Is there a guarantee that these funds will actually plant trees and not disappear into "administrative costs", and that TeamTrees won't be taking credit for someone else's planting? Sorry, but mass donation schemes are easy to divert and hide spending, especially with those with such broad goals and there's a loooong sad history of causes hijacked to profit opportunists who tap into other's good intentions.
@erdood32354 жыл бұрын
the truly meaningful change would be to stop corporations and nations from harming the environment for profit. small time charities are only putting band-aids on the wounds, merely treating the symptoms instead of the disease. if you live in the U.S. for example, a vote for the g.o.p is a vote against the environment, against the future of the species, and if you have children, against them as well.

Your average “environmentalist” only cares about moral high ground not the actual effect on the environment. Thats how the west exported all our carbon emissions to china. Now governments in places like canada and the EU get to be seen as world leaders for “green countries” despite actually being hugely wasteful
@jonb41553 жыл бұрын
@@scoldingwhisper At least governments in places like Canada and the EU are doing something. It's not enough, not yet, but it is much better than those idiotic countries (or their leaders') that deny climate change and actively work against environmental improvements. Also, saying that the average environmentalist only cares about the moral high ground is simply wrong. It is the clarion cry of one who is too lazy or selfish to change their behaviour in order to help protect the environment.

The way the leaf stem is flattened perpendicular to the leaf and how that makes the leaves “quake” in the slightest breeze is beautiful at many levels, and the way that whole stands of aspens trunks are all part of the same giant organism is amazing.

I think this is wonderful! Last year I planted 6 apple trees. The year before that I gifted our landlord a lemon tree when we moved. This year I’m buying a conifer to plant in my aunts yard. The city just told my aunt they plan to plant new trees in the public space next to her house. If you can’t afford to donate, there are seeds in most of the fruits we eat, you can start a tree from planting a seed. One of my neighbors grows plants on his patio & transplants them into public spaces in the middle of the night. He’s a real eco-ninja. Most people don’t even notice the new plants, the city sure hasn’t, but they make a difference regardless.

Trees incorporate things that are leant against them. You can see this in many old walls, and you'll find gravestones, bikes, and even bedsteds sticking out of trees. I've often wonderedat how 'gentle'' and sensitive plants are, to be able to grow around things without pushing them out of the way. Fungi are fantastically sensitive too: you will often find mushrooms with grass growing right through the cap without deflection!

I plan to contribute, but it's with the acorns I've collected from the three tree's I cut down for firewood. So far I have a large bucket filled up with them to plant through some woods around my area. I felt bad about cutting them down & wanted to help them continue their life cycle. They were close to my utility line & were a hazard so it had to be done. Turned out two of the three were dying from the inside and would have caused some serious damage if left alone.
