Some years ago, my brother pointed out to me the marching band music at the end of Phantom menace was a variation of Palpatine's theme. John Williams does a similar thing with Jabba's theme at the Boonta eve race: instead of a quiet, creepy version in ROTJ, its regal sounding, harkening the sound track to so many older movies that delt with the Roman empire.

I always wondered what the point of Storm Troopers wearing armor was. It didn't protect them from blaster fire. It didn't even protect them from rocks on Endor. So why bother wearing a clunky, vision-impairing suit of armor if it doesn't protect you from anything?

Just a hypothesis, but maybe the "armor" gives the appearance of armor that clothes would not, thus being more intimidating to their foes. The armor could be purely for its imposing appearance.

It does protect them from blaster fire. You're assuming that getting knocked down equals getting killed. It's like a bullet-proof vest. It stops the projectile from going into or through your body, but it can't necessarily protect you from the impact of super-heated plasma hitting you at high speed just like Kevlar doesn't prevent you from feeling the impact of a bullet. Getting shot in armor means that a guaranteed death becomes possibly just a mild injury.

Storm Troopers were originally planned to be more like the Death Troopers that showed up in Rogue One. I used to have a set of Ralph McQuarrie’s original concept art and it featured some images that didn’t make it onto film for the first trilogy. As far Vader’s age, it wouldn’t have made sense for him to be 70 when he died, Luke and Leia were still in their mid-20’s at the time, so he would likely have been in his 50’s. Obviously, the prequels confirmed his age at the time of their birth, so it gave a more exact age for him in ROTJ.

I think, though, that Vader's aged appearance makes sense when you consider how badly Kenobi injured him, and that his armor was essentially under Palpatine's control for 20+ years.

The ages of Vader and Obi-Wan in the OT were retcons, badly done retcons. When the OT was originally made they were more the ages that they appeared on screen. But Lucas retconned their ages into being at least 10 years younger because he wanted a baby Anakin in TPM.

@@germanwolf9212 Yes, the way they talk in ANH, it makes it sound as if the Jedi are ancient history rather than merely 19 years before. Even Solo, who's in his early 30's, was totally sceptical about them, like he was talking about King Arthur or something. There's also Obi-Wan's line about them being the guardians of the galaxy for a thousand generations, whereas in the PT, Lucas changed it to a thousand years. It makes me wonder if Lucas reviews what he previously wrote in his own movies.

I thought it odd that Palpatine's first name is Sheev, since he told Padmé it was Frank: "I must be Frank!" Sebastian Shaw was actually older than Alec Guinness, like Margot Kidder was older than Christopher Reeve in Superman, but the older actors are still just playing younger characters and the younger actors are playing older characters Maybe Rey is a Kenobi, her father was Palpatine's "son," but we know Jack about her mum. Regarding your question at 1:39, when did Stormtroopers learn to hit their targets, the answer is during training, same as any other soldier. Remember Obi-Wan remarking that "Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise". Stormtroopers are only lousy shots when they've been ordered to miss, in order to allow the rebels to escape so that they could be tracked back to their base. I hope this clears things up for you. 8)

My headcanon is that the storm troopers on the Death Star were the top notch best of the best and as you rightly point out were ordered to miss on several occasions. After the Death Star was destroyed _(Never Forget!)_ the Empire had to quickly recruit or draft new troopers to refill their ranks, who were sent out to the field with a bare minimum of training.

Obi-Wan, who knew Luke's father, told Luke that his father was dead. When they retconned this, nobody batted an eye. Rey is told she is a nobody by Kylo Ren, who did not know her parents and had literally no way of knowing anything about her.
