Unless it’s a real scam, most wouldn’t do it if they weren’t confident in their skill and discipline as a driver. Therefore, if it’s actually working for them, they’re gonna keep doing it. Indirectly, they’re keeping their customers because of that benefit, if that’s what you mean.

This was simply a user error, by this user telling he app he was NOT driving. Actually Drive Easy is pretty lenient compared to Drive Safe by State Farm.

Reminds me of the movie The Net where a software program was installed that tracked everything from what brand of cigarettes she used to smoke, her past, address, her car ect. This would just be adding to that list. If you make no claims and cost them nothing (as I do) but even if I did it doesnt change the fact that technically it has to fall under invasion of privacy because others are TRACKING YOUR EVERY MOVE!

It doesn't take into account other drivers or weather conditions like you brake & hit a puddle or ice it can be mistaken for you hard braking.

They got DRUNK on power when auto insurance went from 16 states being compulsory in 1992 to 49 states being compulsory in 2024!!! Compulsory auto insurance was supposed to keep rates stable,but what did it do,the 180 degree opposite!!!!

I take a lot of buses and trains because I also use public transit. I forgot to turn off the location service to my car insurance app....... I no longer use said app and switched to a normal policy. Never again.

@@Alphalogica I'm really glad that the public transit revolution is slowly but surely happening. We've done a lot of damage to the previously existing transit systems when America decided everyone had to be in a car. Unfortunately because of how our cities are built (and where I live) I have no choice but to use a car in order to get anywhere within a 10 mile radius of my home. But once I'm in the city, I park my car and use the bus/streetcar where I can.

USAAs app requires you to turn off your radio, and you can't use Apple car play or android auto. If you do it will dock you for not being safe. I got rid of it a week later. I called USAA and the lady told me that I should not be listening to music while i drive.

I understand this is currently a voluntary program. But then we hear about companies selling similar data from cars involuntarily. At some point we need a nationwide reckoning that sets clear boundaries on when and how customer data can be used. It is starting to feel like we are normalizing stalking behaviors in the name of market research. At the moment it is a tangle of complicated privacy policies and data breaches. But at some point I feel we need to tell companies to back off. They seem so entitled to data and they don’t even consistently protect what they get.

The problem is people keep voting for the same politicians who don't even address the issue of data protection/privacy. But then again, people also don't talk about it enough to warrant politicians to give any thought to the issue. I would personally love to see some sort of data protection law that is similar to that in the European Union.

except Tesla refuses to fix your rate for when there app makes a mistake. oh a car slowed for speed bump ahead of you 2 car lengths away ? Prepare for your insurance to raise next month by $50! Your turning a corner and a car is parked on the side of the road and your not behind the car but beside it? Forward Collision Warning your insurance raised by $75 !
Tesla isn't an insurance company. They can't raise your raises themeselves.

The big issue is these are cell phone based.. they should be car based. Instead of an App, there should be a OBD-II dongle that monitors the driving.

The app system is BS. I used to have a device that attached under the dash on my car. That was fine, because it only tracked car trips. It wasn't monitoring my every move. I never had to go in and correct it, because no one else drives my car. But Allstate cancelled that program and forced me to use the stupid app, putting the onus on customers to edit the app's clumsy tracking system.

"Up to" - that wishy-washy phrase is just as bad as when companies say that they are 'sorry for ANY inconvenience.' If they want me to sign up for that app, promise me AT LEAST 25% savings. As for the ANY phrasing, the MTA here in NYC is terrible with that phrasing. "We are sorry for any inconvenience as a result of the subway being 20 minutes late or the LIRR not showing up to take you to work." What do they care? Their staff is already where they need to be, we aren't.

Except l, that's what you think but the information isn't necessarily accurate. For a road with a service street sometimes it'll record the service streets speed limit for yours and it'll dock you for that. If you hit the brakes for a yellow light it'll dock you for hard braking, if you don't hit the brakes for a yellow light it'll dock you for reckless driving.

I disabled it from my car to send it to the insurance because. Am a disabled driver and I feel like the system doesn't take that into account. My acceleration is different then normal driver puts me in a disadvantage.

The app doesn't make you drive slower to just to avoid an "event" in the app.....As a matter of fact, you can go over the speed limit 9mph before it dings you for speeding.

That's CRAP! I have the same APP from Geico! You can easily go into the APP and click that you were the PASSENGER, or that you weren't driving period. The APP senses motion, and that is why he probably got dinged. Perhaps this person should learn more about the app before reporting this to TODAY. Simple fix on the users part. Point 2. The APP creates an OVERALL picture over weeks and months to adjust the discount you are receiving, SO..... one ride on a roller coaster would NOT have made any difference in his overall score, and it would have NOT made his insurance rate go up. This video is CRAP and totally inaccurate.......
