I just bought a 2023 Toyota Corolla LE hybrid several weeks ago (June of 2023). On the first tank of gas I babied it for break in and got over 60 mpg. 😅. My last five years I had been driving the Toyota Avalon. For my first 600 miles I have been very impressed with this car. The seating is very comfortable and it handles much better than I expected. I bought the Corolla for its efficiency and reliability and I’m a happy owner.

The review seemed extremely biased against the corolla. It was as if the reviewer went into this review with the mind already set that the Corolla is a 'AWFUL CAR, BUT..MAYBE NOT TOO BAD". You expect car reviews to be completely unbiased and impartial. This didn't feel like that at all. Even the positives mentioned in the video didn't feel like positives by the way that they were presented.

5th year Mk IV Prius driver here and ex turbo diesel fan…..yeah don’t hate me …..not as pokey or quite as good mpg on motorways as my Civic Tdi but the Toyota is better in every other respect, cheap to run, easy and relaxing to drive, comfortable, totally reliable. Never understood why motoring “journalists” focus on 0-60 …in the real world of traffic and speed cameras away from a test track, it’s irrelevant ….30-50 more important. In reality the electric poke provides plenty of low down torque. ALL ecvt’s have some drone so I wish they’d stop going on about it. It’s only there on really hard acceleration or steep hills. If you own one you forget about it in a few days of driving it. Anyway I ordered one blind to prevent getting caned on company car diesel BIK and it turned out to be a great move. First auto in 30 years of driving ….I’m a convert.

The charging cost for the MG4 listed rather assumes that you’d charge at daytime rates, which you’d only do if you need to recharge in a hurry. Mostly you’d use off-peak rates like Octopus Go, which would cost you 7.5p per kwh after midnight (0030 to 0430). That’s around 2p per mile. The point about public charging is spot on though, so a hybrid makes sense if you don’t have your own charger. Maintenance costs are an issue too though, as there is a lot more to go wrong in a hybrid.

Exactly Dave..... Although once your Octopus 7.5p EV tariff ends Dave, the cost will rise to 12p per kwh. Still way cheaper than buying petrol though...... And the cost of public charging can be reduced by subscribing to the charge network you want to use. My local charge network (so far only in North Lancashire and South Cumbria) charges around 45p per kwh if you subscribe. And that's after you've used your monthly allocation of 30 to 40-odd kwh of charge which is part of your subscription.

In Finland diesel car owners pay a higher road tax, which is meant to equalize their running costs with petrol cars. Back in the day diesel was cheaper than petrol, and diesel cars consume less fuel, so the tax made it uneconomical to own a diesel if one drove less than 25,000-30,000km per year. I believe many other countries have a similar system. In this case the Corolla makes sense, because its fuel economy is very close to diesels, but the owner only needs to pay a standard road tax.

My 2019 C4 cactus 120 1.5 diesel auto gets 60mpg combined easily, and 70mpg doing 110kph in sixth on the motorway. I don't see this Corolla's economy as anything noteworthy when you consider the weight and complexity. @@matthewnightingale4675The EV revolution is a fast, we have 7 years to go before petrol and diesel cars can’t be manufactured anymore. In the U.K. we have a woefully inadequate electric grid as if you remember in January 2023 the government were warning about possible power cuts and the placed two coal fire power stations on stand-by to furnish the grid. Can’t anyone see in 7 years and beyond if everyone starts buying electric vehicles only the U.K. power grid will not be able to cope with the increased power consumption with all the electric vehicles being charged between the hours of 7pm through until 7am even though at this time most people will be in bed but most kitchen appliances will be active and in the winter the boilers will also be on line consuming power. Even if the Government decided to put trillions of £ to build nuclear power stations we are talking over at leat a 15 year league time before the are built and on line for the grid. So when all your street has electric cars in it be prepared for power cuts.
