I saw this painting a couple of weeks ago in the Mauritshuis in Den Haag and it was mesmerizing. Absolute brilliance! Right now there is a big Vermeer exhibition in the Rijksmuseum where a record amount of Vermeers from all over the world have been gathered.

Somehow, I get the sense that the viewer did something nice for this young lady perhaps gave her advice or helped her in someway. She looks back in appreciation, as she moves on. Reminds us to help others.

There's some controversy about that earring. On February 8th, of this year, The Art Newspaper website put up an article titled: The Girl with a Glass Bauble Earring? Why Vermeer's painting probably did not depict a real pearl. Also, I had no idea that the work used to be called “Girl with the Turban” and once sold for less than £1. 🙀

In Vermeer's masterpiece, a girl with a gaze, Captivates our souls, in a timeless maze. LAS unfolds the tale, in under five, Of the pearl earring girl, who keeps us alive. A study in light, in shadow and hue, Vermeer's brush captures her, so tender and true. With eyes that shimmer, like stars in the night, She beckons us closer, in silent delight. But who is she, this enigmatic muse, With lips so red, like a rose in full bloom? A maid, a model, or a vision divine, In the canvas of Vermeer, she forever shines. Her pearl earring gleams, in the soft candlelight, A symbol of beauty, in the artist's sight. But beyond its allure, lies a mystery untold, In the depths of her gaze, where stories unfold. LAS unravels the secrets, in swift detail, Of Vermeer's creation, so delicate and frail. In under five minutes, we journey through time, To the heart of the painting, where mysteries chime. So let us pause, and gaze upon her face, In Vermeer's masterpiece, a timeless grace. For in 'Girl with a Pearl Earring', we find, The beauty of art, in body and mind.

Studie showed that the background was actually a deep green and folds was discovered, so it must been a green tapestry or something or the like.

Watch 'Tim's Vermeer', the story of one man's very long quest to establish a possible technique that Vermeer may have used to paint his paintings, using the Camera Obscura and a comparator-mirror. Fascinating to see the results.

I disagree with the matter of the background. It is not really all dark and plain, or empty, If one looks carefully one can see the form of a chair at the back and down the right of the figure.

Vermeer was a faker....he could not draw, needed to use a camera obscura and other tools to create this "masterpiece". If you use the paint correctly it does not crack. His painting does.Even that Vermeer did not do correct .It should not be in a Museum. Art hanging in a Museum should be done FREEHAND. Real Eyes Realize Real Lies
