Last year when my wifi was shut off at night I took to using my cell phone to watch KZbin and found interest in marine aquaria. Then this year I pulled the trigger and got myself a 20gal red sea nano and a fluval 13gal for qt. Been watching a bunch of brs beginner guide and such and finally after using the reef mature program from red sea in the cube I stocked it with two clownfish a cleaner shrimp three trochus and a conch. Its awesome can't wait to put corals and more fish inside thanks for all the knowledge you've shared to allow me to have confidence in getting my hands wet

Im experiencing the same problems as you but I live in a hot climate here in Aus so cooling has been my issue atm.. Lost a hammer to bail out the other day and other lps not happy.. struggling to keep up alk as coralline sucking the life out of it.. slowly getting back on track but geez they weren't lying when they say nanos swing quick 😅 Anyways absolutely love nano tank builds so keep us posted for this new subscriber 👍

Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment Mick. I struggle with heat all summer as well. I usually end up attaching a clip on fan to the top of the tank and that does the job. I keep my home at 78 in the summer, how about you? And yes, nano's swing quickly. I've been doing this for a decade now, and I've been testing my tank 2-3 times each week, even after several months. I just know one little thing can go wrong and I need to catch it early. Testing frequently has really helped me dial in my nitrate and phosphate levels, adjust my weekly water change, and help with GFO needs. I'm currently using 1 tsp each week mixed with a tbsp of carbon. Kalkwasser has been a game changer on this tank, but again, I'm testing frequently so making adjustments to my ato reservoir every few weeks. I think I'm currently at 2 tsp per 5 gallon bucket, but it seems to change. Thanks again for watching and commenting! -Matthew

@@HelloReef currently our summer has produced days of up to 40°c, I am inland so gets alot hotter than the coast, my houses main source of cooling is evaporative, so on those really bad days, 28-29°c is the best I can do but using the jabeo fan has kept temps under 25.5°c lately 👍 we are tailing summer now heading for winter thank god haha time for a chiller next year I think.. Winter can actually reach -3°c where I live aswell but thankfully it's easier to heat a tank than cool it haha Iv started dosing alk, cal, and mag and so far have been managing to keep parameters within range, testing alk every other day and others once a week, also instead of doing 50% water changes fortnightly I'm going to try 25% weeklys to prevent any shocking or major swings.. Also have a Hannah checker on order which will hopefully prevent me getting to lazy with the testing Thanks for the reply

After several years of success with heavily planted and stocked community freshwater aquariums (65 gallon), I am considering trying salt water. I am seriously considering the Hello Reef kit. It seems so simple and straightforward. But after watching your video I am having second thoughts. You presented so many issues that have created problems for you, an ultra experienced reefer, I can't imagine having success being the 77 year-old novice that I am. Can you offer any encouragement?
@HelloReef8 ай бұрын
Of course, I am here to encourage. Let me take of my salesman hat, and just go hobbyist to new hobbyist. Can this hobby be frustrating? Absolutely. Will you be successful? I don't know. But have I taught thousands of people to build their first saltwater tank? Yes. I think it's going to depend on your mindset going in to it. If you are open to learning new things and open to the fact that starting out any new hobby comes with challenges, then I believe you will succeed. But, if you are hoping for something that won't take some of your time and brain space, then stay away. But, that being said... You are already a freshwater hobbyist. You have the skills necessary. Are there things that are different on the salty side? Of course, but you have dealt with similar issues as a freshwater enthusiast. The HelloReef kit has 50 step by step videos that come from my decade of making beginner videos here on KZbin. And on top of that, the whole HelloReef team is here to answer questions, so much so that we check on the weekends to make sure everybody is getting along well. My recommendation is to trust your gut, and if you are up for a new challenge, then go for it. Alright, sales hat back on... It really is a great kit and I think you'll love it! :-) -Matthew

Oh no, that’s super annoying! I’ve had good luck with mine. You could always try the Bayite controller. Similar price point, just not the silicone probes. But you can always pick up a silicone probe if you want and just attach it to your Bayite.
@Nisha_PD10 ай бұрын
I 100% agree with this. I bought one for my 60g and the temperature probe went haywire at 7 months. They sent me a replacement probe but I have a different temperature controller for my 20g because I don't want to run into this issue again.
@CoralReefkid10 ай бұрын
@@Nisha_PD if your temperature went haywire either you set it up to have only one heater on it or you didn’t program it from the start. Other factors like the temperature In your home and an improperly placed probe could also be the culprit. Mine has operated since 2015 without missing a beat.
@Nisha_PD10 ай бұрын
@@CoralReefkid thanx for the comment but no. i had 2 heaters connected and the probe was placed on the opposite end from the heaters. The temperature probe was bad, and this was verified by inkbird. It kept reading extremely high temperatures even with the probe out of the water or sitting a glass of ice-cold water. The temperature it was reading was 120-150+. I left it unplugged for days and it was still reading high and climbing. With the probe replaced it works just fine if not better, I'm just not dealing with that again. The controller worked perfectly fine up until that point.
