One of my favorite fish, schooling behavior only second to rummy nose tetras but fare less demanding. So underrated because of the "begginer" tag . The colors really come out once they settle in. Gr8 video, Im glad you put this little beauty under the spotlight it deserves! Thanks for your great content!! ❤

One thing about the breeding (if you don't mind me adding), is they lay eggs on the underside of large leaved plants. I've seen my females hanging upside down waiting for a male to appear and then they lay them under the leaves as opposed to scattering them in a spawning mop. Just a comment and by no means a criticism. Love the chanel from across the big pond! 😊

Harlequin rasboras just might be the perfect fish in terms of maintenance imo! In my research I’ve found that a lot of “beginner” and “community” fish like danios, tetras and livebearers come with one or more caveats, like not being as hardy or peaceful as people think, but harlequins seem to be the one exception as I haven’t read even one negative comment about them anywhere I’m honestly surprised that I never kept them before but they’re definitely my top pick I plan on getting a nice big group for my 20 long, and I’ll have plenty of options for tankmates that pair well with them, like neon tetras or albino corydoras
@patpat586

I 100% agree with everything you've said. At the moment I have a heavily planted 20long. I have a school of 12 Neon Tetras and 6 of these rasboras. They've all been thriving for the last year, and there's been no bickering between the two species. I have noticed the rasboras are a bit more lively. My neon school kinda just swims around and explores together. The rasboras they all just play around together and are super active. Really awesome to look at, especially with their coloring .

Breeding? Funny story right now in my 10g, low tech with java ferns, moss, and some botanicals I add weekly. Been running the tank for two years. Just did a new stocking with 7 rasboras… few months later there are fry ALL OVER! I thought they would get eaten up but weeks later three are now at least 7-8 juveniles a month old just chilling. They eat off of the leaves and filter and I suppose what falls to the bottom. This week I did give them live brine to help them grow for the first tome(I honestly was hoping majority would get picked off by the adults ) Now it looks like another batch has bred because there are more tiny tiny babies about again! What am I gonna do with all these fish!!?? The only pet store local to me is petsmart 5/5 easiest fish to breed though! 😂

The Harlequin is Hands down my favorite schooling fish. Peaceful, beautiful, hardy, not Nano but not too big either and schools tight. Six in a small tank will catch your eye and a couple dozen in a big tank are even better. Great community fish for Beta, Angels or anything with long flowing fins as they don't fin nip or stress anyone out. Just about the perfect schooling community fish.

I have 7 harlequins with 5 cherry barbs in a 29H. They get along great and tend to stay in their own zones. I have noticed the Harlequins need to eat a bit more than the barbs and get 'hangry' if I don't give them an evening snack. They start flaring and nipping at each other. A little snack and everybody calms right down again. They are so zippy I am having a hard time to see the sexes but I think I only have a single female in the mix. Adding them to the barbs has been great as the barbs used to be so shy and would hide most of the time but the barbs have become bolder and more active since the harlequins arrived. It's exactly what I wanted from a community tank.

Hello! I was wondering why my group of 10 harlequin rasbora that has been added to my newly cycled (5 weeks) 37 gallons aquarium about one week ago began hiding in a corner of the tank. The day before, they were fine and acting normal, but suddenly, they began hiding in my plants at the bottom of the tank together. I found that weird, since my water parameters were fine when I tested them. My aquarium is around 25 C. Since they are always hiding, I have difficulty feeding them. I hoped someone could help me

I have a combo of neon tetras, lamb chop and Harlequin Rasbora's. I have 30 neons, 25 lamb chops and 32 Harlequin Rasboras. The schooling in my tank is amazing to say the least. They all are very hardy and healthy. About to get another group of Harlequins, their color is amazing. Have a black back ground, black sub straight and Greek themed decorations so they really pop in the tank. It's such a big tank I am going to keep adding these guys. Hi guys ! Here a question from France . I ve seen many times our informations are not the same in France. For exemple, I think many of you, Big fishkeeping Channels, have made a video for angelfishes. in France we think that the bare minimum tank size for angelfishes are around 120gallons when english Channels are saying around 55Gallons... Strange isbnt it?
@PrimeTimeAquatics

I suppose. 55 gallons is ok for one or a pair. When trying to keep larger groups a 6ft tank is a much better option.

I love these species profiles, they're so helpful. Only problem is I want to buy all the fish 😅 I hope you do a profile on species with tight schooling behavior. There's a ton of 'schooling' fish, but most only shoal unless fish are in huge groups of 50 or more (or around there). I think neons/cardinals are the famous good schoolers, but I'm on the hunt for silver tip tetras after your last profile
