SUGA is an emotional writer, and it flows through through every word. S.J.J'S voices convey exactly how they have felt. From time to time. This song gives hope to those going through dark times. To know it's okay to feel lost, and you're not a lone even if it feels like it. Keep walking and someone will grab your hand and hold on tight. Suga is my most favorite song writer.

The "dream" lines in the chorus are so powerful. It's basically a prayer to his dream of making it when he was starting out as an underground rapper/trainee. That's why "first love" kept getting repeated too. It's to remind himself to keep going and to honor his first love, which will forever be music.

This song is an absolute treasure, both versions are amazing and give a different vibe. I do like this version a bit more tho because it's a bit more softer and JK and Jin really compliment it. Five years ago I stumbled upon this song and it got me into BTS. I had such a hard time facing my depression and anxiety along with school life and the high expectations set upon by my parents but really BTS gave me the safe place and comfort I needed. Yoongi also mentioned it again on his Agust D mixtape note (posted on BTS' fancafe in 2016). I love all the boys for various reasons, but I am a Yoongi stan through and through. When I first started listening to their music, I had no intention of developing a bias; they all bring something unique to the table and they’re all incredibly talented. However, I kept finding myself being drawn to him, even before I confidently knew who was who. Initially it was his personality; I’m a sucker for sarcasm and deadpan deliveries. He has never failed to bring a smile to my face. But then…then I started listening to his solo works and I was smitten. For one, as a long-time sufferer of bipolar disorder, chronic pain (weirdly enough, due to a labral tear in my shoulder that ultimately required surgery to repair), and addiction (March 7th I actually celebrated 2 years clean!), his lyrics have always felt so personal to me. It often felt like maybe he had read my journal and was putting all of my fears and insecurities on display. Secondly, it was comforting to know that someone else out there felt the way I felt; his ability to articulate some of those things that I couldn’t ever find words for was just astounding. And so he quickly became my bias because I felt like I had found a kindred spirit.

He's been where some of us have been or are at (in contemplating taking our lives and disappearing from this plane - he actually did so and survived - hence the phrase "...because I can't die...") I cried the first time I heard this song, knowing it’s about Yoongi’s struggles with family and friends not supporting his first love (music) and his dream to be a musician. On top of his heavy drinking to numb the pain of his shoulder injury that he couldn’t afford treatment for… I love the original Suran version but this version hits so different, Jin and JK add a deeper more personal aspect to the song and it’s meaning.

So Far Away was released in Summer 2016, whereas the album Wings saw the light later in the Fall (October? 2016). In here (the original Suran version doesn't say "first love"), the guys make a call out to Suga's solo song "First Love", maybe stating that that dream, for him, is music/the piano/the one thing that keeps and kept him going. ^^

That´s my soul´s song🙂 I still remember that day I happened to press play on my Spotify and heard it for the very first time. I was coming back home from shopping, it was a mild spring weather, I had bags full of groceries and I was waiting for my tram to arrive .. the moment I heard it I froze and couldn´t stop shivers down my spine ( it was Suran´s version btw which to this day I prefer :-) I frantically started to search lyrics and when I read them and listened once again sitting on my tram I started to cry and couldn´t stop. People around me must have thought I was crazy, lol. That song, that musical powerful composition, its impactful lyrics and voices of Suga full of emotions and Suran´s just impacted like no other piece of music has ever done before or after ever since. That was the day Yoongi has become my ultimately ultimate bias in BTS and that was also the day my journey of discovery to learn more about him started. I have never looked back ever since. My respect and love for him has grown exponentially ever since and So far away is a song I always listen to when I feel desperate, broken and destroyed by life. It gives me good cry, but also encouragement and hope that I will be ok. His "Dream.... " verses he is reciting in a language style that Korean Bible is written in or Buddhist monks are using in their prayers is beyond powerful and almost transformative for me. Just imagine his intent with the song and how he has written it - an affirmative prayer/mantra for all suffering souls of this world to give them comfort and encouragement. The GOAT.

This version is more polished but the original has a raw element that can’t be reproduced. I definitely prefer the original with Suran (and the more prominent guitar) but I understand why a lot of people like this version since it features two more of the boys. As usual, I love how you broke down the lyrics. It’s written to be so meditative, like that breath right before the sun comes up again. When you’re in a place so dark that the only thing you can do to find hope is personify your dream of the future and talk to it.

Yeah same I love this version especially because of the boys but the rawness of the first one is unmatched. Also it has much more of a yoongi vibe to it because of his iconic production trademark electric guitars. If suga was an instrument he would be an electric guitar cause he embodies that vibe and because of that I prefer the original one over the piano version atleast production wise.
