I'm not comparing because the film led me to the book, but if you haven't, read it! Both are outstanding!!! Avoid the abridged audiobook for obvious reasons, but even there, both readers are excellent. One format helps the other for Shutter Island every time!

I hear you. Dennis Lahane wrote about these "missed" things in the book. Whilst reading, I didn't get what they meant, until the end. That's a great writer !! Yeah, audio books are fine, but an actual hardcover book is best. I'd like to see "The Given Day" made into a movie.

My theory is strongly backed by the storm scenes. His dreams and hallucinations were simply a conglomeration of events that are happening now and in the past. The scenes with the storms and the scene where he finds the real Rachel in the cave were real I believe. I don’t think it’s possible that the storm itself was a hallucination because everyone was talking about it even when he wasn’t around. Yet at the end, the doctor tells him even the storm itself was a part of his hallucinations. Also look at Ben Kingsleys face throughout the movie. He’s okey doking him the whole time! Crazy island people all in on it!!!

@bswearer8 ай бұрын
The biggest clue is actually at the very beginning... the bandage on Teddy's forehand right above his left eye. When the bandage is shown removed later on, you can see scaring from a wound. Why caused it? A lobotomy. That's because Teddy had ALREADY been lobotomized to prepare him to be reset by the "doctors" through the usage of drugs and gaslighting. Teddy was real. Everything Teddy experienced happened. Teddy's investigation into the MKUltra style military/intelligence experiments was what was really happening. But they had tried to gaslight him into believing he was Andrew and that the reality was just a delusion. At the end, "Chuck" (wasn't actually a marshal, but part of the operation, hence not knowing how to remove the holster) was signaling to the doctors that the lobotomy + drugs + gaslighting efforts failed...

Ya know.... I think a lot of point and click adventure games puzzles and their clues end up functioning more like the twists in movies that you can see how they were foreshadowed on as second viewing.... But on the first viewing weren't blatant enough to completely give it away beforehand... Like that was my experience with grim fandango.... First time though the puzzles seemed like they were all moon logic... Second time through I caught most of the puzzle clues that should have helped solve the puzzles.
