This sounds like an episode of the Twilight Zone where the people lived in a small town and they were being observed by large beings, like through a microscope, they could hear the people watching them but they couldn't see them. Moreover, looking at those people who have had close encounters where the alien placed a tracking device into the person so they will know where those people are at any given time. An alien can enter their houses at any time simply by walking through the wall to check on their subject, make notes on the progress of their testing. It certainly is plausible.

Man, this video, with the topic being discussed, the galactic pictured being shown, and the accompanying music...it just awakens something in my gut, my soul. That basic, human desire that longs to ask...Where did we come from? Why are we here? And most importantly, Are we alone? I would give anything to hop into a warp drive abled spacecraft, and soar through the many galaxies in search of new worlds. The overwhelming feeling of descending into the atmosphere of an alien world, and having everything you thought was "normal" thrown out the window must be absolutely astounding. I wish to feel that one day, but the fact that there's about 0% chance I will in this lifetime is so depressing.
