Hi, I have a quick question: do you think it's safe to use pillowcases as bedding? (as in put a pillowcase over the cage pans) or is it only acceptable to use fleece?

lmao okay The reason we use fleece is because it wicks away moisture and sends it beneath to the absorbant layer (there is supposed to be one) and it keeps the top mostly dry for the chinnie. The pillow case would just stay wet where water drops or your chinnie pees for too long and it's not good for them😊

Centipede_Shrek, hey this comment is kinda old but I will still help u. Don’t get a mix because they will eat the yummy sugary stuff and not the healthy stuff. I think good pellets are the oxbow brand. You can find them on chewy.com and you can probably find it on amazon or at Petsmart/Petco.

Hi, I just got my first chinchilla ( black velvet wrap) 3 days ago. Thought it was funny because the one thing a forget and I discovered two days ago was a broom. So for the next few days instead of sweeping, a have to take the fleece out and dump the poo out every time.😂😬Just for a few days though.

Are you planning to let them be together or only separate? If you are planning to keep them separate, two separate cages are best, because they'll have more room plus they can see each other better and sometimes just seeing another chinnie is good for them, not only necessarily living together💕😊

Amity Vira They can, but it’s very hard. You can only train them to pee in a specific place, but not poop only there too. I have tried to teach Merlin before but it takes a lot of time and patience, and Merlin pees in one spot in his cage anyway so I gave up. However there might be some videos on KZbin on it. Not sure though. It’s very similar to how you could train a rabbit, so maybe look up something like that😉

panic!atthearianagrande 1. Don’t put the bath in the cage. Reserve it for only twice a week and you can give it during playtime. You can put it along with your chin storage and only take it out when needed. 2. it’s best to be in a place where sun will never directly shine on the cage. It’s okay to have soft light in the area but not too brightly during the day. 3. Daily sweep it and get rid of the old hay. Weekly change the bedding and wipe the whole cage down. 4. Every day make sure he’s got plenty of hay and pellets 5. Every other day is best. 6. For as long as he wants or least an hour 7. They go to the bathroom anywhere they want to in the cage. 8. unlimited amount 9. yes keep the cat away. Even if your chinnie doesn’t show signs of being scared they will still be stressed out. 10. Yes in the morning and evening make sure they have enough food for the day or night 11. what do you mean? Chinchillas don’t need beds. They sleep wherever they want to

Audrey Bender It’s not at all. Chinchillas have ribs like tooth picks and are very delicate creatures. They aren’t like cats and dogs and shouldn’t be put them on harnesses or leashes. It would be much too dangerous😉

Vivianadiva I refill his hay sack and pellet bowl every morning for fresh food and make sure that he always has plenty of both throughout the whole day and also before I go to bed😊

What i do is mix the food. Before i go to work i feed them (9:30 AM) I always buy 3 different types of food and mix it up. Chinchillas are picky eaters so they will pick out whatever they feel like! And i always supply hay with it. When i get home 10:15 PM icheck on them to see how much they ate. 8/10 times the bowl is empty so i will refill it together with the hay and that is my thing.

Vivianadiva well 2x a day is enough for me. When you say at night what time do you think? I always make sure they have plenty to last the entire day. They should be able to eat whenever they like. Just like we do.

Layla Beatrice Plastic is toxic for chinchillas when ingested and can tear up the intestines if swallowed. Wire is okay though wooden is recommended 😉

So I want to get a chinchilla but I don’t know any pet stores that sell them besides PetSmart but I don’t know if I can trust PetSmart with al the rumored allegations towards them. Any suggestions? I have a chinchilla that I got recently, her name is Roxy and she is losing fur on her nose. She also can be very noisy at night but I just today put fleece on her cage. Antonella Wheels are definitely necessary for them Id day. And there’s not much you can do about the noise at night since they are most active and it’s important for them to have that time to do what they want to do. Also, not sure about the nose fur. Is it a lot?

....You do know that critter nation is a VERY expensive brand right? Like I found a cage, about 5cm sorter in length, 3cm shorter width and 10cm shorter height, brand new quality much cheaper (like £100 cheaper) which is also great for chinchillas. Especially since they can do fine on a single floor, they dont NEED a huge enclosure - although it is preferable.

Maddie C Not really because fans just blow around the hot air, they don't produce fresh, cold air and so they won't really work. Plus fans create a draft which isn't very good on chinchillas🤷💕💕💕

How big does the gap between the cages need to be I'm worried that they can fit through the cage gaps cause my cage doesn't have the typical small gaps like your cage..

zoo holic Goji berries are not as high in sugar as say cranberries or raisins and can be given more often. I got that from the owner of a chinchilla rescue and breeder. She recommended those treats to me🤷💕
