I live by what the great Socrates taught us: there's nothing more important in life than getting to know yourself. You're the only person you have to interact with at any moment until you keep living!

To quote Nikola Tesla (genius!) ‘if you only knew the power of 3, 6 & 9 you would have the secrets of the universe’. divide the day into 3: 8 hours work, 8 hours ‘me’ time, 8 hours sleep = 24 hours! American ‘productivity’ theory is all about work harder/longer, when the secret to ‘productivity’ is actually efficiency. If you are new to a role you could do ‘X’ to ‘A’ standard in 6 hours, do the job for 4 years and you can do ‘X’ to ‘A’ standard in 3 hours (double productivity due to experience). Efficiency is the key to productivity not hours/slog. When you get good at doing something in less time, use the saved time to look at other efficiency gains or self train yourself. It’s not about working harder, it’s about working smarter 👍

Pandemic taught me how far I can go, as the sole bread winner, by being flexible enough to make personal sacrifices. My better half doesn’t take anything for granted through this experience and has once again found the means to financially contribute for our expenses.

Pandemic has been a very tough moment, isn't it ? But it teached me a lot ! I realised how important is self-knowledge ... spend time with yourself and understand your emotions and thoughts, although very hard sometimes ...). Great video and wish all the best to everyone reading this ! Soon we all will be enjoying normal life again (but this time more wisely :) )

@Silver Eight I'm not familiar with this trend or social phenomenon. I spent the summer in Italy where complaining about anything and everything is national sport, so nobody was really shamed for expressing their unhappiness with the pandemic situation, it was just assumed as obvious. Nonetheless using the words "shame" and "harassment" connected to the feeling of happiness seems quite inappropriate to me. Happiness is something that comes from within and has little to do with what other people want from us. Maybe a more proper word could be dissatisfaction rather than unhappiness? (I ask cause I'm not native speaker) Should I be happy about loss of basic freedoms? "Should" implies an ethical approach to the matter? So it would be despicable if I was satisfied about the loss of basic freedoms? I think we should discuss further what you consider "loss of basic freedoms". For one person being forced to get a vaccine signifies the loss of the basic freedom of not get an injection, but for another person it might mean losing the freedom of being in a bus or at a concert and feeling safe from the infection of a potentially dangerous disease. So which loss of basic freedom were you talking about?
@WhatashameMaryJane3 жыл бұрын
@Silver Eight "If you're vaccinated you're safe from the virus." No you're not. 100% no, you're not. Everything else stems from this assumption, which is scientifically wrong, so I don't need to add more.
@WhatashameMaryJane3 жыл бұрын
@Silver Eight "It's everywhere and there are numerous videos, blogs and articles about it." If by "everywhere" you mean in your specifica country, might be. There are about 200 countries in this world and in my country I've never heard about it.
@WhatashameMaryJane3 жыл бұрын
@Silver Eight Because, even if it doesn’t guarantee to be safe from the virus, it lowers down the possibility of infection by 95%, which, for a whole society, means stopping the spread of the epidemic and stopping the development of variants of the virus.

It is interesting to me that at least in the United States, where I live and know a bit more about, many people are not returning to jobs they had pre pandemic. They had time away and now they don’t want to return to jobs they really did not like to begin with. We have extreme shortages of employees in food service, hospitality, healthcare, bus drivers, truck drivers, cab drivers, longshoremen, and warehouse order fulfillment positions. The one side of the argument is that government provided rent increase relief, $600-1,200 stimulus check payments and extended paid unemployment. This really ticks off many who see it as being far overreaching government involvement in citizens lives, citizens whom should be out working for a living and not relying on the taxpayer and government to fund their laziness. I really do not know that Americans can ever accept this notion that you don’t have to work impossible hours and always go the extra step to get more money and productivity. It is, at least in my generation and I am much older than Mary Jane, almost engrained in our actual consciousness from a young age, either you are a hard worker and producer or you are a lazy welfare bum. Mary Jane is much more than a very beautiful woman of model like looks, she is very well educated and highly intelligent. That is why I find this video very useful. She discovered that more hours are not always more productive. In fact productivity decreases after we become too tired to keep up the pace any longer. It is not an easy lesson to learn and perhaps more importantly, you may be punished by your employer, friends, coworkers, family and society if you try to limit yourself to your best productivity time. Where I worked much of my lifetime you would get labeled “ low energy”, a career kiss of death. Very unfortunate I believe but I was guilty of these value judgments myself at times.

I appreciate you admitting to have misjudged in the past. That's important to be able to have comprehension for those who still do, I believe. I just want to add that me discovering these simple concepts is not comparable to an American person doing the same. I was born and grew up surrounded by a very different environment and my discovery of the hustling culture is something that only happened in my 20s, after my early development as a person had finished. I can only imagine what it would mean to grow up as a kid and teenager in a society that teaches you that the more productive you are, the more valuable you are as a person, and viceversa. That's a hard mindset to get rid of.

Hi Mary Jane, At beginning of the pandemic, That gave me plenty of time to watch your videos. I actually worked all the way through the pandemic. I'm a professional musician, You already know that Mary Jane. I went out on the streets and played music for people to help people get their mind off the virus. The extra time that came from the pandemic gave me time to get on Spotify and a few other music platforms. At the beginning of the pandemic Phoenix, AZ was in what they called "Shelter and Stay". Phoenix Arizona never had a full lockdown like New York. Since Rachelle and I couldn't go anywhere other than to the store. Rachelle and I had a whole lot more time to hangout together, Which we enjoyed. Things may look better. However, The pandemic is not over yet. I'm still wearing my mask and trying to stay safe. One of my friends had Covid-19 about 4 weeks ago and she's just now gotten better. She got her statement from Walgreens after taking her Covid-19 test. The test is saying that she is negative now, No more Covid -19. This means we're not out of the woods yet. I think we still have a long way to go in dealing with Covid-19. Rachelle and I will Pray for your safety. Peace be with you Mary Jane. ✝️🙏

Time is very precious to me, as I get older and time runs away, and as people pass by (and pass away) I really don't like to waste time, however all the stress over being productive I think is a little misguided as I believe if someone has a goal and is working on or towards something they really care about they will naturally make things happen and perhaps become a little more efficient along the way. The focus on speed and efficiency and high-resolution time management in general, in order to produce, is perhaps a backwards way of looking at things. To be more productive it is better to sleep and dream and really connect with your goals first! “He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” - Friedrich Nietzsche

I definitely am inclined to agree that those who sleep 8 hours a day will live longer than people like me, who only sleep 4 hours a night, for three nights a week, and 5 hours a night three times a week. And maybe one night a week I will get 6 hours. But that's rare, if anything I usually sleep 6 hours one or two nights every month. But I don't really ever feel tired. I don't drink coffee either. I just worry it's not good for my cells. ...great video Mary Jane.

I hope the Pandemic taught something about the privilege. Living our normal during the lockdowns and our "new normal" now, is a privilege itself. Don't wanna be bothering or paternalistic, but I think that's an important point to discuss.

A quick word about sleep, Mary Jane all that stuff you were saying about sleep, 8 hours and all that. When you hit your 50s it's a whole new ball game. Your sleep patterns get really weird. Ask your parents if you think I'm joking. I'm 55 now and let me tell you, it's a strange ride as far as sleep goes. 😴💤

One day not long ago I confessed to my father that I was feeling guilty for not being productive enough. He scolded me telling me that I should reserve guilt only to actions that damage or hurt other people. I keep reflecting about it. I think he's right. That day I stopped feeling guilty for not working enough or sleeping too long.
