@izzykate1806

The method that works for me is downloading the powerpoint ahead of time and then writing my notes in the ‘notes’ section underneath. That doesn’t work for everyone though, some people use google drive or word to write up from both the powerpoint & the lecturer, some take paper notes. You should have some introductory lectures in your first week where you can experiment with what works for you. I started out trying to write on paper and it didn’t work at all for me 😂

They do but don’t worry it’s usually all available online if you miss anything and don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask lecturers to repeat themselves x

the powerpoints are made available for my course in advance, which is quite standard these days. i make my notes on my laptop so half my screen is the powerpoint and half is a word document. i copy all of the text from the slide onto the document, format it how i like it, and then edit it and add things that they mention. that way i’m not wasting time typing out long bulks of info.

When I moved out of my parents' houses to live on my own I bought the total bare essentials. The nonessentials I copped super cheap from auctions, car boots etc. You can get far with 2 plates, 2 bowls, a set of cutlery, a frying pan, a saucepan, a spatula, and a sharp knife. Unless you're already big on cooking, just start with the minimum possible. When you start missing a utensil then go out and buy it because you know you'll use it. The exception to just buying things when you start to miss them might be if you're moving to London, which of course would be much more expensive. When buying a tin opener, don't get the cheapest one there, spend a couple pound extra to get one that works.

Regarding the kitchen stuff, yes you can usually share with your flatmates but if like me you quickly realise that your flatmates aren't fond of washing up and will regularly leave stuff for a week before washing it, keep some kitchen stuff in your room, otherwise you'll be having to do their washing up before you can cook. Poundland do great little baskets for bathroom stuff or cleaning stuff, or general storage, and get a fan because once the hot weather comes the shops will sell out. Be prepared for a heatwave! Also under bed storage boxes are a good idea so you can keep your spare stuff out the way :)

A doorstop was single handedly the most useful purchase I made in first year, obviously with the exception of a few the majority of halls buildings have fire doors and if you want to make friends in first year in your flat or highlight when you're door open bother me door closed do not disturb it's the golden damn ticket
@lollypopsical135
@lollypopsical135 5 жыл бұрын
I found a doorstop sooo useful as our halls had fire doors, which I assumed was the norm for all uni halls...? I used a slotted spoon utensil all the time as well as bottle opener! Also, anyone considering a kettle - wait until you know your uni rules as ours didn’t let us have kettles, mini fridges, candles or bleach, so could potentially be a waste of money! I honestly think a lot of things can wait until you move in so you know the space you have and can speak to your flat mates about sharing some things. E.g. No point getting a wardrobe storage thing if your wardrobe is tiny! All other tips are really good, especially having an Ikea laundry bag, a vase, shot glasses, reed diffuser, and greenery (fake plants are so worth it!) as loads of people won’t consider getting those things. BUT a printer was my best investment purchase - I used it through all 3 years at uni and saved me so many times as I didn’t have to trudge to the library just to print out lecture notes or an essay!

I know it’s very easy to get overexcited and buy too much before uni but it’s definitely helpful to hold off until you’re there. Once you’re there you can see who has what and what you need to contribute to the flat. I managed to go through uni without buying a single pan because our household did not need 10 pans! Kitchen essentials if you’re self catered: - baking tray (possibly 2) - saucepan (lid not really necessary) - frying pan - multiple cutlery sets (they will go missing - would recommend Poundland) - 1 sharp knife (not a full set) - chopping board - multiple mugs/glasses - 2 bowels, 2 small plates and 2 large (though not the really large plates) - colander In general don’t buy expensive stuff there’s a high chance it might get broken xx

I'm going into my second year, and it's my first year in accommodation as i commuted last year. As i am extra, i brought a load of crap, mostly to make my room cosy. Why do i need 4 display pillows and a throw? Idk but they look cute. I went crazy in the worlds biggest Primark and had a load of rubbish gifted to me. Last year, i found a printer necessary as i am studying History we get given a lot of sources to read which i found easier to print off. It was cheaper to use my own printer which is the same one that you brought and buy XL compatible ink from cartridge people. I also started using two laptops, as i like to game i used my 15 inch laptop for gaming and i used an old 11 inch laptop for uni work as i found it easier to take to lectures and carry around with me as it fitted nicely in my handbag and was not heavy at all. This is not a necessity of all, it just suited me. I prefer to write my notes on paper, but as i have a medical condition that affects my arms i cannot write as quick as i would like, so if the lecture slides were available online i would get them up on my laptop if i fell behind the lecturers pace. I also found a USB helpful as then i could use either of my laptops or a uni computer. If you have a medical condition that could affect your studies in any way, even if you don't think it will affect your studies, let your university know. I didn't think i would qualify for anything, but i get extra time in exams and for assignments, i am allowed to stop the clock and take a break in exams, and i am allowed to take my exam on a computer. Even though i do not claim it, you can also get disabled students allowance. I'd also suggest a folder for each module, and a notebook for each module isn't exactly necessary. My uni teaches 3 modules per semester so this year i am using a 10 subject notebook from paperchase for my first semester then i will see how i get along with that and reassess what i need for my second semester. Uni is about living and learning.

Check what you have already in your accommodation. I was given a plate set and we already had a kettle. With things that you only need one of, check if anyone else has brought them either before (FB) or when you get there. Kitchen things vary so much depending on what you eat (if you're vegan or veggie, you'll probs cook more as ready meals tend to be rarer and more expensive) and cooking for yourself can mean you can cook for a lot cheaper. One thing I'm so glad I got was a mini portable heater. It got really got in my room as the main heater was really old and didn't work properly and the windows were crap for insulation. I used it so much (it was also a fan if it was too warm, so would recommend that if where you're going has a reputation for getting cold. If in doubt, don't buy it beforehand but if you do find you need it, buy it somewhere cheap when you're there.

in terms of decor can really really recommend postcards as well as photos - you can have loads and they are super easy to bring with you to uni because they are so small, and they make your room really look personal to you and super cute :) my postcards were my favourite thing about my uni room. also that diffuser 100% YES, suuuuch a great thing to have in your room - my friends were always telling me my room smelled amazing!! one other thing, can recommend buying another lamp. uni rooms only tend to give you one lamp and sometimes it's not enough if your room is dark or if you want one on your desk and one by your bed. I am starting my fourth year in uni this september, and I kinda know what I should or shouldn't bring, I always watch your videos Eve! Can't miss any of them haha. Hope you'll have an amazing second year, enjoy every minute of it. Time really flies when you're enjoying yourself. Huge love from a Hungarian med student ❤️

An inflatable mattress is always a great shout! Also I would say 3 sets of bed sheets :) for the kettle check with the uni rules because some say not to have a kettle in your room because of mold.

The whole time I had to keep reminding myself that I’m not catered for and all the kitchen stuff I’ve bought makes sense 😂

My personal advice for catered accommodation is mugs, cutlery and bowl for microwave meals in case you miss a meal or need a warm snack. If you need anything else just buy it after you move in.

When I was at uni, I used all the kitchen stuff you mentioned because I was cooking for myself. Tea towels were bad, they went missing and we're so dirty all the time. You need your own and more then one is better. Bedding I agree as well as towels were better to have spare. 2nd year in September

I was so glad that when I went to uni I bought good quality items that I still use now since moving out. I am so happy I didn't bring loads, it was crazy seeing how much other people brought. You clearly learnt quickly though!

Sharing ONE tea towel between the whole flat for a whole year?! Naaaaaaah. You need a pack of 3. EACH. EDIT: Each tea towel needs washing daily 👌🏼

Hey Eve, you probably won't read this but I honestly want to give you the BIGGEST thank you. I have watched your videos since like yr9 and I've just got my GCSE results. Watching you're videos always motivated me but most importantly it showed me what you can achieve if you keep going. I can't thank you enough for your revision tips and complete honesty with your fans even when things aren't going great. Cheers Eve, thanks for being there

I'd say really just take the essentials with you to uni. If you do find that you need extra stuff get amazon prime student or go to tiger and get it. You really dont need to buy everything before you go to uni.

my shower basket was the most useful thing i bought in first year. i didn't pack one and actually bought it a week or so in when i realised i'd need one. i bought a plastic one with holes in it so i didn't have to worry about getting it wet. honestly best thing i bought in first year and i still have it 5 years later.
