Persei clusters, this is looking eastward and the constellations shown are rising. If this takes place just after sunset, then its in October. If its just before dawn, then its June/July, so the range would be roughly June to October

I from NYC, born and raised in Greenwich village and the only time I got to see all the stars was at the Hayden planetarium when I was a kid. Joined the Marine Corps in 1987 and in 1989, was stationed at 29 Palms California. First time I got to stand in the Mojave and see the night sky was breath taking. Not to take anything away from the good people and the technology of the Hayden planetarium but there’s just no way to capture the realty. Great video , great memory ! Thanks for it ! 🤙🏻👊🏻

Look at the night sky in the California desert (NTC) while wearing night vision goggles. It’s this sky x100. Stars take up every part of the sky. It’s beautiful

When I was in the army doing training to be a truck driver. One of the classes was at night to train on what's called blackout driving. No lights and all you have on is night vision goggle. I remember when I put it on and looked up at the night sky the whole sky was covered in glitter! It was the most amazing sight and I realized how little of the stars we see in the night sky. It was truly breathtaking
