Context at 6:33: "No update on the outcome, the driver may have had a medical episode and blacked out last second as you can see them hitting the brakes before I approach the truck. A second truck arrived shortly after I had called the police and went back to check up on the driver. The driver was able to park the truck after the entry ramp of the same exit in the emergency lane. I then drove off knowing the police was only a minute or so away and the driver already had help." Thanks for watching and drive safe. Submit your dash cam footage or pictures: whtdashcam@gmail.com

Due to the lifestyle companies force their drivers into, drivers live at a high risk for heart attacks and with the amount of time they spend on the road it is likely to happen while they're driving.

This happened to my father this year. He is a truck driver, 55 years old. He's been driving his whole life and experienced many accidents caused by weather conditions, idiots and drunks. Thanks to his experience on the wheel and fast reflexes he has managed to save his own life and the life of others many times. But this year he went off the road exactly like this because he blacked out due to a sudden high fever. He woke up in the ambulance. If you see this happening on the road don't be quick to rage. Instead park safely and approach the truck. They are a high risk job. Stay safe and save others.

In the smallest way possible, fair enough, those barriers were down for far too long without anything actually coming, but for crying out loud people it's a railway crossing! If you end up stuck there I can guarantee your car isn't going to win against a damn train!
@RichardFStripeRendezvous
@RichardFStripeRendezvous 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, they must be locals who "know" there isn't a train, and this must happen frequently. But even then, there is never a guarantee that things will go how you think they'll go. It could've been the one time there was an actual train. It's never worth risking your life for.

At 10:17 the cammer says she can hear the train but no train comes. I'm wondering whether she is hearing a train which has already gone past before she got there and the barriers are malfunctioning by staying down so long. That might explain why some cars actually turned around and headed back the way they came. They decided the barriers were broken and sensibly went to look for a different route rather than cross the tracks. Either way, the cars that did cross are still idiots for chancing it.

It's the guys fault for sitting in the middle of an intersection. If you don't have enough room you shouldn't go through the light. Defensive driving in either case could have fixed it though. The SUV in the middle of the intersection could have moved up beside the slow moving van or the car coming up to the intersection could have slowed down much earlier. The camera focuses on the water droplets on the windshield, because the lens is probably four inches away from the windshield and we all know autofocus on cameras doesn’t exactly work perfectly. Your eyes can look past the droplets on the windshield and focus on the road ahead of the car. The road was probably perfectly visible, but the camera focusing on the wrong thing would lead you to believe otherwise.

5:32 Bet that dude yelled at the driver at the next stop "I had my blinker on!!!" Not only did they not have their blinker on, but your blinker is not a "right-of-way button". you don't just get to change lanes if your indicator is on, it's not how it works. Its to...INDICATE, that you wish to change lanes, so other drivers don't have to guess whether you're going to move your damn car.

nah, if you're not on mental autopilot while driving you can look through that no problem. Even with wipers this dude woulda hit the SUV, he wasn't paying attention, but the light was green, so he gets to *act* justified at the scene even if he wasn't. We can't see through the rain because the rain is sitting right in front of the camera. Human autofocus is way better than whatever static lens is in these dashcams.

I am convinced some of these are caused by drivers watching movies like Fast & Furious or others where there are high speed car chases and think they can maneuver at high-speed also. An example is at 6:19 where he shot around the car and then tried to make that left turn at high speed and crashed into the tree. @gnarthdarkanen7464
@gnarthdarkanen7464 2 жыл бұрын
This may surprise you but ONE little electronic fault can cause the engine to "conk out" on you, and it's not like things wear out on a specific schedule to be "conveniently close to home" when they go... SO there's about 10,000 little ways and reasons someone can be STOPPING just about anywhere at just about any time, regardless of the posted limit on the road. It's rare, but it DOES happen. AND THAT is why we pay attention to what the hell is going on around us on the road. There's too much else to worry about to bother playing with phones and touch-screens and programming or texting or fiddling with cameras and other BS when you have a steering wheel or a set of handlebars in your hands... I really REALLY wish more people could wrap their heads around that concept. ;o)

@@dandotvid I know he meant "why would anyone in their right mind just stop there?" The reality is that within the clip, there's NO CLUE what stopped that vehicle... We will likely never know if it was on purpose by the driver, or something just gave out and they couldn't possibly go any further... Instead of questioning "why" when you're at the steering wheel, MY POINT is that you should only be worried about "Here's the obstacle, and WHAT can I do about that so I don't get killed???" and then DO it. We can theorize all day and all night and all day tomorrow about what happened, how it happened, and who did it... It won't help you when you're doing the posted 80 mph and come upon someone in trouble (like 90% of the stopped vehicles on such roads) at 0 mph in the middle of the road. Two things matter. "Can you stop in time?" and "Is there clearance to just get around and escape a crash?" Those are your choices, and good luck. ;o)

1:45 All wrong. You can see traffic backing up at the intersection. The other side probably has a flashing light to go when safe. That SUV was already in the intersection and trying to get out of it. Cammer car was probably looking at their phone or something and didn't realize until the SUV was there until they were too close. Slamming on the brakes in wet conditions caused it to lock up and slide into the SUV. Could have been easily avoided if they were looking at the road to notice the two large vehicles crossing the intersection. "The light was green." RIght, doesn't mean you wait until the last second to brake.

That's what I've never understood about incidents like that, if in doubt SLOW DOWN or stop early. If a situation ever looks questionable in any way, reduce speed which lowers energy and makes for a 'safer' crash and/or increases time to react. I see so many of these where someone may not be at fault, but they also say "I had the right of way so I barreled into them, it's their fault!".

Big city European here! Drives me nuts too. Some people just have no cause or concern for other people. Some big cities here in Europe like London or Paris are terrible for that, but the US is notably very bad for having no respect for others. things like talking obnoxiously loud on transport, screaming and clapping in the cinema or airplanes etc As bad as it is to say, it’s a class issue. If you’re working class, you’re less likely to care about how you treat others. Especially in big cities. If you’re a small town person from a state like Texas (never been but my perception of Texans is that you’re all extremely well mannered, call people ‘sir’ etc), you’re probably much more compassionate for others. It takes about 2 to 15 minutes until screaming matches start when my mom is in the passenger seat. No matter if i am the one driving or my Dad. That woman has absolutely no trust in others driving skills, control freak that completely freaks out when not on the wheel, she just can't help herself but to constantly give passive aggressive comments about every little thing she would do differently if she was driving, or even straight up tell you how to do it better... and it is not like one little comment here and there, it's a waterfall that just won't stop, no matter if you engage or not, if you turn the music on she just talks louder over it. We are at the point now where she has to sit in the back seat whenever possible, somehow that seems to work 50% of the time, because her view on the street is obstructed by the front seat, she looks out the side window. You got no idea how many arguments we had in this house over this crap. She does this with everything, i had arguments with her about the orientation of the dirty knives and forks in the dishwasher, she always puts the pointy end upwards, "so it gets properly clean", i tell her pointy end goes down, so you don't accidentally pokey yourself AND because pointy end up means you end up touching the end that goes into other peoples mouth with your hands, that is bad hygiene. Also she skips the pre-wash rotation, to save water, that is why stuff doesn't get properly clean, but she can't accept a single point of any argument, she is right and that is the end of it. if we would send her to therapy she would tell the therapist how to do the job right and drive that person nuts instead. Just, when driving, it turns into an actual problem, because it is distracting as hell and makes you angry at the same time, to the point where you make dumb simple mistakes BECAUSE of her that you normally wouldn't do.
