What You Should Know Before Dental School PART 2

When I attended the Medical University of South Carolina’s College of Dental Medicine from 1997-2001, my tuition was 10k per year for everything included. It is now about 68k per year. And this is a state school. I can’t imagine what the private ones cost.

It is truly wild. There have been many times when I have genuinely considered whether paying this much was worth it and I pay a relatively small amount compared to what some pay in this country.

@@stephenraydentist you are where you are and you will have to stay the course. There is no other way out, unless you marry a rich girl 😉 But in all seriousness, anyone who asks me, I am honest with. The financial investment (as well as time) only makes sense if a whole bunch of stars line up. It is also advice that I have given to my own children. And as you know, all those stars will only line up for a very lucky few. The rest will have to trudge along. For some the suffering will be immense. My hope is that you are one of the lucky ones! I apologize for the dismal view. As someone who has witnessed the last 20 years, I feel that I have some insight that can only be gained with time and difficulties.

@salvatorelivreri you’re exactly right, and I can confidently say three months from graudation, I’m absolutely going to stick this thing out! But what you just said reminds me a lot of what my father (also a dentist) has told me for years. Especially these days, everyone isn’t guaranteed to make it in dentistry. I hope that my practice will treat me well but I intend to put all of myself into it in order for it to give back to me. I’m so blessed to be where I am now, and I thank God for my position in life daily.

Great video Stephen! I have a suggestion you might want to consider...make a video about dentistry vs. medicine and explain how you would help someone decide. I think that video would do well (views) and help a lot of people.

Hey steph! So it's gonna be around 74,000 dollar for next 3 years🙄😵😵my goodness.. But still I think dentist are paid well in states so I think as u said u will be able to pay it off soon...!!! But one thing whatever the money the things u are learning are exquisite, than the dentistry in rest of places... So surely u gonna have great time!! U have great dental skills..
