Must be one of the best theme tunes for a TV program, that I’ve ever heard, also sums up the typical life of men

It's just a great song. Almost too good for a theme tune

Very rare you find a video with not one thumbs down. Happier times, a great programme and one of the best theme tunes ever which becomes more poignant each year older I get.

I am grateful for this wistful and haunting theme upload as they only played the chorus (sounds like a football chant) on the BBC transmission in the seventies. The whole song, like the series, has the fear of failure, transition and change that haunts me more nowadays than the eleven-year-old that first listened to it. What became of the people we used to be?

Great song that brings back memories as a child watching this . Our family moved from the north east to Yorkshire in 1970 when I was 6 , but this was compulsive viewing in our house as it reminded my parents of where they had come from . The lyrics are so sentimental and nostalgic , thank you for uploading this .

Turned up late to this conversation as usual. I'm not Geordie lived in the West Midlands all my life as a kid, same age as them scrotes climbing out of the window of a facade of terraced houses, whole streets was knocked down leaving only the fronts, I think it had something to do with councils saving money by not wrecking the entire streets. Hundreds of streets in our neck of the woods was demolished leaving only the facades, the residents were moved to high rises and working class communities broken up. I just remember playing in streets like that doing exactly what them kids was doing with just a pile of rubble the other side. But the derelict factories were the best.

Sad Rodney Bewes died. A classic series in nineteen seventies. Playing the hen pecked upwardly mobile Bob in the Likely Lads in 60's and Whatever Happened to... In our thoughts & Prayers. Mike Hugg involved in theme songwriting was in Manfred Mann.

Oh what happened to you, Whatever happened to me, What became of the people we used to be, Tomorrow’s almost over today went by so fast, It’s the only thing to look forward to the past. There was a time when time didn’t matter only the time of day and living was living in hope which would never pass away. Well it was a Monday morning, when weekend was done. Fear was the fear of being what we had become. Oh what happened to you Whatever happened to me What became of the people we used to be Tomorrow’s almost over today went by so fast It’s the only thing to look forward to the past You say I’m a fool in a fools paradise let my life slip away. Waiting with my head in the clouds lookin for a sunny day. Never go back you tell me it’s the worst thing you can do But I must go there till I find out where it is I’m going to Oh what happened to you Whatever happened to me What became of the people we used to be Tomorrow’s almost over, today went by so fast It’s the only thing to look forward to the past
