the milky way and the andromeda galaxy are heading towards each other and will collide in around 4 billion years. both galaxies obviously have supermassive black holes in the middle. both of these galaxies will collide with minimal stars/planets colliding due to how spaced out they all are, what will collide is the 2 black holes and we will be left with one much larger galaxy with a much larger gravitational pull. i would assume the black holes feeding habits would increase as well.

What if we knew any of the answers to your questions? Everything is speculation until it is proven. Even now what is proven is only proven upon the knowledge we currently have. The more knowledge we obtain the more speculation we have. Unfortunately to answer all of the questions we have we would have to be as old as the cosmos itself which is also speculation again depending on the information we have.

2 small black holes, each weighing only a few million times the mass of the Earth, spinning close to the speed of light in different directions. The sheer energy released by that solar system sized collider, is a cataclysm of propotions our mind cannot comprehend. Yes, gravitational waves, but the energy is also incredible. I would not call that "boring" !

@@ziuzz4168 light (photons) is massless. Black holes and other gravitationally significant objects do not "pull light in" since gravity does not affect massless objects directly. Rather, black holes warp the spacetime light moves through, via frame dragging etc, which is how the gravitational lensing we see works. I.e., the light itself isn't affected but the path it travels through is.

@alexbowman75823 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it would take billions of years for them to merge presumably the black holes rotate extremely rapidly. As they approached closer tidal forces would slow the rotations down and pull the holes together. Once the event horizons touched then they would merge rapidly with a burst of gamma, X-Ray and visible light lighting up the cosmos and generating massive gravity waves.

3:50 How does this make sense? Two giants pulling at each other would eventually meet, right? I get that if they entered orbit with one another they might not ever collide, but why would that be any different than with the less dense black holes?
