We finally got some snow here in N. Idaho over the last three weeks, then a big cold front for us. Minus 16F for a few days. The wolves moved into my spot with the snow as the elk and deer dropped down due the snow. I picked up a 90 lb male yesterday finally. A happy day for me. Love your channel and look forward to every episode.

Another great video thanks keep up good work. You have a lot of ground to cover my line is 100 square miles and lynx numbers are good my best year is 16 good ones plus others that were lunch . You must have big beaver quotas too
@whatido3021 Жыл бұрын
That's a good Lynx season you had! Lynx numbers are very good here right now, hopefully I can reduced some of the Lynx numbers so the populations don't crash with them clearing out the current healthy rabbit populations. We don't have beaver quotas in Alberta, a little different then what I had when I was trapping in Ontario. Thanks Fern!

Always great to see you getting the lynx! Question - what would have made that "big drag mark" ?
@mainemagic4968 Жыл бұрын
Love your trapping videos. Question...Do you ever drag quarter carcass behind your quad when checking ? I never did until one day a catch was all chewed up and a real mess...tied it to my sled and did some dragging on trail for scent...I also catch Green Crabs in the summer and freeze them for the snow days setting traps. We loose shore line to them all summer so it's my payback for them being an invasive. They are a favorite for the Striper when in the river. I mix ground crab with gelatin and make some baits for my lobster traps. It slowly dissolves and the critters come for it. Cheers.
@whatido3021 Жыл бұрын
I have towed beavers behind the sleigh many times, sure adds to their curiosity! Great mixes you got going on!
@scottnock5241 Жыл бұрын
Awesome brother!!!! Curious why you don’t set foot hold drags for those wolves? Interesting setup on the snare drag poles!!
@whatido3021 Жыл бұрын
Oh leg holds are coming for them eventually, I spend most of December and part of January getting to know them before setting. We are required to check leg holds within 48 hours so I have to ensure I am able to that before setting.

Still the best man knowing to set up the line and to work the catch perfectly... Didn't the wolves driving away the coyotes or kill them or it's just too many coyotes at all ? Can you tell me in percentage the difference in the price for wolf and coyote? There is a rare book and bestseller here in Germany, now 103 years old, In Canadian wilderness from Max Otto. You're like him just doing the line and mercifully for the creation! God's Blessings from Northern Germany Ludwig.
@whatido3021 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Ludwig! Coyotes will move out of the area when the wolves are around, but there sure are lots of them, for price difference between them, it varies tremendously, right now coyotes are only worth around 30$ for a good one, but they were 130$ just a few years ago. Wolves vary as well, gray ones are not as valuable then black ones, and it all depends on demand. Hope this helps.
@ludwigderzanker9767 Жыл бұрын
@@whatido3021 It helps a lot, thanks for the answer! We were never a fur country cuz our winter is too warm . In Germany is now only living trap allowed and if you're not in time on your set up, alarmed by a app, you'll lose your hunting license . But now our fine liberal government gives some wolves free too shot after half a billion losses. See them here, in Russia and Poland but your lynxes are so beautiful! Wish you all the luck and be happy that you have a mother like your is! Ludwig

You said you own a trap line ? What does that cost ? Is that evey uear you pay for it or a 1 time fee?
@whatido3021 Жыл бұрын
In Alberta you don't technically own a trapline since it is public land, it's more like a lease where you are the only one entitled to trap that area, there is no money involved with the government, when traplines are bought, it's to purchase the assets from the previous trapper. Hope this makes sense. Thanks for watching!

Lynx were the best last year, my average was 163$ Wolves can also be good, but they vary greatly depending on color, quality and demand. Marten and Fisher prices are not doing as well.

Selling furs to an individual is pretty tricky, if you're a Canadian citizen I can do so, but it has to be tanned before I can sell it unless you are a licensed fur buyer, If you are in the US, it is very complicated and costly due to the permits required. I sure wish it was easier! Thanks!
