Well said Don, I appreciate the back story on the Weldon Flat, some also confuse Weldon flats with Whistle Notch, which are distinct in their application with their 2degree side lock styles. Have you ever come across applications that were solved by finding this confusion?

You twice said "condoning" (what I heard and the caption) - meaning, to allow cutting your flat, so "not condoning" means you are "condemning" or "forbidding" the practice, which is not what I think you mean. Would it be possible to grind a shallow V or dish shape, so that the screw rests on both sides and the mill cannot move in either direction in or out? Also since the carbide mill could possibly chip where contacted, could we make the set screw with a soft point so it can give a more spread out contact area?

That was a good catch. I noticed I said that when I was editing. Sometimes my mouth goes faster than my brain!😂. I did mean Condemning. And to answer your question. The holder will accommodate a V notch flat that will keep your carbide tool more secure. As long as you modify the set screw it would work well. Just remember good notch placement for maximum rigidity. Thanks for the comment. Ctc

How to grind weldon flat?, grinding wheel leave radius on it
@CuttingtoolCounselor Жыл бұрын
It is really all in the Grinding wheel shape.. The easiest way to do it in house would be on a surface grinder with a special Diamond Wheel. Hold the tool in a vice or Spin fixture and run your wheel across the tool until you hit depth.. There are several dimensions on line that will tell you the correct spec for the diameter of tool you are using.. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

Exactly. Keep the tool stationary and run your wheel across. Thanks for replying.@@iNullias
