I'm confused. Dinosaurs already evolved into birds. It can also be argued birds also have distinct evolutionary advantages over us. They are way more diverse and as a result adaptable to change. Some are know to be quite intelligent, capable of using tools and communicating. Some of our local birds now follow delivery trucks and steal parcels and groceries. They are very food adaptable and require less resources than us. There's a good chance dinosaurs may still inherit this planet as birds.

The dinosaurs that weren't killed off by the asteroid evolved into birds. This is basically asking what if there was no asteroid. When the asteroid hit, it pretty much took out all non-avian dinosaurs. Dinos that lived near rivers/streams (such as the crocodile ancestors) survived as well, as their food source was mainly aquatic life. So basically, the birds we see today are decedents of dinosaurs that were ALREADY flying by the time the asteroid hit. This video is asking the question of how the large, purely carnivorous/herbivorous dinosaurs that were wiped out would evolve.

This is a very interesting question. And many commenters are right....a branch of them (theropods) became birds. So birds are their modern descendants. Now, just for fun....a couple of decades ago, an episode of Star Trek: Voyager explored this question (episode title: Distant Origin). In those episodes it explored the possibility of what could have happened--and what they came up with was interesting: Some branches of dinosaurs had developed 21st-century style technology (so like rockets); and they built some "generation ships" to escape the asteroid apocalypse. Those that remained on Earth were mostly wiped-out, and any trace of advanced ancient dinosaur society and tech were completely erased. 65 million years later, the mostly human crew of the USS Voyager meet extremely advanced descendants of those dinosaurs that escaped (they assumed they were a new alien species). They were now bipedal and humanoid sized, and had very very advanced tech and gigantic starships. Took them sometime to realize those "aliens" came from Earth and were descended from dinosaurs. Excellent episode!

The question this video is asking "what if the asteroid that killed 75% of dinosaurs never happened? What would evolution look like for these larger creatures that did not survive?". The extinction of these dinosaurs led primarily for the ability for mammalian life to prosper, there were already mammals on the plant during the late cretaceous period. Many of these smaller mammals survived, then thrived. The asteroid was the 5th extinction event to happen on earth. Without this event, life for a long time would of continued unchanged significantly for many years, but that wouldn't of stopped the events that followed from happening. As the atmosphere alone started to cool, the cold blooded dinosaurs would need to migrate or adapt to regulate their temperatures. Avian's would still hold the advantage for their ability to migrate quickly in rapidly changing environments, with flexible diets. Carnivorous dinosaurs would likely get smaller, as the plant life got smaller/seasonal causing herbivores to get smaller and decrease in population. By the time the time the ice age came around (of which early humans existed) the mammal population would of likely grown exponentially due to the dinosaurs inability to withstand the drastic changings or they would have adapted with features/behaviors to help them withstand the fluctuation. Such as smaller stature, thick coats/pelts, dense fat reserves, burrowing, or the ability to put themselves in a state of brumation for periods of time such as crocodiles do today. That's not including the rising and falling of water levels or the vast shift within out tectonic plates that eventually gave us the land masses we have today. Humans have adapted alongside apex predators since their evolution, within this we have found ways to utilize the life around us. We ride elephants, train hawks, domesticate numerous prey animals, and influenced the evolution of our own personal companions out of an apex predator. We will never know outside of speculation, but its not outside the possibility that humans could of farmed the descendants of brontosaurus, herding from the backs of a watered down symbiotically tamed version of a raptor species.

They did...It took a mass extinction event after millions of years of dominance to almost wipe all them so they were forced to evolve even further into birds.

Trex tiny arms shows they're better of with more muscle around the neck and breast then heaving arms it's a trade of so they would likely evolve to not having them at all.

The Raptors or most of they're family would also like many others give up they're little arms for agility

Assuming that the asteroid never hit, humans would've never become what we are today. We'd still be little mammals, running for our lives. The dinosaurs would continue to evolve. To be honest though this dinosaur video is way better than all of Bright Side's dinosaur videos combined.

The Quazle most likely wount get any bigger but actually it's more likely for all of them to be a little tinier because of the shifting our earth and atmosphere go through.

Wasn't Chicxulub the current place where the asteroid fell, rather than the name of the asteroid?

Dinosaurs were around for 200 million years. After the asteroid 66 million years ago, some still survived. If they hadn't managed to create technology or civilisation in that amount of time another 66 million years wouldn't make any difference. We wouldn't be here without the extinction event that took them out. You may as well ask the question about crocodiles and the crocodilia family. They were around before dinosaurs and still exist today. 250 million years. Things would have gone on just as they had for all that time.

I read somewhere that if dinosaurs existed in large numbers until now then there would be no large mammals. The big mammals evolved after dinosaurs died out as a result of their extinction

Damn the real question is what are humans going too evolve into especially with all the global warming that is supposely going on. Remember only the strongest will survive.

The levels of oxygen was much higher 66+ years ago. That’s why they were able to be so large. If they were alive today, they’d be much, much smaller.

if the asteroid landed in an area that wasn't Chicxulub, and it landed just 30 seconds later, it would have plunged right into the ocean, or anywhere else, the Dinosaurs would likely have survived the impact. let's just say it was a lucky hit, that the asteroid hit in the absolute worst place. What we also forget is that the Dinosaurs survived an asteroid nearly a hundred million years earlier and almost of equal size. you don't need to stop the asteroid from hitting Earth, just change the impact site, it would have changed history entirely.

I mean, nothing ever stops evolving . . . their genetics either respond to stress and changes or they don't. That being said, if they were alive, and we were somehow able to evolve to what we are now in spite of them, I'd imagine they'd be getting smaller since the air is thinner. The large sauropods would either die off or their young wouldn't grow as big (so they'd shrink to maybe 2x the size of an elephant maybe). Raptors could either replace, or be joined with, dogs as our day to day companions. The smaller dinosaurs would probably be like land parrots (like the kokopo, kiwi, or their larger cousins the ostrich or cassowary).

What is far more important than an asteroid blast itself impacting the earth to eliminate dinosaurs. It is how an asteroid impact can over time affect the earth's atmosphere and air composition which results in overall larger or smaller creatures. Higher oxygen (prior to impact) bigger animals, Lower oxygen after combustion(post impact) smaller animals. Even though we today vastly believe the asteroid caused most of it instantly, I mean yes in the end many lives, but the idea I'm offering to come across is that the impact changed the atmosphere, even if significant amount of life was instantly impacted, the more significant change was the result on creatures due to the change in the atmosphere, which likely took decades if not centuries.

I guess that they have shown are smaller things. Major impact - Mammals would not be dominant. Primates would not evolve so much. Humans wouldn't exist (Unless some other event would have done similar extinction of dinosaurs)
