It is Swahili. As you can see, he don't speak it that well. There are other tribal languages in Tanzania. In Zanzibar Arabic is spoken too. There are over 100 languages spoken in Tanzania including Sukuma, Chaga, I bet most of those are endangered or very rare.

Mark, I don't know if you realize it but the history of Zanzibar is not different from your history. Most of the locals of Zanzibar are descendants of Bantu people from central and East Africa who were sold to Yemeni Arabs who used them as slaves on tea plantations and as domestic workers on the Island of Zanzibar and other Islands like Comoros in the Indian ocean. That is how the Swahili language came to existence. Swahili is a slave language based on arabic just like Jamaican Patwa based on English or Haitian Kreole based on French. So when he asked you about where your ancestors are from, it saddened me because he himself does not know where exactly on the continent, his ancestors are from either. But he knows they are from the mainland.of Africa. There are people that look like you over there but will claim Arab as their origin. So he asked you because you could as well be one of those who claim Arab ancestry. I am glad you did not claim to be a Hebrew Israelite ( jew), which is same as arabs as far as ancestry is concerned. Many of the slaves on Zanzibar were taken from as far as the Congo by a famous slave trader named Tipotip or Tibutip (I got to look it up for proper spelling) who raided other Bantu people and sold them to the arabs as chattel slaves just like in the Americas. Chattel slavery happened on the Islands off the coasts of East Africa from Kenya all the way to Madagascar, the Seychelles Island, Mauritius, Comoros, and even in Yemen and Arabia. Also off the coast of West Africa like the Island of Sao Tome Y Principe and Cap Verde Island. It kills me when I hear some black Americans thinking their experience with chattel slavery is so unique. There are millions of Africans who were forced into chattel slavery by arabs in Islands in the indian Ocean off the coasts of east Africa and in Yemen and Arabia. Millions more Africans have experienced Chattel slavery on continent of Africa in the hands of Arabs and berbers all over west and North Africa like in Mauritania where it still exist.😮

Most Tanzanians are not descendants of the East African slave trade. And similar to other diaspora they know whether or not their ancestors were enslaved. Their names and lack of details in their lineage are key factors. The East African slave trade is far more intricate and massive compared to the Transatlantic operation. Bantu languages including Swahili existed well before slavery. Languages are living and breathing methods of communication so to say that trade and interactions with foreigners of all types didn’t influence the language would be ignorant. People create and adapt language to suit their needs. But to call Swahili a slave language? To even call AAVE a slave language or any other creole for that matter is inaccurate and irresponsible. One more thing…Africans were often spared enslavement if they would denounce their faith and become Muslim. My understanding is this was strategically done and many chose this route to save their women and children. So many Muslims, even on the island of Zanzibar were not enslaved. To this day it is difficult to find present day African Muslims who are willing to publicly denounce what was done in the East African slave trade because of their loyalty and the tenets of Islam.
